When Cam handed Johnny the gym bag of cash, he pulled her aside.
“I had a talk with Ruth last night. She was wondering how you got out of both busts.”
Cam looked up at him. “Got out of both busts?” she exclaimed. “Oh, come on,” she hedged. “I was in the hospital for the one in prison. I was in the ladies’ room when they arrested Dave. I had to sit in wet bushes for over an hour until they left.”
“She thought it was rather lucky of you.”
“Lucky? After that perp I stole from rolled over on me? I think I deserve a little luck.”
“Ruth said you were very lucky.”
“Yes, I guess I am. I think I deserve it. I’ve had a lot of bad luck for a very long time. Here I am with a college degree in International Politics and I end up in stir because I chose the wrong guy to rip off.”
