Ryder sat at his big oak desk siphoning through papers, he stoped at one paper from the High Elders. He took a deep irritated breath, it read “Dear Alpha Ryder Knox of the Bloodstone pack, I hope this letter finds you well. In the coming weeks we will be visiting to see how you’ve made progress on finding a second mate. I need not to remind you the importance of this matter, or the significance of having an heir to carry on your leadership and legacy. The full moon is approaching and a new batch of fresh she-wolves will be turning eighteen, one of them should be a suitable companion. ~Elder Rodrick” Ryder crumbled up the paper and threw it across the room, he took off his reading glasses. He rubbed his hands up and down his face, pulling at his beard. “Another lovely letter from our friends?” Ryder looked to the door, it was his Beta Gregory. He was tall and muscular with dark brown hair, he had a few wrinkles on his leather tan skin but was still fairly handsome. Ryder cracked a small smile, “Yeah, our buddies the Elders, they’ll be stopping by within the next couple of weeks to see if I have a mate yet.” Gregory looked at him and shrugged, “I mean you can’t really blame them for being worried. Your going to be 50 within a few days,” Course looking at Ryder you wouldn’t believe it, he was tall and muscular. He has rugged, masculine features with a strong jawline and defined cheekbones. His dirty blond hair is thick and styled back with a bit of texture, giving him a slightly disheveled yet purposeful look. His facial hair is a bit scruffy, framing his mouth and chin, adding to his rugged charm. His blue eyes are striking against his facial features, giving him an intense, brooding expression, yet there’s a softness around his eyes that hints at a deeper, more introspective side. “Not to mention the Crimson Dawn pack have been bugging them for years to take over our pack. And you know the Elders don’t want to do that, but will if they have to.” Ryder sighed, he knew he was right. Alpha Adam of the Crimson Dawn has been trying to get his hand on the Bloodstone Pack since Ryder lost his family thirty years ago. The pain was still fresh in Ryders heart, he lost his mate and his only son in a vampire attack. “Yeah I know, but he wants me to choose from the youngbloods. And I don’t know that’s just sick to me, their baby’s in eyes.” Ryder said with a look of disgust. Gregory scoffed, “You’re the only man I know who would turn down a fresh, hot, young she-wolf. It’s literally every middle aged man’s dream, and I know Kari would want you to be happy.” A twinge of pain went through Ryders chest when Gregory said that name. “You didn’t just lose a mate and son that night, I lost a sister and nephew too. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of them but I know for a fact that she wouldn’t want you wallowing. She’d want you to live your life and be happy, she’d also want you to protect this pack as well.” Ryder knew he was right, he nodded his head. “Fine, I’ll try to find a second mate at the full moon celebration. But no promises!” Gregory chuckled, “Good, oh and Theodore arrived with his family. They should be making their way up to the pack house any minute, why were they coming back again?” Ryder push his chair back and stood, “Something about needing protection for his sick niece, something about their old Alpha was obsessed over her. I don’t know but we could use him around here since Frank passed away, we need a new doctor and from what I could remember he was a damn good one.” Gregory shrugged. They walked out of the office and down the hall, the pack house had a cabin style and lodge architecture look to it. With large windows letting the natural sunlight in, it sat up on a hill over looking the territory. Ryder and Gregory walked out of the Alphas quarters and pass the library, they came to an open stair way that lead to the main common room. Theodore and his family were sitting patiently on the big grey couch in front of the giant stone fireplace. “Theodore you mangy mutt, how long has it been?” Gregory said holding his arms out for a bear hug. Theodore jumped up and laughed embracing his long time friend, “To long, you remember Sally?” Sally smiled and shook Gregory’s big hand, he slowly pulled her in for a gentle hug. “Of course I remember Sally, who can forget that beautiful face. Still look young as ever.” Ryder chuckled and shook his head, Theodore turned his gaze to Ryder and cleared his throat, he and Sally bowed their heads in respect. Theodore glanced over to Kyra still sitting on the couch watching