Chapter 2

Triton's POV " Triton!" I hear the King commanding my presence. I leave my post on the outside of the throne room door and swim to the King. "Yes Sire." standing upright "My Daughter rushed out of the palace, please find her and make sure she gets home safely. It's night time and she's in a bit of a state, we're so I'm worried." "Yes, Your Highness." I follow my orders. I exit the palace and into the city. Where would I find the Princess? Most of my job consists of me finding her so I should know exactly where she would go. Coming to a complete stop I search around the city looking for her white blonde hair and pink tail. She is so radiant she should stand out from the rest of the mermaids in the city. Looking for the most beautiful mermaid in Atlantis is in my opinion, the best job ever. I've been out to Sea Clubs and seen lots of Mermaids but I've never seen another Mermaid as gorgeous as her. But I work for her family. I could never try and be anything more than just her fathers' head guard. I became obsessed with tapping into her thoughts and hearing what she thinks about me. I've liked her since the day I started working for King Neptune but I could never tell her. It would make her do something stupid and I don't want to put that kind of opportunity in her mind. What am I thinking I need to find the Princess. Then suddenly it hit me. She always longs to be in the sun. The Rock! I always find her there. I head towards the rock immediately. Moments later, I get closer to the rock. I hear faint sobbing. Ah it's probably another lost fish. As I get closer the sound just gets louder. I swim up to the surface and pop my head out of the water, I see the most beautiful mermaid in so much pain. She hasn't realised that I'm close by. I float closer to her, wanting to give her comfort. But I am here for one thing only and that is to make sure she's safe. "Coralie?" I say gently, not to startle her. She looks my way, and quickly wipes her tears. She manages to share a slight smile from the corners of her lips. "Yes, Triton." She answers, trying to sound like she's okay. I love the way my name rolls off her tounge. "I came to make sure you're okay." "I am, I guess." She tells me, showing me her true emotions. I hate seeing her so sad. What could possibly make her so upset? "Do you want to talk about it?" my voice shaking. "Its my parents." She dips her hand in the water watching as the moonlight scatters. "What about them?" "Sometimes I just feel like giving up my crown because I get forced to do all the crazy things you know?" She turns to me waiting for my reaction. "I think you need to take your mind off things." I push out my arm gesturing for her to give me her hand. She looks at it and frowns as if she doesn't understand why I want it. "How will you do that, uh take my mind off things." she gives me a strange look. "Come with me to my cave. I can tell you like finding new things." "What about my father, he will kill me if he knew." I hear the fear in her voice. "No, I'll tell him I was watching over you while you were at your rock and I followed you back to the palace when you left. To make sure you got home safely." I comfort her. " Okay, Sure we can go." She tells me. Coralie's POV Triton and I swim to his cave, I've never been there before. Why is he being so kind to me? "So, what exactly is making you feel like you want to give up your crown" He asks me. "My parents are sending me away, but you probably know that already." I say harshly. "Your Father did mention travelling to shore with you in a few days. But not that they're sending you away. " He says surprised. "They sending me to a human School." I hear the rejection in my voice, expressing exactly how I feel. "Wow, I had no idea that was why." I hear him. We carry on swimming for a few more minutes. "We're almost at my cave." He informs me. I look around and I see nothing but open sea, the water starts getting colder. There's no fish around. If anything, we're swimming far away from Atlantis. Should I trust him? Finally, I see the cave in a distance. We stop in front of the opening of the cave. Algae living on the rock, the cave forms a enormous circle entrance, I squint my eyes to see further than the opening. Its just darkness inside. I'm almost too afraid to go in. What if it's home to a vicious monster? "You stay here alone? " I ask making sure there's no crackens inside. "Yes I like being away from the city life." He says. He gestures me to enter his cave. I follow, not taking my eyes off his tail. It's so dark in here, I could get lost. I see some light ahead of me, it appears we are here. Triton offers me a kelp smoothie to help calm me down. "It's just that, I don't want to go to a human school, what should I do there? I know absolutely nobody. My life is so over. This is all just for my father, so the humans can accept us. I cannot believe he is turning my whole life upside down for humans to accept us. That will NEVER happen." I blurt out all in one breathe. Triton seems to be a good listener, or he just doesn't want to say anything bad about my father. He just nods with every complaint that comes from my mouth. " You know Coralie... at least I'll miss you when you leave." Triton tells me staring into my eyes. I stare at him for a second and look away. I blushed as if the sun fell and landed in the ocean. "You will? I thought I'm just a drag to you. You always get sent to find me and make sure I'm okay. I'm sure it gets boring." I say rolling my eyes. " No never, you're the only other merfolk that loves being away from Atlantis and trust me I've met many. So running after you to get away from Atlantis is the best part of my job." He says smiling. I lift my head and look at him, having no control over the huge grin on my face. Suddenly I see Triton reaching over to me, with his hand and he slides his hand through my long white blonde hair. Our eyes lock together and we both lean in. One touch of his lips and I feel something funny, a shocking electric feeling in my tail. I love the feeling. Now I really never want to leave the ocean. Triton pulls away from our kiss and looks into my eyes. "Coralie.. You know, I can hear your thoughts about me." He tells me. What! He's been reading my thoughts, why would he do that? "So all this time you, you knew I liked you? " I ask shyly. "Yes, and how my muscles are screaming for you to touch them." He says nonchalantly. "OH No! I feel so silly now. I should've known!" " No big deal. I like you too. I always have." He tells me. I smile, feeling flattered. For the rest of the night we held each other and spoke about how we didn't know we would ever tell each other how we feel. Suddenly, an idea pops into my head. " Triton!! What if I asked my father if you could come with me. You know for security? " I say. " You want me with you? " He asks. " Yes, Well I've always liked you. Now that I know you feel the same we should give this a try. Trust me we'd never be able to do this if we were in Atlantis. You know because of stupid royalty rules." I say. "True. Yes you can ask your father. Besides, he only trusts his Head Guard to look after his precious Princess. " He states.
