"It's time to wake up." The blankets were stolen from Katherine before she was even ready to wake up. Katherine was ripped away from her dreams, in her dreams she was home with her parents and the world of vampires was just a bad dream.
"Ancelin." She groaned as she was brought back to reality. "Five more minutes." Ancelin is awfully pushy this morning.
"Girl, wake up." A voice snapped. Katherine's eyes flew open as she shot up in bed.
"You're not Ancelin." She pointed out, holding her blankets was a new maid. She was taller and leaner than Ancelin, her hair reminded Katherine of straw and even her iris were the color of straw.
"Of course not," the new maid sneered.
"Where is Ancelin?" The maid looked nervous, avoiding Katherine's eyes.
"She's been punished. Master has her hidden as her punishment." The maid started looking everywhere but at Katherine. s**t! Katherine screamed in her head.
"Where's Caius?" Katherine asked slowly. As she scooted to the edge of the bed. The maid dropped the blanket on the bed.
"His office." That was all Katherine needed, she sprinted out the room barefoot and only in her thin nightgown. Behind her the maid yelled in protest. The tiled floor was cold on her feet but she kept running. Finally she made her way to Caius's office and without knocking stormed in.
"Close your eyes, or lose your head." Caius ordered Marian who stood beside Caius's desk.
"Where's Ancelin?" She ordered him, he sighed standing up and shedding his coat.
"Your clothes are so thin," he muttered as he walked to her. "You'll catch a cold."
"Caius." She pushed his hands away. "Where is Ancelin?" He frowned, displeased as he wrapped his jacket over her shoulders.
"Marian, why don't you leave us and get Katherine a pair of shoes." Caius guided her to the couches. "We will finish our discussion later." Marian nodded before running out the room with his eyes closed. "My dove, why are you so angry?"
"You took Ancelin," she glared at him as he sat down on the couch.
"Who?" He rubbed his temples with his long fingers.
"My maid, Caius!" She snapped. "Give me back my maid!" He grabbed her pulling her onto him, his eyes were red as he looked her in the eyes. She sat with both legs on either side of his hips, his fingers digging into her outer thighs. Her heart raced in her chest.
"She was punished for her loud mouth." He hissed. "Why should I return her to you? Because you demanded it?" His chest began to shake with anger beneath her hand. Her mouth was dry as she swallowed hard, she was afraid for a split second. No! She pushed those thoughts away. I don't want him to kill my only friend!
She closed her eyes before snaking her hand up his chest and locking her fingers behind his neck. "Caius," she breathed his name as she leaned forward. His red eyes softened and his grip relaxed. Perhaps realizing what position they were at. "Please?" She brushed her lips against his, he froze under her touch.
He closed his eyes as she placed another soft kiss on his lips. Thank you Allison, she thought as his arms wrapped around her waist. She was startled as he deepened the kiss, his tongue slipping between her lips. Wait! Her brain screamed. She pushed back. He frowned as he looked at her, his eyes burning bright. "Fine," he gently pushed her off him and onto the couch beside him. "This is a warning, Katherine, I won't do this again." Katherine breathed a sigh of relief, Marian and a maid walked in as Katherine scrambled to her feet. Embarrassed. "Marian go fetch the maid and bring her to Katherine's room." The maid laid Katherine's slippers in front of Katherine, she slipped them on and stood. "Take her back to her room."
Katherine turned to follow the maid, but Caius's cold hands gripped her wrist and pulled her to him for one last kiss. "Go." He mumbled against her lips. "Go before I change my mind." He let her go, and she hurried after the maid feeling like she won a million dollars. She blushed as she replayed the kiss over and over again. Allison would be so proud. She held Caius's coat tight around her, breathing his scent in.
When she got to her room she was bombarded by a weeping Ancelin who threw her arms around her. "My lady!" She cried. "I thought I was a goner." The other maid left them, closing the heavy door behind them. "How can I ever repay you?"
"I'm so glad you're okay!" Katherine hugged her back. I don't have to tell her how I saved her life, her cheeks burned as the kiss flashed through her mind.
Katherine sat in her room with Ancelin, not once did the two girls leave nor did anyone come knocking. Ancelin's back was sliced up from the beating she had gotten in the basement. As Ancelin sat on a stool in Katherine's on suite bathroom, the back of her dress opened. Exposing the wounds. Ancelin winced in pain as Katherine cleaned her wounds with a warm rag. "I'm sorry." Katherine apologized for the hundredth time.
"It's okay, my lady." Ancelin whimpered.
"I thought vampires had super healing." Katherine said aloud. At least they do in the books.
"They do." Ancelin stated, shifting her weight to the other side. "I'm only half."
"Half?"
"Half vampire, half human." Ancelin winced when Katherine touched the slice above her shoulder. "That's why I was hired to serve you, my lady." Ancelin turned to look at Katherine. "My lady, might I ask how you were able to set me free?"
Katherine dropped the rag, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I-I don't know." She lied as she leaned down to pick the b****y rag off the floor. Even through her tears, Ancelin smiled.
"Thank you," Ancelin smiled for the millionth time since she was set free this morning.
