Chapter 13

During the whole game, Amber kept throwing things at the back of Kyra’s head. Kyra tried to ignore her by trying to figure who the mysterious vampire was last night. For some strange reason Kyra felt a connection with him the moment Kyra locked eyes with the vampire, a profound stillness washed over her. His presence carried a strange, quiet comfort, like the echo of a memory she didn’t know she had. There was no fire, no passion—only an inexplicable sense of safety. Lost in thought she didn’t hear Amber creep up behind her. “I wouldn’t be getting so close to the Alpha if I were you. Rumor has it I’ll be his chosen mate, I was hand picked by the Elders themselves. I also suggest you do as I say and maybe I’ll have mercy on you, you know when I become Luna.” Kyra turned to face Amber who had a snarky smile on her face, “That is if he doesn’t find his second mate, and rumor has it even if he doesn’t find his second mate. He doesn’t want you as his chosen, back the f**k off and leave me alone.” Amber scoffed, “And you think he’ll choose you?! A sick little girl who can’t shift without hurting herself, yea right. You know he’s only nice to you cause he feels bad, and besides if the Elders chose it he has no choice.” Anger started to bubble in Kyra’s chest, she gripped the bleachers not realizing she was bending the bench. Kyra took a deep breath, she tried calming down before she did something that would get her in trouble. “Maybe when I became Luna you can be my pack servant, clean my clothes, my room, cook my meals.. And take care of mine and the Alphas children.” She leaned closer to Kyra’s ear, instinctively Kyra nudged her with her elbow knocking her off her seat. Kyra quickly jumped up and walked off the bleachers before she lost control, Allie quickly followed her. Suddenly Kyra’s senses kicked in, turned her body at the last minute. Just in time to avoid Amber trying to punch her in the back of the head. “You b***h, how dare you push me.” She tried to throw another punch but Kyra effortlessly dodged it. “Amber trust me, you don’t want to do this. I’m already in enough trouble with the food fight, I really don’t want to add a real fight on top of it. Just walk away.” Amber just laughed, “Too late for that, I need to teach you a lesson.” She lunged for Kyra, Kyra sighed and moved to the side. She put her foot out and tripped Amber causing her to face plant in the dirt. A crowd started forming around them now. “Seriously Amber you’re starting to piss me off, stop while you still can.” Amber got up and dusted herself off, “You should have thought about that before you started messing with my man.” She put her fist up and got in a defensive stance. Kyra scoffed, “You are delusional, fine I warned you.” Kyra stood there and waited for Amber to make the first move. Amber went to throw a right hook, Kyra glided out of the way and kicked her in the back of the knee. Amber got back up and tried to go for an uppercut cut, Kyra leaned back just missing Amber fist. Kyra lifted her leg and power kicked Amber in the stomach knocking her to the ground. Amber wheezing struggling to get air back into her lungs. Kyra walked over and offered her hand, “You done?” Amber took her hand and got up, she threw her free fist and hit Kyra in the face. Kyra stood there, there was no mark on her face. Kyra felt the anger in her chest explode, she tried to control it but couldn’t. Amber tried to throw another punch but Kyra grabbed her fist with her hand, she squeezed and twisted Ambers fist. Amber cried out in pain, she looked up at Kyra’s face and Kyra’s eyes were a bright burning burgundy, fear filled Ambers face. Before Amber could plea Kyra punched her in the ribs, then knees her in the face throwing Amber back, landing on her back. Kyra jumped on her and started hitting her in the face, Amber threw her arms up to try and protect her face. “IM SORRY!!!! PLEASE STOP!!!!” Amber screamed over and over, but Kyra couldn’t stop she lost control. She felt someone try and pull her off, without looking she threw her elbow back. She felt it connected with what felt like a face, then she went on beating Ambers face. Then she felt two muscular arms wrap around her and pulled her off Amber, she was about to turn swing until the scent of mahogany and mint took hold of her. The scent instantly calmed her and she could think clearly, when she turned she was face to face with Ryder. Tears started to fill her eyes, she realized what she did and was in a huge amount of trouble. Ryder looked at her with sympathy, Kyra was worried he was angry with her but he wasn’t. Instead he pulled her in and hugged her, he breathed in her scent. “It’s ok, just breathe.” Kyra broke down, she wrapped her arms around Ryder and cried in his chest. Gregory helped Amber up and brought her to his SUV and took her to the hospital. The crowd quickly dispersed when the Alpha arrived to the seen, so it was just Kyra and Ryder. Ryder ran gently caressed the back of Kyra’s neck. “Shh, it’s ok. You’re ok, are you hurt?” Kyra shook her head and caught her breath, “Am I in trouble?” Ryder pressed his lips together, “You’re not in trouble by me, but I can’t speak for the Meyers. They’re going to want some short of punishment.” Tears