Hugh! Why did they have to have a concert on my farewell tour to the universe? I was about to be killed and they were f*****g celebrating! Three thousand years on this planet were about to go up in flames and f*****g BTS, was having a f*****g concert in the middle of f*****g Seoul, while I was paying my f*****g respect to my stupid home country on my way to the gallows. Did they not know I was about to get murdered soon? Ronan, my best friend, and would-be-killer, had been keeping careful and regular tabs on me for the past year. He was a thousand years older than me but also a bit of a sociopath with masochistic tendencies, so, despite the fact that he hadn't found his mate, either he was perfectly fine, dickhead! He knew my sanity was slipping, the same way I knew I wasn't for this world for much longer.
My grip on my humanity was tenuous at best, I was currently fighting the desire to behead every one of the thousands of people crowding around me. I could feel my nails turning into claws already, and I tried to breathe through my anger while I hurried off the streets. I was dodging bodies, run-walking to the hotel I could see five hundred meters away when I felt a small hand grab my thumb from behind, stopping me dead in my tracks. I snapped around surprised, this couldn't have happened. I was a mighty Griffin, no supernatural could ever stop my momentum. The best they could do was hang on while I dragged them along and this hand I knew from its grasp belonged to a child. I looked down expecting a baby Griffin or any other supernatural, but it was human. It looked like a nine-year-old. I stared into his eyes looking for latent powers and that's when I felt it. The pain that had been my constant companion left. The constriction around my heart eased and I could finally breathe. This tiny bit of human right here was my f*****g soulmate!
Ii groaned at The Fate's habit of throwing wrenches at perfectly good things. I'd found my soulmate, so yeah, no more dying for me. Alas, said soulmate was a child, so more waiting. I swear if I could find those three bitches I would cleave out their spinster insides.
So I was looking at my mate with a mix of relief and anger while he smiled up at me when some African lady ran up to us and snatched him away from me. I dropped my claws, moving to s***h her neck when he spoke.
-Mama look, I found my friend! My hand turned back to human and I relaxed my stance so I didn't come off as combative to the mother. She must have thought I was about to hurt her son.
- Kian, you can't just run away from me like that, I thought I lost you!
-but I saw my friend, she was leaving.
- that is a grown-ass woman. She is not your friend
- she too is my friend!
-she's... ma'am do you speak English? she asked, speaking into her phone that translated her words in Korean.
-Yes, I do. and he wasn't bothering me at all. You have quite the little boy!
- thank you, we will let you go on I have to find my friend. She has the twins. The minute Kian heard the word leave he threw himself at me, his pudgy hands clenching my leather jacket, screaming bloody murder. his mother started apologizing profusely while she tried to pry him away from me.
-you know what, why don't I just hang on to him while we look for your friend? I said, relieved he had given me an excuse to tag along without looking like a weirdo.
-I'm sure you have better things to do.
-I honestly don't, I was just trying to get away from this crush and grab some food while I wait for the crowd to thin out. This is not an imposition at all.
- Are you sure?
-Yes, I have absolutely nothing better to do with my life. Where is your friend waiting?
- she should be by that Starbucks
-then lead the way. My name is Julie, by the way.
-I'm Marissa, the guy in your arms right now is...
-Kian, I remember. I said I don't think I will ever forget that name for as long as I live. Nice to meet you both.
She hesitated to walk in front, and I could tell she was wondering how to politely ask me to walk in from of her, so I smiled down at her. I was pretty tall for a woman almost 5"11, and nodded at her reassuringly. I hoped and walked toward the only Starbucks I could see. She followed me very closely. I would be twice as protective if I'd had a child.
Kian had calmed down quite a bit when it looked like I wasn't going anywhere. He lay his head on my shoulder, his nose flushed against my neck. He was sniffing at my neck, he was quite the insightful little boy. Customarily, mated pairs, after finding each other, would sniff at each other's necks, and right after they recognized the mate's scent, the first bite would follow. I will probably have to explain that custom to him when he is older. Even if I knew he was my mate, he should be allowed to live a normal life before I burdened him with the supernatural.
I gasped really loudly, falling to my knees when I felt tiny human teeth bite hard into my jugular, drawing blood. Well f**k, the council was wrong. The biting was instinctual after all. I resisted the urge to bite him back. stupid first bite was quickly followed by a night of hardcore s*x and that would be mighty wrong with a toddler. I quite literally shuddered at the thought. His mother was trying to peak, wondering what was wrong, when I threw a charm around us that made people not notice us. I waited for him to be done, and I could get my feet back under me. I waited for the wound on my neck to have healed and I was vertical again, to lift the charm. Marissa had been running back and forth between us and the cafe, and the charm had been thrown in haste while I was fighting against fate and my nature, so my spell didn't go beyond making people not see us and stay away. So she was stuck in a sort of limbo between looking for her son, and remembering she had found him. When the charm dropped she rushed back to my side worried.
- What just happened? she asked, her eyes running all over us checking for something amiss.
-I fell and got turned around a bit in this crowd, sorry if I worried you, but let us hurry out of this crush. We moved together and found her friend. She was another African lady, they both seemed to be in their early thirties. The friend was holding two strollers, one double with two babies strapped in and another one fit for a toddler, empty. That's probably where Kian was before he jumped out to follow after me. I wonder how he was able to see me, there were so many people! However that was possible, I thanked the stars for the blessing. I really didn't want to die,
