Dinner was spent mostly conversing with Alex, with a few words thrown in from Simone now and again. Alex for some reason, seems to want to know everything about me. My family, my life before America. I told them the same story as everyone else, but he wasn't satisy and wouldn't stop with the questions.
"So you are eighteen, right?" he asks waiting on my confirmation.
First humans, did not age as second humans. In fact, I was only 5 years in my world. Kayla had helped me choose an age suitable in the human world.
"Yes," I confirmed. He almost seem relieved.
"So which city in Egypt are you originally from?" he questions suddenly, the fork in his hand pauses mid air.
"Cairo." I answer confidently, giving him a sweet smile.
"Cairo, you know we've been there several times," he tells me as if remenising.
Damd it! I though. So far no one I met had been to Egypt, much less to the city of Cairo.
"It's a beautiful city, rich in history and majick," he ends wisfully.
"What is your family name?" he queries again, not giving up.
I don't answer, instead I place my fork down on my plate and stare at him feeling perplexed.
"Why all these question?" I ask instead, frowning.
"It's called getting to know each other," he replies sacastically.
"You know, we have an alliance with the Lycan Kings of each continent," Simone pipes in, sensing the unease in the room.
"What does that means exactly?" I ask her, turning to look in her direction.
She looks at Alex, as if for permission to elaborate.
At times, I would notice that they were conversing internally, but I was now unable to hear them. They must have errected a barrier, which could only mean that they were unsure of me now.
Damd it! I sigh in annoyance.
There was no way, I could inflitrate their minds now without them noticing. It would take me forcing my way in, which they would fight back. Mental telepathy was a complicated process, and I was still learning about each supernatural being own powers.
So far the werewolves seem easier to control.
"It means that there are Lycan Kings in each of the seven continent of the world, who in turn rule over werewolf packs and other supernatural beings," Alex explains to me instead, his face all serious as if divulging a secret.
"Egypt is home of the Lycan King Orion, of the African continent, the city Cairo to be exact," he explains carefully.
"Most humans are not aware of us supernaturals," he elaborates with a shug of his shoulders.
"Well except for the hunters, and a few mated humans" Simone says, her face looking pained.
"Hunters?" I ask, my interest now piqued.
"I will explain, but another time," Alex says, abruptly pushing back his chair, he stands, towering over us.
"But humans do know about your kind, they have made movies about you all," I explain to them.
"No. Ninety nine percent of them don't know anything, and the movies are all based on folklore," Simone informs me patiently as if speaking with a child.
"So I guess I'm in that one percentage of aware humans," I say with a laugh.
"But that is, if you are really human," Simone blurts out, camping a hand over her mouth.
Alex quickly glances at her with a frown etched across his face.
I go still again, unsure of where this was heading.I see them mind-linking again, and it fustrates the life out of me, not knowing.
"But I am a human," I tell them trying to remove any suspision.
They could not know the truth, nobody could. I was not lying. Yet, somehow it felt as if I was.
Why was it so difficult being accepted as human. I was one, after all.
