"My lady," Ancelin returned to the room, this time she was carrying a tray of food. "I've brought you something to eat, it's not much but it should be light on your stomach."
"Oh," Katherine sat up and watched her lay the tray on a small table beside the large window in the room. "Thank you." Katherine went to stand, but one panicked look across Ancelin's face caused her to quickly sit back down. After sitting the tray down, Ancelin opened a large wardrobe and grabbed a pair of slippers and ran back to Katherine. "Oh, it's okay." Ancelin gently took Katherine's foot into her cold hand. "I can do it myself."
"But, my lady!" Ancelin looked up at her, her eyes welling up with tears.
"Oh, okay." Katherine looked away, she didn't want to have this girl cry in front of her. It would make her feel bad. "Ancelin." Katherine twiddled her thumbs as the maid finished slipping Katherine's slippers on her. "Where exactly am I?" Ancelin returned back to the wardrobe, grabbing out a light pink sheer house coat.
"The Master's manor, of course." Ancelin held the housecoat up, helping Katherine into the housecoat. Katherine was about to ask more, wanting to get more information about her surroundings but the bedroom door swung open. There with a panicked look on the newcomer. Wow, Katherine thought. The man was tall, his skin was like snow and his face was inhumanly beautiful, his jaw was sharp and his hair was long and white. And his eyes, oh how beautiful his eyes were. I remember those eyes, Katherine thought about the man who rescued her and he had a beautiful violet color. He wore black slacks and a white pirate shirt. Katherine looked over to Ancelin, she was in a deep bow. This must be the Master she was speaking about.
"My pet," he kneeled in front of Katherine, taking her hands into her cold hand. "I was worried about you, and when you didn't open your eyes." He rested his cold forehead on her hands. "I just found you, I don't know what I would have done if you never opened your eyes."
"I'm sorry." She whispered, her heart was beating wildly. "I don't understand what is happening." He looked up at her, peering into her eyes before giving her a soft smile.
"In time, my dove." He kissed the back of her hand and made her stomach do flips. He stood back up, letting her hand go before turning to the maid. "Ancelin." His voice was cold. Ancelin was frozen and kept staring at her feet. "You will be Katherine's companion. Serve her with your life." Ancelin shivered.
"Y-yes master." Ancelin stuttered, Katherine frowned, everything was making her head spin. What was going on?
"Good." The master turned his attention back to Katherine, his face softened. "Katherine, my pet, I must return to my work. If you need anything, let Ancelin know, rest for the rest of the day." He turned to walk out.
"W-wait!" Katherine chased after him, grabbing his sleeve. "Did you save me, that night?" She whispered, her heart pounding loudly in her ears.
"Of course," he smiled. "I'm your mate, that's what I am to do." He took her hand, gave it a squeeze before letting it go. "Now, go rest." He nodded back to her bed, but then left her behind as the door slowly closed.
"Ah, I was so afraid." Ancelin sighed, stretching her arms high above her head. "He's so terrifying." Katherine turned to look at Ancelin, biting her bottom lip.
"Where am I?" Ancelin blinked slowly, she looked confused.
"You're in the Dark Realm, my lady." She smiled at her. "And you're so lucky, my lady, your mate is the most powerful man all over the Dark Realm." Ancelin grabbed Katherine's hand and pulled her to the small table where the tray sat. "You must eat before the porridge gets cold." She smiled and opened the lid, the porridge was bland looking and a single piece of toast beside the by. Okay, Rose, she thought. I guess I'll get better and learn a little bit at a time.
Katherine was laying in her bed, staring up at the dark ceiling. She was trying to think of how she got here. Ancelin was nice, a little weird. But nice, but that man didn't know what to really think about him. He was handsome, most handsome man she had ever seen. Katherine sighed, trying to close her eyes. Tears slowly falling from her cheek. Maybe this is all a bad dream, she told herself. And when I wake up I'll be in my bed. Outside the walls she could hear an echoing of a howl, and for once in her life she never felt so lonely.
"Ancelin." She whispered, afraid to be alone in the darkness. Moments passed and there was only the sound of the wind outside the large window, even the howling came to an end and finally she was able to drift to sleep. In her dream she was standing on the bridge, surrounded by the three men with glowing red eyes. She wanted to run, but it was as if her legs were made of concrete. But then, as if an angel coming from heaven, the master appeared and the world began to fade around them.
"Good morning, my lady." Katherine opened her eyes, Ancelin was there opening the curtains. The early morning light that Katherine had grown accustomed to her whole life was gone, only darkness waited outside the window. "Are you feeling well?"
Come to think of it, Katherine squeezed her eyes closed. Yesterday at midday there wasn't even sunlight. "Ancelin," she peeked, her eyes open watching the maid light the candles scattered around the room. "What time is it?"
"Eight in the morning, my lady." Ancelin said cheerfully. Katherine slowly propped herself on her elbows.
"Ancelin, why isn't there any sunlight?"
"Well," Ancelin blew out the match and sat it on the dresser before opening the wardrobe. "The Dark Realm is under eternal night."
"But why?" Katherine pushed off the covers and sat her feet at the edge of the bed. Eternal night sounds like something from a horror movie.
"Because we are vampire's, my lady." Ancelin smiled as she kneeled in front of her, slipping the slippers on. Her cold hands brushing against Katherine's bare ankle.
