For once Kyra’s day was actually peaceful, Amber was still at the hospital healing, some people gave her dirty looks and others gave her a thumbs up.
The final bell rang,
“You start your ‘punishment’ today at the pack house don’t you.”
Allie said with a smirk.
Kyra closed her locker and made I face,
“Yea, I need to help organize papers.”
Allie giggled,
“Yea but you’ll be with the Alpha, you’re living every girls dream here. Do you know what they would do to switch places with you right now?! I would have kicked Ambers ass long ago if it meant being alone with the Alpha.”
Kyra scoffed and threw her backpack over her shoulder.
“You know, I think the Alpha has a thing for you.”
Allie said smiling.
“Yea right.”
Kyra said walking to the doors.
“Seriously, I’ve never seen him like this around anyone. He seems happier since you’ve arrived, he’s more active, he use to just handle things from inside the pack house but now he’s.. I don’t know but he seems different when he’s around you.”
Kyra placed her hand on the door and looked at Allie,
“I think you imagining things.”
Kyra opened the door, she stopped dead in her tracks. Ryder was standing outside, he wore a textured brown tweed vest with black pocket accents, paired with a dark green button-up shirt with rolled-up sleeves for a relaxed yet polished look. It is complemented by dark faded blue jeans secured with a brown buck belt.
He leaned casually against the Shelby, one foot crossed over the other, hands tucked into his pockets. The posture is relaxed yet confident, with a subtle tilt of the head and an intense, brooding gaze that captures a mix of nonchalance and defiance.
Kyra noticed he trimmed up his hair and cleaned up his facial hair, she felt waves of heat flow around her body down between her legs.
Ryder flashed a smile,
“Come on trouble maker, we have a lot of work to do.”
Allie nudged Kyra in the side, Kyra forgot she was there.
“See, he’s never done this. Now go don’t keep him waiting.”
She whispered, pushing Kyra to move.
Kyra walked up to Ryder, her heart was beating so loud she couldn’t hear anything else. Ryder opened the door for her, Kyra slid in the seat and placed her backpack by her feet.
Ryder closed the door and walked around to the drivers side.
They drove up to the pack house, he parked the car in the garage. Kyra went to throw her backpack over her shoulder but Ryder grabbed it,
“Here let me take it.”
They walked through the common room where Kyra first met Ryder, the memory caused Kyra’s cheeks to turn red. Kyra followed Ryder up the stairs and down the hall to his office. He placed Kyra’s backpack by the door and pulled out a chair in front of his desk, he motioned for her to sit.
She sat down and studied the room, the wall behind Ryders desk was nothing but shelves with trophies, small statues, books and other trinkets. Opposite of Ryders desk was a wall with a fax machine, copier, scanner and other office equipment. The in-between wall was just one big window over looking the whole town, Kyra walked up to the window. Beyond the cement wall was miles of forest and snow covers mountains, it was beautiful.
Ryder stood in the middle of the room with his hands in his pocket, watching Kyra admire the scenery.
“Alaska’s beautiful isn’t it, you guys are originally from New York right.”
Kyra turned around, the way Ryder stood made her body heat up. He stood so confidently and strong, Kyra had the urge to walk over and rub her hands all over him.
Kyra cleared her throat,
“Yea, we lived in the city. Instead of tall trees they had tall buildings, it’s a hell of a lot more peace out here too.” Kyra looked around,
“So what kind of work do you have for me to do?”
Ryder chuckled,
“Well not much today, I thought we could take this time and get to know each other better. I mean it’s my job as Alpha to know everyone who enters my pack, I already know Theo and Sally.” Ryder softened his face, “I want to get to know you now.”
Kyra’s heart raced, she didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t tell him that she’s a hybrid on the run from a deranged psychopath who wants to use her to build an army, what would he think.
Kyra hesitated,
“There’s really nothing to know, I’m nothing special.”
Ryder furrowed his brow,
“Nonsense, you are very special Kyra, you just don’t know it yet.” Ryder slowly moved closer, Kyra slowly backed up against the window, “You might not believe this but I was young once.”
Ryder stopped in front of her, leaving only a few inches between them.
Kyra smirked,
“You young once, I don’t buy it.”
Ryder chuckled and nodded his head,
“Yea it’s true, I was a teenager once. I was young and stupid, trying to find my place in the world. Back then I didn’t think I would make a good Alpha, I was worried I wasn’t strong or smart enough. Growing up everyone told me what to do, what not to do. My advice, don’t listen to anyone. Listen to your heart, the Moon Goddess speaks to us through our hearts. You are very special Kyra, don’t let anyone tell you different.”
Ryder looked at Kyra with dark eyes, her scent was swimming around his head. He had the intense urge to kiss her full plump lips and place his hand all over her body.
Kyra thought her heart was going to explode, it was beating so hard. Ryders scent was getting stronger and stronger, she wanted to grab him, pull his face to hers.
“Am I interrupting something?”
A woman stood in the doorway, she had a refined, elegant face with high cheekbones, a defined jawline, and expressive almond-shaped eyes. Her golden blonde hair frames her face softly, adding a timeless and sophisticated aura to her look. Her voice was smooth and refined, carrying a natural elegance with a slightly husky undertone.
Ryder quickly turned,
“Ah, mother. I didn’t know you arrived.”
MOTHER!?
Kyra’s eyes widened, there’s no way that’s his mother. She looked so young, if he was about to be fifty then she has to be at lease seventy.
She wore a crisp white button-up shirt with rolled-up sleeves, tucked into a sleek black pencil skirt. A wide, dark belt with a prominent buckle cinches the waist, emphasizing a polished silhouette.
“Well I got an unpleasant call from Kitty, she was all upset about how some new member beat her granddaughter into the hospital. To be quite honest I tried my hardest not to laugh, little brat was surely going to get her ass beat one of these days. But nevertheless she was all distraught and begged me to come up early, so here I am.”
Kyra just stood there in disbelief, looking at Ryder standing near her. Kyra started to see the similarities.
Ryder grunted,
“Yea, it’s taken care of. Hopefully Amber will stop picking fights with the wrong people, right Kyra.”
Kyra snapped her head to Ryder she stuttered,
Then just nodded her head.
The woman looked Kyra up and down studying her,
“Is this the one who did it? Come here child let me get a good look at you.”
Kyra hesitated and looked at Ryder, he nodded and motioned for her to come closer.
Kyra moved to the middle of the room, Ryders mother circled her like a vulture studying her.
“Are you sure she was the culprit? The Meyers are a very strong house, almost evenly matched with us. What house is she from?”
Kyra’s breath quickened, she felt a panic attack coming.
Ryder smirked at Kyra’s reaction,
“She’s Theodore and Sally’s niece, they came back seeking refuge from their old Alpha.”
Ryders mother raised an eyebrow,
“I didn’t know Theo or Sally had siblings, but then again both their parents had a few secrets. Specially Theo, possible he had a brother or sister out of wedlock. But still, their houses aren’t that strong. There must be something special about you then little one or you just got very damn lucky.”
Ryders mother walked over to the mini bar and poured herself a drink.
“I have a feeling you came back early for other reasons, not just to console old lady Kathryn.”
She took a sip from her drink,
“I got another interesting call, one who we should talk about in private.”
Kyra noticed her eyes glazed over, so was Ryders. They were mind-linking, Ryder tensed his face cleared his throat.
“Sorry Kyra we’re going to have to postpone your punishment til tomorrow. Gregory will give you a ride home, I’ll pick you up same time tomorrow.”
Kyra nodded,
“Goodnight Ryder.”
And she ran out the door.
