March 3rd, 2011 First Brigade Day!!
My name is Danna Anne Davis, today is actually November 16th, 2011. Am about to tell my story, but I won't publish it, as I promised my self, until August 20th of 2081. The story will be known only if I get to live 70 more years and I get to celebrate my 90th birthday, sounds crazy, I know, but what happened to me this year, was so so big that is just unbelievable and scary, so I hope that after 70 years, it will be just a story to tell, and it will be up to the reader to believe it as a true story or just as a big fantasy story. And by then, I will not run into any kind of danger by telling what happened in detail.
Let's start, March 3rd, 2011
We arrived to the City of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, around 11am, at the airport we got introduced to this amazing couple that gave us the welcome to Honduras. We than were directed to a yellow medium size bus. In total my team was of about 20 missionaries including myself. After 6 or seven hours we finally arrived to a beautiful town called Santa Barbara. There was a school enough for all of us to sit comfortable on the floor, and it was going to be our 'hotel' for the next couples of days. ''Hello hello, if this is your first time in Honduras, than I bet the flight was a whole big experience for you, and yes, I know it can be really really scary. But thanks to the Lord, you're all here today to do wonderful things for this community that is in so much need of Christ, medicine and food and of course love. My name is Peter Mendel, and I've been working in Honduras for the past 10 years.''
After Peter introduced himself and his family, he introduced two team guys that were basically the leaders of the group. They both had come to Honduras for the last 5 years. The first one was named Kyle Peterson and the second one was Mateo Ruben, but everyone called him Matt. Kyle was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia, he had blonde hair, beautiful blue eyes, he was kind of tall, and was also a musician at his church, he played the piano. He was also studying medicine at college, and has always been a Christian. Matt was also from Atlanta, Georgia, and was Kyle’s best friend. Matt was born in Honduras but was raised in the States, his father George Ruben was from San Antonio, Texas, and his mother Esther, was from La Ceiba, Honduras. Matt was white skin with and had such beautiful black eyes and black hair, he was neither tall nor short. Matt has also been a Christian all of his life, and was also a musician at his church, he played the guitar. And he was also studying to be a doctor. Paul gave us a whole explanation of everything that we were going to be doing and how important we were for all those people that were going to be hearing about God for the first time. Honestly, I didn’t even know why on Earth I was on the brigade, I do believe in God, but I have never been a Christian, I did go to church on Sundays, just so mom would have some company, but I never paid attention to any kind of sermons. I decided to come to the brigade so I could run away from my house. I was drowning at my house, and had all my feelings crushed. My dad, to start with, was always drunk, he would sleep almost every night at different hotels and with different women, and on the days the he manage to be home, there was always a fight with my mom. He always used to tell us that he hated us because we didn’t care for him and we didn’t respect him. Mom on the other hand, was always very quiet, she used to pray for him every day, she was Sunday after Sunday at church. I asked her why she didn’t leave dad, and she always answered the same thing, ‘’Honey, God has a plan for your dad, He is going to change him, we just have to believe, and when God finally transforms him, you will be amazed.’’ I felt really bad for my mom, she basically raised me up on her own, my dad started to change when I was about 3 years old. He used to be very loving and kind and we all used to go to church together, I don’t know for sure what happened to him. And on top of my family problems, I was not doing ok at college, and to top it off, my last boyfriend slept with my so call best friend. So now here I was, trying to cheer up people and help people, when it was actually me the one who needed help. I was not happy to be on the brigade, I wanted to be at a far island enjoying life, and with no worries at all. But I thought to myself, well maybe something good can come out in this brigade, like for example, the two team leader are both very handsome, maybe I can hook up with one of them, I really wanted some attention and love. Honestly my mind was just elsewhere imaging all kinds of things, Peter was talking and telling everyone about the people that we were going to be helping, but I was not paying any attention to him. After the meeting, we had dinner and we sang some songs and read the Bible, and got some instructions for the next day. And oh boy, who would have thought that, that next day was going to change my life forever.
NEXT DAY...
