Second Chance

Luis's Pov Aching in my body consumed me as I saw servants and even my Beta vampire, Eddie, rush through the room and assist my soon-to-be ex-wife. I looked at Eddie and reached out my hand. "Assistance, please?" I asked, barely croaking out the words. Eddie turned toward me, his eyes blaring reddish amber, as he looked at Millie, who was now being carried by her personal assistant and two servants to the ambulance that awaited outside. Eddie slowly came toward me and hoisted me up and wrapped my arm around his shoulder, helping steady me as he muttered. "Was it really worth it, Luis?" Eddy asked as I stumbled, holding on to him more for support. We walked down the stairs behind the ever-growing fleet around Millie; I was a tad irritated as I was their leader and most of them were my fledglings. Yet I knew it was because I was over 1,000 years old and the next heir to an Elder bloodline, meaning my healing would make this chosen mate bond snap heal as if it was a pinprick in a couple of hours. However, Millie was half-human, which I cursed myself for forgetting when I slept with Gracie when two-weeks from when I met her that fateful night. I pondered my thoughts as I saw the first ambulance drive off and another paramedic in a second ambulance approaching me. I simply waved him off. "My Beta will drive me to the hospital; focus on the former Luna. She is pregnant with my heir." I said; as the paramedic ran to his ambulance, I walked with Eddie, helping me to one of our six BMWs. I let him put me in the passengers seat, a cold sweat still breaking out, soaking my suit as Eddie got into the driver's seat and began our way to the hospital. We did not speak for a few minutes; I looked to Eddie, who was about 6 ft 2 and had ,deep almond skin he alone nearly killed the pale vampire stereotype with his skin tone and short black wavy hair. Breaking the silence in the car, I talked to my best friend of over 800 years. "I am your Lord, Alpha, and friend Edwin. Do you not care for me as much as the soon-to-be former Luna?" Eddylooked toward me with a snarl as I used his full name. Though his eyes were blaring red at me, they were slowly turning back to their normal chocolate-brown color. "We are about 30 minutes out from the hospital. Do you really want to have this conversation, Luis?" Eddy asked. Trying to calm myself as my body was aching for the first time in hundreds of years from the bond snapping. "I thought I had secured the area with Faye bond repealing magic. I am sorry I forgot that my chosen mate was half-human in my lust for my second-chance mate." I admitted my failure to protect millie. I spat at him, seeing Eddie, who only growled at me in response. "Are you sure it is your second-chance, Luis? You know Is-" I snapped at him, pushing out my Alpha aura. "DO NOT SPEAK HER NAME TO ME!" I roared at him, almost mentioning my first fateds name. Eddie shrugged at the display as he was used to it by now after being my second in command for over 800 years. "Yeah, well, it is confirmed and proved that she shall not be named died because you let your fated deceive you, and it almost cost us the whole colony!" Eddy shouted at me, not looking away from the road. I groaned at the memory of those days which happened around 700 years ago when I was only 300 years old. I met my first chance fated mate when I was still studying under my father to take over his colony in the following decades. I knew by her bloods scent alone she was supposed to be mine when I met her at one of the colony gatherings my father had made me attend. She was the daughter of another Elder Vampire of a neighboring colony. To say my parents were beyond thrilled was an understatement, yet all it led to was heartache and the death of the woman whom I cherished with my soul because she betrayed me for greed and power. I moved uncomfortably in my seat due to both the memory and the pain that was still rocking in my body. "You have not met Gracie; she is different from my last one. She is not even of Elder-blood. She is a simple fledgling that lost its sire due to hunters' invasion of their colony. You were there the day when we went to the Colony of Jasmine Fields to provide relief after the ambush." I said to him my eyes looking at Eddys stern face. Eddy shuddered at the mention of the destroyed colony, yet he turned to me. "Okay, but still, she is just past her newborn stage. She's only fed 20 times and hunted a few times with her maker? Besides, we could not find out for sure who her maker was." Eddy said. Ignoring his complaints, I thought of my second-chance mate, remembering the smell of daffodils and the length of her chestnut-brown hair and how her hazel eyes looked at me with awe and admiration. "Listen, I know how I handled it wrongly, but I did know her for a week, and I just couldn't touch her, even though I sometimes lose myself." I said, my eyes looking for any sense of understanding from my Beta who I made swear he would not tell his Luna of Gracie. Eddy, pulled into the hospital, only turned to me as he opened his door to get out. "Yes, but Luna Millie is carrying your heir and has served this colony for 8 years since she agreed to the marriage contract you both signed when she was 20." Eddy said as he got out of the car and slammed the door shut behind him. I sighed and opened the door, wincing in pain, and waited for Eddie to help me walk into the hospital. I was a little less agitated now when I saw doctors and nurses rushing to me, ushering us to a private room, undressing me to change into a gown, and setting me in the room. As they left, only Eddy remained, and I could hear the staff chattering as I looked at Eddie. "I am aware she is. It is not like we were not trying for an heir. I just thought after so many years, maybe her human half could not bear it." I said, trying to comfort myself in some way. "I should go check on her and the heirs." Eddy said, about to leave me. "I am your maker, your sire, and your Alpha..I order you to stay here. In fact, I command you to stay at my side at all times and do not contact Lady Millicent unless I give my approval." I hissed, seeing Eddy's eyes flicker red, then to silver, smiling as I knew my command had worked. Eddy snarled at me but soon sat down in the chair next to me. This was enough for me to feel slightly better about the situation as I refused my second-in-command to abandon me for Millie. My heart still ached, knowing that I had unknowingly risked my heir to have the chance to be lost in the Faye realms. I thought of Millie being pregnant. We tried for years, once she agreed to try for children. I had no real expectations she would conceive of us not being the same species. Though now I had to worry about the unborn child in my former Luna's womb. Then I remembered that if I got Gracie pregnant, not only would our heir be a full vampire, but have no issues with any council or vampire contestants, as they would be a full-blooded vampire rather than a halfling like my heir with Millie. I smirked as the damage to my family's reputation for breaking the contract and chosen-mate laws would be overlooked for providing a full-blooded heir to our colony. This and thinking of the scent of Gracie, helped me rest, hoping to wake up to a doctor soon to tell me I could go home to my beloved second-chance mate and focus on our lives together.
