The clouds roared, colliding together, and lights decorated the night sky.
The night Hades arrived and met his mate, Zeus celebrated his brother’s first milestone. It was one of none that he seemed to acquire in his lifetime of bad luck in the matters of love.
To show his brother that he approved of his feisty mate, he gave the children of Gaia, rain to symbolize welfare and emotional cleansing, thunder-like trumpets of the skies welcoming her into their large dysfunctional family, and lastly, lightening to celebrate with flare.
Hades rolled his eyes at his brother’s display of pretentiousness.
Hades heard the front door being opened as human footsteps turned into the prancing of wolves.
He sighed as he looked out the window, scanning the greenery that skirted the estate.
His eyes fell onto a special figure that stood out from between all the other wolves, even with the rain falling heavily.
A russet-red coloured wolf, looked back up at him, before turning away and leading a bunch of wolves for a stroll underneath the rainfall.
She was beautiful, magnificent, unlike any other. She was slightly larger than the other wolves he noticed, but not the size of a real alpha.
Feyrouz wasn’t born an alpha, but she was a true alpha at heart.
He felt an immense amount of strength in her, that wasn’t even in Ariel.
Feyrouz was tough, dedicated, passionate, and mostly...broken. She didn’t simply have a broken heart, she had her trust broken and smashed into smithereens. She didn’t trust anyone.
He could see it in her wolf’s eyes, she yearned for a love that would be safe, that would shield her from the horrible world that showed her no mercy and promise her that she’ll never be hurt again. He knew that neither she or her wolf trusted him, that it was something he was going to have to earn but all in due time.
Good things come to those who wait, and Hades had all the time in the world. Because the moment his eyes met hers, he knew she was difficult but definitely worth it.
Paws thudded against the soft muddy earth, the wolves relishing the feeling of exhilaration that rushed through their being.
Their padded paws felt nature’s vibrations radiating to their spines.
They felt free, wild, and they loved it when it rained. There would be no other predator in sight. Only the sounds of their stomps against the ground and their howls in the night.

The next morning Feyrouz woke up feeling refreshed and buzzing with energy.
She hasn’t run like that in ages, and when she and Xavier came back home from the group run, she slept like a baby.
Jumping into the shower, she ran the lukewarm water and lathered herself with her favourite body wash.
Afterwards, she wrapped herself with a bath towel and dried herself off.
Feyrouz looked at her reflection in the mirror.
I look so...plain. She thought, tracing her fingers over the freckles on her face. Maybe a little makeup wouldn’t hurt.
Makeup? Why would we need any makeup? We look perfect! Her wolf objected.
Perfect my ass. A little colour wouldn’t hurt...
Since when?
Since now.
Is this because of HIM?
Feyrouz hesitated to reply to her wolf. Fearing the answer she would voice.
I know you feel the connection. I do too, b-but we can’t Fey, we just can’t risk the exposure of our vulnerability to anyone else.
I know. Don’t worry, I’ve got us handled. We’ll never have a mate. We have each other. That’s all we need. It’s all we ever needed.
Their conversation ended there, both of them trying to ignore the stinging pain that ached in their hearts.
Feyrouz had put a damper on her mood but she decided to shake it off and focus on two things, getting Hades out of her hair ASAP and finishing pack work for today.
In her dressing room, she put on undergarments, a pair of high waisted black jeans, and a basic black spaghetti strap crop top with a pair of white converse. Then, she dried her hair quickly and sprayed on her favourite Carolina Herrera perfume, CH, before hurriedly turning away to head out. But something stopped her midway so she went back to her vanity mirror and bit her lower lip in frustration. Sighing, she reached out to grab her lip tint and reluctantly dabbed some on her lips and cheeks before giving herself a satisfied nod and heading out once more.
Walking into the dining room, the help made her favourite breakfast.
Freshly baked vanilla cake, strawberry topped pancakes with drizzled chocolate, and fruit, along with a concentrated cup of coffee.
“Thank you, Anne. This looks delicious.” Feyrouz said, humming in delight.
Anne, a stubby short blonde woman in her mid-fifties, patted Feyrouz’s head before sweetly smiling at her, “It’s my pleasure sweetie.”
Xavier strolled in, seeming to be in the same refreshed mood that Fey was in.
“Morning Alpha Fey.” He greeted her, grabbing a cup of coffee while Anne brought him a plate of bacon and scrambled eggs. “Thank you, Anne.”
Anne smiled at them kindly and excused herself, only to find Hades in her path.
Startled, Anne sidestepped him and bowed her head respectfully, “Morning Sir, what can I get you for breakfast?” She asked.
“Nothing, thank you.” He replied briefly, giving her a charming smile.
He needed people to like him, even though he never cared for such a thing. But to win her over he needed to be humble, nice, and to smile...a lot, which was something he found annoying but obligatory.
Xavier gobbled up as much food as possible and downed his coffee so that he wouldn’t be a witness to the bloodbath that was about to happen.
Feyrouz glared at him, as she noticed that he was hurrying to leave.
Xavier gave her a sheepish smile before excusing himself quickly and rushing out the door to see his duties through.
Cursing under her breath, she focused on eating her breakfast and avoided eye contact at all costs.
Hades chuckled, “So, do you usually get dolled up for everyone?” He asked.
Feyrouz’s already flushed cheeks turned beet red, and with her pale freckled complexion and ginger hair, she literally looked like a tomato about to explode.
“No need to be embarrassed, you look ravishing enough to eat for breakfast.” He mused.
Feyrouz slammed her fork on the table abruptly, clenching her jaws as she narrowed her eyes at him, “Listen good and listen clearly. You and me...we’re not going to happen, and if you think for a second that your little display yesterday would force me to yield and give in to you, you were wrong. I will not be ambushed nor will I be roped into your plans to ‘win’ me over. I do not need a mate and I do not want one so leave me alone and don’t waste your time.” She spat, before shoving a cantaloupe cube in her mouth.
Hades rolled his eyes, “What you want and what you need aren’t my concern, my concern has more to do what you’ll get. Which is, luckily for you, me as your mate.” He said with a fake excited voice, before giving her a poker face, “You’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not because unlike normal mates, I’m not part werewolf, which means you can’t reject me.”
“Of course I can reject you, what on earth do you mean!”
“Try it. Say it and it won’t work.”
Feyrouz growled, “You’re rejected! Get out!”
In one swift move, Hades grabbed her forearm, pulled her up, and pinned her against a wall so she couldn’t move.
His hands were on her arms sending sparks through her body, “Did it work? Is our bond broken? Has my touch ceased to affect you?”
Feyrouz gasped in shock before feeling enraged, “Get. Off. Me.” She growled.
Hades released her roughly before teleporting out of her house to the underworld. He needed a breath of undead air.
Feyrouz was left wondering how he did that and where he went as she stared after him.
