I was surprised by Luke’s invitation, but I gladly accepted it. Dad was gone for the whole day, and he might even stay in Nashville overnight. Emergencies like these happened often, and other doctors in different states called Dad when there was something they couldn’t take care of themselves.
Dad had several licenses in five states, so he was allowed to work out of Kentucky too. He was a great surgeon. Once, I was playing outside, climbing trees and trying to find bird nests and squirrels.
