Chapter 18

I sat anxiously in the passenger seat of Frank's car. I've decided for now to just forget about everything Eliza had said and try to focus on Frank, see if he really is what's good for me. We were on our way to Brendon’s house right now. “Don't worry, baby,” he reassured. “I told them about everything. Turns out Brendon and his boyfriend see the colors too. They never told me because they didn't want me to think they were crazy. But they see it too, they're soulmates.” I looked over at him with wide eyes. I've never met anyone who can see the colors other than my grandparents. “They do?” I asked. He smiled and nodded, reaching over to hold my hand. I couldn't help but feel a little bit uncomfortable and Frank seemed to notice. “Are you still upset about yesterday?” He asked. “You're getting married in ten days,” I stated. “To the girl that you love.” “Hey, let's not think about that right now,” Frank said. “Let's just focus on this small party.” I nodded my head and he smiled, kissing my knuckles softly. Soon enough we parked in front of an unfamiliar house. Frank knocked on the door and a man opened the door. He had brown hair that flopped down over his forehead and he wore a plain red shirt, which I could see because Frank's hand still held mine. “Frank, hey man,” the person said. My world was succumbed to greys when Frank let go of my hand to hug him. They pulled away and he smiled. “Gee, it's nice to see you fully dressed,” he remarked while I blushed. “I'm Brendon, Frank has told me about you.” He held his hand out and I shook it a bit nervously. We stepped inside and Brendon shut the door behind us. “Ryan!” Brendon called. Another boy came from the other room. This one was slimmer and taller. He wore pretty eye makeup and a floral waistcoat. “This is my boyfriend, Ryan,” Brendon said, wrapping an arm around him. Ryan smiled, waving at me. “Aren't the colors just so great?” Ryan asked. “I'm so glad I met Brendon.” Brendon smiled and gave him a kiss. “C’mon, Ray and Pete are already here,” Brendon said. We walked into another room, where we met two other people. I learned that Ray was the one with the very curly hair and Pete was the one with the plain black hair. We were sitting on the couch, all talking and hanging out. Well, they were, I wasn't. They would either talk about inside jokes between them or grown up stuff I just didn't understand. Sometimes I forget Frank is 9 years older than me. “Let me go grab some beers and order the pizza,” Brendon said. It was nearing dinner time and we've been hear for a few hours. “Grab a water for gee!” Frank called. I blushed in embarrassment of being the only one not yet old enough to legally drink. “So, you two are really a thing,” Pete said, gesturing to the way I was cuddled in Frank's lap contently. Brendon came back in, handing us our drinks. Frank told me they were happy that I found someone but they weren't the most proud of Frank. They all think cheating is bad but at the same time they can tell Frank really likes me. “Yeah, sort of,” Frank said. “What about you? How's your love life?” “Non-existent,” Pete muttered. “Nobody wants to date the asexual guy.” I choked on my water and Frank patted my back. “Baby? What's wrong?” He questioned. “I blushed in embarrassment of being the only one not yet old enough to legally drink. “So, you two are really a thing,” Pete said, gesturing to the way I was cuddled in Frank's lap contently. What's wrong?” He questioned. “My brother is asexual and he's single,” I said, blushing right after my words. “I can give you his number if you'd like.” Maybe this is some sort of sign. If they're both asexual then there could be a good chance that his soulmate is asexual too. I want Mikey to be able to see the colors so that was he an know how great it is. “How old is he?” Pete asked. “He's 16,” I said, hoping that wasn't a deal breaker. Pete bit his lip, looking a little unsure. “C’mon, how often are you going to meet a very nice, asexual boy?” I asked. I opened my phone, pulling up and showing him a picture of my brother and his eyes widened a little. “s**t, your brother’s hot,” he remarked. “Yeah, give me his number.” I smiled and told him as he nodded, promising to text him later. I smiled and leaned against Frank’s chest. Everything in Brendon and Ryan's house is so much more color coordinated, they were able to see the colors while designing it. It was a white rug with dark brown leather couches and light brown colored walls. It was very unlike Frank's house with the dark purple rug and light blue couches, but we choose to not talk about that. “I ordered a plain cheese, a pepperoni, and a barbecue chicken pizza,” Brendon said. I felt Frank kiss the side of my head, and I smiled in content. I wish everyday could be like this, wish we were a normal couple who could hang out with friends all happy and open together. “Billie Joe said he might quit,” Brendon said. Frank looked at him in shock. “Are you serious?” He asked. “Yeah, something about how he's really annoyed about what happened with Andy,” Brendon said. “Well yeah, what happened with Andy was just so stupid,” Pete said. “But is it really that bad that Billie Joe would quit?” Ryan asked. “Well, you know how he is,” Ray said. The other nodded in agreement while I sat clueless. That's what happened for most of the night until it was time for us to leave. Frank dropped me off at home, giving me a kiss before I got out of his car and walked inside. It was about twenty minutes later before I realized that I had forgotten my backpack at Frank's house because he had picked me up right from school. I sighed, knowing i'd need it for tomorrow. I got up, telling mom where I was going and got into my car, driving to Frank's house to pick it up. I pulled into his driveway and started walking to the fright door. However, I stopped when I saw the scene happening through the window. Frank spun Jamia around, holding her in his arms. The couple laughed, both their wedding rings glimmering in the light. They looked so in love as Frank leaned in for a chaste kiss that made my stomach sick. The two of them hugged, holding each other tight. They didn't just let go, they held each other for nearly five minutes. The two caught in a warm embrace of love. Frank glanced up, seeing me watching. He said something to Jamia, shutting the curtains and stepping outside. I could feel my eyes watering, a lump in my throat that I couldn't swallow. Frank tried to lay a hand on my shoulder but I took a step back. “Gee, baby, what are you doing here?” Frank asked. “I forgot my backpack,” I said. “You really love Jamia, don't you?” “I do,” Frank whispered. “Do you want to marry her?” I asked. “Gee--” “Frank,” I interrupted. “I asked if you wanted to marry her.” “Yes, I do,” Frank whispered. I nodded my head, feeling hot tears slip down my cheeks. “Okay,” I muttered. “I guess what we have is over then.” Frank shook his head, his own eyes filling with tears. “Please, I don't want us to end,” Frank begged. “You can't have us both, Frank!” I shouted. “It's not f*****g fair!” “I don't know what to do,” Frank whispered. “Marry her,” I stated. “She's nice and you love her.” “But--” “Frank, you want to marry her so just do it, pretend I don't even exist and go back to your life before I ruined it,” I said. I turned and walked away, getting into my car and driving home quickly. I couldn't stop the tears as I stormed into the house and into my bedroom. I threw myself into my bed and hugged Flo to my chest as I sobbed. My whole body was shaking as I cried and I wasn't sure if the tears would ever stop. I had lost Frank to Jamia. I couldn't win him over, he still wants to marry her. He is going to marry her in ten days. Now I have no one. Ever since I was little I dreamed of meeting my soulmate. I didn't care what their gender would be or their appearance. I didn't care about their wealth or knowledge, I only cared about them. I knew one day I was gonna meet someone who was gonna be perfect for me who I'd love forever with all my heart. I knew there would be someone I would hold forever, who would be the closest person to me. Someone that I can connect with and tell everything. A special person who would love me unconditionally. There was supposed to be someone I would get to see the colors with and live with and just have a happy life with full of all sorts of rainbows and colors and happiness. But I lost that someone.
