CHAPTER ONE (ANNA) Finally, I made it, I still can’t believe it though, it was like a dream, after years of applying for scholarship with no positive outcome, I was about to give up but I told myself to give it a try for the last time and the result was shocking. Here I am at an airport in New York city with a fully funded scholarship to further my education in M.A Linguistics. With excitement I pick up my luggage and move to the next cab man and show him the address of the hotel I will be lodging at for the main time till I find a permanent accommodation. On the way to the hotel, I can’t stop looking around me in awe at the scenery, where I came from is beautiful but this is just so astounding, I was awestruck by my surroundings, I couldn’t stop the smile on my face, good fortune is shining it beauty on me at last. On getting to my hotel room I took a bath and rest for a while, when I wake up am giving a call to the agent I got through online search. Waking up some hours’ time, I check my phone it was 1:30pm, I quickly got dressed then went to the hotel restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was filled with people of all races I guess I wasn’t the only one in here that has business with this country. The waiter, a blonde skinny girl takes my order and left, I bring out my phone from my purse to give the agent a call. “Hello, is this Mrs. Audrey of Williams agency and consultancy limited?” “Yes, how may I help you” “This is Anna Leon from Botswana I gave you a call last week about an accommodation I would like to get in New York.” “Yes, I remember, Miss Anna welcome to New York how was your trip, hope it’s not stressful.” “No it’s not, thanks.” “About the accommodation, I find some places for you base on your budget and the location you want, I will send you an address for where to meet up so you can check out the apartments. When will you be available.” “Tomorrow, I want to get the apartment as soon as possible since registration is starting next week and today is Tuesday.” “Alright, no problem I will forward you the address now, have a nice day miss Anna.” “You too Mrs. Audrey.” Now to the next agenda of the day, sightseeing I need to familiarize myself with the university and its environment and due to my research, the hotel is a few distance away from the university, I can walk the few distance there and get to know the area. The waiter serves my lunch and I quickly eat up to start my next agenda. After eating I pay to the cashier and went out of the hotel, once am at the entrance I put on my earpiece to listen to music, this will give me more boost as I walk the distance. The street was parked with people going on, on their business there were a lot to see on the streets from clothing stores to mobile store, make up and groceries store and most of these store have a vacancy sign on their post I hope the apartment I get would be close by so I can apply for one of the vacancies. The university was even more beautiful than the picture of it I have on my phone, I don’t know where to start my search the place is grand so I decided to look for my faculty first, I ask for direction from the student passing by and I finally locate it, the faculty building was huge it was bigger than the one of my university back at home, I went in and explore, from there I went to some other faculty and lecture rooms and also the main auditorium of the university where I will be having my orientation next week. At the end of my exploration I went to a restaurant I saw close to my faculty for a drink after that I went back to the hotel to turn in for the day. ******** Waking up the next morning I was looking forward to my appointment with Mrs. Audrey, putting on my blue shirt and jean trouser with my black booth, I head down for breakfast after that I get a cab to the location Mrs. Audrey sent to me. The location was easy to find and not far from the university, the cab driver drops me at the front of a two story building apartment that has the same address with the one sent to me. Looking around for Mrs. Audrey, a tall slim woman with blonde hair walk toward me and I can’t help but look at her with fascination, she looks like she just steps out of a vogue magazine, she looks astonishing in her red blazer jacket with matching material trouser, she looks expensive with her lovely face. She smiles at me then ask; “You must be Anna.” I reply her with a smile on my face “Yes, nice to finally meet you.” “You too, I guessed it was you by the way you were looking around, hope it wasn’t difficult finding your way here”. “Not at all, the cab I took from my hotel drop me here”. “Good, shall we? She said gesturing in the direction of the building” We got to the vacant room on the second floor of the building but it wasn’t to my taste, the living room and bedroom were on the same space it makes the room looks stuffy, I don’t like that, I want something different so we went to the next location which wasn’t to my liking also. On getting to the fourth apartment, I fell in love with it immediately it was spacious and the living room and bedroom were on different space. The bedroom window was facing the street and the living room was spacious enough to have a kitchen at the corner, the window beside the kitchen counter was facing the mouth of the alley. This is what I was looking for, I can see the busy street from my living room window, with a smile I face Mrs. Audrey. “It looks like you like this one.” “Yes I do, in fact I would like to pay for it now.” “Alright let’s go to my office so you can sign the necessary documents.”
