From A Place Behind The Smile

The Old Blue Shoes These shoes have lasted for over two years. They've seen some adventures, they've witnessed some fears. Through all the anxiety that one could possibly face, They're plenty worn down and needing replaced. There aren't any laces. They slide easily on. And with that benefit, they are readily donned. Why hold on to these two aging shoes? Because of all of the steps, I took in them with you. They've been to the movies, and then out to eat. They've been to parades on the side of the street. Many a mile since they were gifted to me, And I'll keep wearing them until they fall off my feet. These shoes hold a memory of a ghost of a love. They'd still be holding on, never getting enough, But you went away, and I've finally come to terms, That we can't rebuild the bridge that grew between us and burned. But these shoes still remind me of water parks and slides. "A Thousand Years" played in that wave pool, I nearly cried. Because once upon a time, I met this lovely girl, And I wanted nothing more than to give her the world.. Money is the root cause of my final demise. I've done stupid things, but at least I still tried. Trauma was a wedge that we couldn't survive. It was my last big hoorah, at a normal, loving life. Onward I walk as the colors fade away, From these worn-out blue shoes that you bought me that day. If I could go back, I'd fix all I did wrong, But since that isn't possible, I'll slide into my shoes.. And walk on...
