The sun beat down on the beautiful garden as the wedding party gathered for photos. Emilia, looking every bit the professional in her sleek black dress, efficiently directed everyone into place. Jack, charming as ever in his tailored suit, caught her eye as he joked with the groom.
As they posed for the camera, Emilia found herself standing next to Jack, their arms touching. She felt a spark of awareness at the physical contact, but quickly pushed it aside, focusing on getting the shots they needed.
Jack, however, seemed to be enjoying the proximity, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled at her. "You know, for a Type-A personality, you're not as scary as I thought you'd be," he whispered, his breath tickling her ear.
Emilia rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "And for a charming writer, you're not as smooth as you think you are."
Their banter continued as they took photos, with Jack occasionally making her laugh and Emilia playfully teasing him about his dance moves. As the shoot wrapped up, Emilia felt a sense of relief wash over her. She'd gotten the shots they needed, and she'd even managed to keep her cool around the charming and humorous best man.
But as they were about to disperse, Jack caught her arm and leaned in. "Hey, want to grab a drink with me after this? I'm buying."
Emilia raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. "What makes you think I will say yes?"
Jack grinned. "Because I'm charming, and you're curious."
Emilia couldn't help but laugh at Jack's confidence. "Okay, fine. One drink. But don't expect me to swoon over your charm."
Jack's grin widened. "I wouldn't dream of it."
As the photo shoot wrapped up, Emilia and Jack made plans to meet at a nearby bar. Emilia went home to change, feeling a sense of excitement she hadn't experienced in a while.
At the bar, Jack was already seated at a table, nursing a whiskey on the rocks. He stood up as Emilia approached, his eyes scanning her outfit. "You look stunning," he said, pulling out a chair for her.
Emilia smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. "Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself."
As they ordered drinks and chatted, Emilia found herself opening up to Jack in ways she hadn't expected. They talked about everything from their jobs to their families, and Emilia was surprised by how easy it was to connect with him.
But as the night wore on, Emilia's phone kept buzzing with messages from Rachel, her high-maintenance client. Jack noticed her distraction and raised an eyebrow. "Is everything okay?"
Emilia sighed. "Just work stuff. I have a client who's being...particular."
Jack nodded sympathetically. " I know the feeling. Sometimes I feel like my editor is breathing down my neck."
Emilia laughed. "I think Rachel might be the queen of breathing down people's necks."
As they finished their drinks, Jack walked Emilia out of the bar. "Thanks for tonight," he said, looking down at her. "I had a great time."
Emilia smiled up at him. "Me too... Maybe we can do it again sometime?"
Jack's eyes crinkled at the corners." Hmm, I'd like that."
As they stood outside the bar, the night air was filled with the sound of laughter and music from nearby clubs. Jack and Emilia lingered, neither of them seeming to want the night to end.
"Want to walk with me?" Jack asked, nodding towards the park nearby.
Emilia nodded, and they strolled side by side, the only sound being the crunch of gravel beneath their feet. They talked about everything and nothing, their conversation flowing easily.
As they walked, Jack noticed the way Emilia's eyes sparkled in the moonlight, and he felt a pang of attraction. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt this way about someone.
As they reached the park, Emilia felt a kind of happiness from within.Jack wasn't left out,
Jack turned to Emilia and asked, "Want to grab breakfast with me tomorrow?"
Emilia's smile faltered for a moment, and Jack wondered if he'd misread the situation. But then she nodded, and her smile returned. "I'd like that."