started swelling up in Kyra’s eyes again, “Uncle Teddy is going to kill me.” Ryder wiped the tears away from Kyra eyes, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it ok. You were only defending yourself like I told you too. Amber left you no choice, between you and me, she had this coming.” Kyra chuckled. Ryder smiled, “There’s that beautiful smile, come on let take you to the hospital to make sure you’re ok too.” “No im fine, can you just take me home and explain what happened? I think my aunt and uncle will be less mad if you told them.” Kyra said using her sleeve to wipe her face. Ryder nodded, “Of course, come on. We unfortunately have to walk since Gregory took the SUV, you did a number on Gregory’s face.” Kyra’s eyes widened Gregory must have been the one who tried to pull her off and she elbowed him in the face. “Oh my God I’m so sorry is he ok?” Ryder laughed, “He’s fine, it honestly took him by surprise. He wasn’t suspecting it to hurt so much, you’re so little but very strong. Where did you learn to fight like that?” Kyra shrugged, she jumped up on a rock wall and balanced flawlessly on it while walking, “I just watched people fight and studied their movements. Honestly that was my first real fight.” Ryder just watched her walked on the wall, they reached the end of the wall. Kyra jumped and flipped her body in the air then landed on her feet perfectly. Ryder looked at her impressed, “Never would have known, so why don’t your aunt and uncle want you standing up for yourself?” Kyra looked down, “Well as you noticed, I have a little.. control problem. I lose control and can’t stop, they noticed this.. behavior when I was little. When I had a temper tantrum they were out of control and it was almost impossible to pull me out of them.” Ryder nodded, “If you don’t mind me asking when did your aunt and uncle take you in? Do you remember your parents?” Kyra took a deep breathe and shook her head, “They took me in when I was just a few days old, I guess my mother died while having me and my father got himself killed shortly after. He couldn’t live with her, I guess the break of the mate bond was too much for him.” Ryder looked down and nodded, he knew exactly how it felt. Kyra covered her mouth, “Oh my God I’m so sorry, I forgot.” Ryder waved his hand, “Don’t be, to be honest when I lost my mate and son it crossed my mind many times to end it. It’s.. an excruciatingly painful experience, both physically and emotionally. It feels as though a vital part of your soul has been violently torn away.” Kyra looked at him with sympathetic eyes, “I’m so sorry, what happened if you don’t mind me asking.” Ryder took a deep breathe, “We were leaving to go to an allied packs new Alpha christening, my mate and I just had our first child, Mark. He was such a good baby, barely cried or fussed, he was just a few weeks old. As we were driving we were ambushed by vampires, they were slaughtered in front me. I survived only because a patrol group passed by at the time, I use to think if they came only a few minutes before they’d still be here.” Ryder felt the cold dagger in his chest, he blinked rapidly to stop the tears from swelling in his eyes. Kyra gently took his hand, sparks tingled up Ryders arm warming his chest. Ryder looked at Kyra, “I’m so sorry Ryder, I can’t imagine what that must feel like.” Ryder gave her a small smile. They finally reached Kyra’s house, Theodore swung open the door. Kyra quickly let go of Ryders hand before her uncle noticed. “I just got a very interesting and angry call from Frank Meyers, care to explain what happened?” Theodore realized Ryder was standing next to Kyra, his eyes widened and he bowed his head quickly. “Alpha, I apologize. What brings you here?” Ryder chuckled, “From what I hear you heard about what happened at the football game. Long story short Kyra was simply defending herself and accidentally lost control. Happens to the best of us, but I just wanted to walk her home safely. And just so you’re aware again Kyra did not start the fight, Amber seems to have a personal vendetta against her for some reason. But I will get to the bottom of it and hopefully this will be the last fight between these too.” Theodore was speechless, “Oh um ok. Um do you have a punishment in mind?” Ryder crossed his arms, “As a matter of fact I do, how does everyday after school you come to the pack house and help me with some things. I have some papers that need organizing and some documents that need to be archived and shredded.” Theodore stuttered, “You don’t have to do that, we can find her a punishment here. That way she’s not in your hair bothering you.” Ryder shook his head, “No bother at all, I insist. Between you and me I hate doing that stuff anyway, this way we can get to know each other as well. What kind of Alpha would I be if I didn’t know my whole pack?” Ryder smiled, Theodore sighed there was no talking him out of it. Theodore nodded in defeat. “Great it’s settled then, Kyra I’ll see you Monday after school then. Theodore have a great night and take it easy on her she’s a good kid.” Ryder bowed and walked away, Kyra and Theodore bowed. Theodore gave Kyra a serious look and said in a low voice, “House now.” Kyra knew she was going to get an earful.
