does not seem to fit in with the rest of the magical physics of the world.
nameless-npc (Generica II): That's because it doesn't. Summoning magic is a feature of the multiverse generally, not of individual universes.
IGotABook (Avitria): Does that mean summoning magic can be performed from any universe?
nameless-npc (Generica II)): Yes... and no. Theoretically you can get a summoning circle working from even a magic-less reality like the one you came from, but in practice, the requirements are just too high. That's why you generally only see summoning in magic-positive universes, where there's a little more leeway when it comes to physics.
IGotABook (Avitria): What sorts of requirements need to be met?
nameless-npc (Generica II): That's something you'd need to ask Spoon about. I'm no expert, just sort of an enthusiast, you could say.
nameless-npc (Generica II): Anyway, I've got to get going. Got a date with my girlfriend! See you later!
IGotABook (Avitria): Goodbye.
======= Today =======
IGotASword (Avitria): another busy day over!!! boy, this hero stuff is a lot of work!!!
Whatsamana (Earth Q): if it weren't, nobody'd be summoning heroes to do it
IGotASword (Avitria): that's true!!! why do all these dimensions need to summon heroes from somewhere else so often?
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): It varies from dimension to dimension, but teh most common reason is a "demon lord" level threat. Cross-dimensional heroes often come with unique abilities that make them more powerful than a typical hero, but teh requirements to perform the summoning are such that it's usually considered a drastic measure.
IGotASword (Avitria): dr spoon!!! i didn't know you were a summoned hero!!!
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): I'm not, actually. Access to all channels is just one of teh perks of being a mod.
IGotASword (Avitria): aw i was hoping you were
IGotASword (Avitria): i suppose next you're gonna tell me you're not a real doctor!!!
Whatsamana (Earth Q): she's not a doctor
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Oh dear, I hope I haven't disillusioned you, Sword.
IGotASword (Avitria): nah i'm just playing!!! but just how many summoned heroes are on the server?
Whatsamana (Earth Q): tons and tons
Whatsamana (Earth Q): you and book, modus, nameless, though he's sort of a special case
IGotASword (Avitria): aren't summonings pretty special by default?
Whatsamana (Earth Q): multiversally speaking summonings are common as dirt
IGotASword (Avitria): what was special about his summoning then?
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): There were... circumstances around his summoning. You'll want to ask him about it if you want to know teh details.
nameless-npc (Generica II): You can go ahead and reveal my backstory, I don't mind.
IGotASword (Avitria): nameless!!! i hope your date went well!!!
nameless-npc (Generica II): Did Book tell you about that? Well, of course it went great, but since you asked about it...
Whatsamana (Earth Q): nobody asked
Whatsamana (Earth Q): literally nobody asked
IGotASword (Avitria): i can ask if you want me to!!!
Whatsamana (Earth Q): no spoon was just about to tell us a story
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Oh, yes. You don't mind, Nameless?
nameless-npc (Generica II): Not at all.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Very well then.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Sword, I presume you are familiar with what a "video game" is?
IGotASword (Avitria): oh yeah!!!
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Good, we can skip that explanation.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Unfortunately we don't know teh exact cause, but it seems that at some point a "handheld video game console" found its way from an Earth-class dimension to teh world of Generica.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): You may not be aware, but apart from summonings, there are very strict rules regarding teh transfer of material between dimensions, and this is one example of why.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): By chance, teh console was picked up by an impressionable individual. It seems he played through a significant portion of teh RPG that came with teh console, before teh battery died.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): This individual seems to have taken teh wrong lesson from the game, and ultimately built an influential cult based around teh villain.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Teh cult eventually succeeded in performing a ritual that drew said villain out of teh game, resulting in teh birth of Generica's first demon lord.
IGotASword (Avitria): i think i see where this is going but i have a question
IGotASword (Avitria): isn't nameless from "generica the second"?
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Yes, I was just getting to that.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): You may not know this, but summonings actually have ripple effects on a universal scale, in order to ensure that the summoned being can properly exist. For a typical summoning, these “ripples” are negligible, as teh summoned being is usually from a similar dimension, at least in terms of physics and such.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): But teh demon lord was summoned from a video game, not a universe! Teh ritual not only created a demon lord, but also fundamentally altered teh very fabric of teh world, bringing it more in line with the world from the game.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Needless to say it was a violent, turbulent time.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Eventually teh laws of teh world settled into their current arrangement. What remained was no longer "Generica," exactly, and so teh dimension was reclassified as “Generica II.”
nameless-npc (Generica II): Which brings us to my era.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Yes. Teh game that started all of this still remained in teh world as a holy artifact. It changed hands several times, before ending up under teh ownership of a kingdom desperately trying to resist teh vicious hordes of teh demon lord.
IGotASword (Avitria): so they summoned the hero from the game to fight the demon!!!
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Well... they tried to.
drSpoon (Heart of Magic): Teh spell... misfired. Or perhaps teh casters were simply confused? Either way, instead of summoning teh hero, they summoned...
nameless-npc (Generica II): A nameless NPC.
IGotASword (Avitria): your username was literal???
nameless-npc (Generica II): Oh yeah they screwed that one up real bad.
nameless-npc (Generica II): For the longest time I couldn't even talk properly. All I knew how to say was "Welcome to Corneria!" over, and over, and over again.
nameless-npc (Generica II): So there was a bit of an adjustment period.
IGotASword (Avitria): that's existentially terrifying
nameless-npc (Generica II): It's not that terrible. As you can see, I've managed to become a perfectly functional member of society, a competent hero, and a stellar boyfriend.
Whatsamana (Earth Q): facts not in evidence
nameless-npc (Generica II): The point is... what was the point again?
IGotASword (Avitria): video games bad?
Whatsamana (Earth Q): don't start a cult that ends the world
IGotASword (Avitria): obsessing over video games might cause the apocalypse!!!
Whatsamana (Earth Q): always double check your summoning circles
