Tales

We took our time walking to the garden on the north side. It was my favorite of the four that I had. My castle might be a little big for some people's taste, but I could care less what others thought. It was my area, not theirs. I had slid my hand in her at some point. I was quite shocked at how perfect our hands met, and how nice it felt to hold hers. Alona looked up and smiled at me. "I guess I should thank you. The tour was very nice. So, thank you." I sense an underlying something in her words but think nothing of it. All that mattered at this moment was her eyes. They sparkled brightly against her mocha skin. They were a deep, deep emerald. Her face showed years of labor, but in a good way. "Adonis?" "Hm? Oh, apologies." "It's alright. So, could you tell me about yourself? I would like to know about the man keeping me." "Hm. I suppose I could. Come let's sit." I lead her over to a small bench overlooking a beautiful fountain. "What would you like to know, little one?" "First, why do you insist on calling me little one. I am a grown woman and do not like to be seen as a child." I laugh slightly and it surprised me. I don't remember the last time I laughed. "You see, dear Alona, to me you are still a mere child. I happen to be well over the age of six hundred. Around six hundred and fifty-three to be exact. So your human age is but that of a child to me. That is why you are still a little one, plus you are much smaller than I." She stares off at the fountain, the words sinking in for her. "You are quite older than me. Six hundred, wow. You've seen quite a bit of the world, right?" "Yes, I suppose I have. It's beautiful." "I imagine. Could you tell me who was that woman yesterday?" I sigh, knowing this would come up. I put my elbow on my knee and held my head, "That was my ex-fiancé. She is a wicked woman who will never be trusted again. She tried to kill me because her father wanted her to marry me for glory and expansion of his name. Attatrix has a twisted mind and thought that I would be horrible for and to her so she thought she would kill me, rob me of everything and take the glory for herself the night of our wedding. She had spoken with Rix to set up some dragons' bane poison in my drink for the celebration afterwards only for Rix to come to me and inform me. I managed to have the antidote stashed away for the humans who try to take over occasionally, never thinking I'd use it for protection against a woman. My drink was poisoned and I felt the effects but survived thanks to Rix. I stood in front of everyone gathered at the party, and explained with Atta did. I showed everyone what a vile woman Attatrix was and tossed her out, leaving her with nothing." "That is.. shocking, I suppose. The fact you let her live. She tried to kill you, and yet you practically did nothing." "She is too well known. We had other more important things going on at the same time anyway. It's much more torture for her to see me thrive while she cannot get anyone to help her." "So, your punishment for her is life?" "In a way, I suppose it is. Is there anything else you would care to know?" "Why humans? Are there not any female dragons you could be with? Someone closer to your age, perhaps?" "The chances of a female dragon are one in ten. There are about two hundred dragons in this area. The females saw how I treated Attatrix after everything she had done to me, and refuse to interact with me. To them, I'm in the wrong and I should take her back. Humans are much easier, feed them, clothe them, lavish them, give them anything they want and they bend over any time you ask." "Well, I won't. I am not some materialistic girl that you can give me things and I do as you ask. I don't require much to live and do not need a man to help." "I will keep that in mind as you are lavished like queen every night from now until I say otherwise." "That will not make your slave or servant or whatever you want. I worked hard in my few years of living to get myself to where I am and I will not let some egotistical man take that from me with some pretty jewels or exotic foods." "I see." "I am heading back to my chamber now. I've grown bored with this." "You will not give orders to me. I say when you go back, not you." Alona hmpfs at me and crosses her arms like the child she is, but obeys and does not make an action to move. "Is there anything else you would care to know?" I ask her. "No, I know everything I need too. You're egotistical and self-centred. You only care about yourself, not your race or the people you scare into submission." "Oh my dear, the submission is by their own accord. Do I scare them? I indeed do, but they so choose to do as I ask of them instead of revolting. With how many people I care for, enough of them could plot against me and take me. I'm not who I used to be." "Ha! You care for people? I'll believe it when I've seen it. You keep prisoners, not companions. You use women for your own pleasure, as mere objects, not the humans they are. Humans are disposable to you! Well, I'm not!" Anger and hatred lace her words, dripping of so heavy I could catch it with my hand. "I never said you were, Alona. Why are you so angry with me?" "Just forget it, may I leave?" "Yes, if you are hungry, let Rix know. They'll take care of it, whatever you'd like you may have." She stays silent as she storms off, her fists balled up beside her. What did I do?