the flames from the fire place, he tapped her in the shoulder. She jumped up and bowed her head clearing her throat. “My old friend you don’t need to bow come here.” Ryder said walking up meeting Theodore half way. “Who’s this beautiful young woman?” Gregory asked looking at Kyra. “This is Kyra my niece.” When Kyra looked up Ryder locked eyes with her, she was gorgeous. He’s never seen such a beautiful creature, he felt a spark in his chest trying to ignite. Theodore motioned for her to come over and shake Ryders hand. Kyra felt her heart skip a beat, she couldn’t remember how to move her feet. “Kyra, come over here and shake his hand.” Kyra just stood there, her brain was screaming to her body to move but didn’t respond, this was the most beautiful man she’s ever seen. Sally gave Kyra a little nudge reminding her how to walk again, Kyra slowly walked up to them. Her heart was beating so loud it sounded like drums in her ears, she was worried it was beating so loud that the whole room could hear it. “Hello Kyra,” The way he said her name almost made her melt, she felt a warmth building up in her chest. “I’m Alpha Ryder.” He held out his hand, Kyra caught a whiff of his scent. Mahogany and mint, the scent caused the warmth in her chest to explode, she felt the heat creep up her neck and down to her stomach. She swallowed hard, “He..hello Alpha Ryder.” Ryder felt the same sensation, the spark in his chest ignited into a warmth radiating in his chest when she spoke his name. Her voice was smooth like silk. She reached out and slid her little hand into his big strong hand, as soon as their hands touch a tingling sensation radiated up their arms. Almost like an electric shock mixed with pleasure, they both looked at their hands. Ryder thought it was funny how little her hand was compared to his, he looked past their hands and studied the rest of her body. She had on a loose long sleeve shirt but he can still see that she had a very tight petite body. She had perfect perky breast that were just the right size, he made his way down to her hips. She wore tight dark blue jeans that hugged every curve, she had nice thighs that were thick like honey. Ryder couldn’t help but think if they were as sweet as they looked. Ryder cleared his throat and thought to himself that she’s just a child, not realizing Kyra was doing the same thing. She too was looking him up and down studying his features, imagining what lays underneath his clothes. They let go of each other’s hands, Ryder turned to look at Theodore hoping he didn’t notice that he was eye f*****g his niece. “Theo, how do you like the house?” Theodore was to busy looking around the common room, “Oh it’s beautiful thank you, when we get all settled in we’ll have to invite you over for dinner.” Kyra bit her lip, What about this would be the only time we’ll be face to face with the alpha!? She screamed in her head, she was fight the urge to move closer to him and breath in his scent some more. It was so intoxicating, she wanted to bury her face in his strong muscular chest. She imagined laying naked in a bed, her body tangled up in his. Kyra forgot how to breathe for a moment thinking about Alpha Ryder naked, saliva pooled up in her mouth at the thought of it, she forgot how to swallow. Her lungs started to ache, instead of swallowing she inhaled. All the saliva pooled in her mouth was carried into her lungs, causing her to choke on it. Kyra started coughing violently, “Oh my, you alright darling?” Ryder said concerned. Fuck, why did he have to call me darling. Kyra thought causing another wave of heat to radiate through her body. “Yes she’s fine, it’s part of the sickness.” Theodore said to the Alpha. Kyra’s eyes widened, Why the f**k did he have to say that!? The pleasure that was pulse though her body quickly turned to embarrassment, she almost thought about throwing herself in the fireplace. “Come on sweetheart let’s get you home to rest.” Sally said taking Kyra by the arm and leading her out the main doors. Ryder didn’t want her to leave, he wanted to get to know her more. He watched as they walked to the door, he couldn’t help but look at her backside. She had the perfect bubble butt, it was tight and round. Ryder imagine resting his head on it, he felt a wave of heat radiate down to his stomach. He shook his head snapping out of it, maybe it was a good thing they left he thought to himself. Kyra slowly caught her breath doing small coughs in between, she managed to look back before the doors closed to meet Ryders gaze. He gave her a sexy wink, igniting the warmth in her chest again.
