CHAPTER 4: The no nonsense CEO

1166 Words
Aldo offered Sarah a ride to town. Of course, she accepted it, it’s not like she had another means of getting there. There was so much work to be done, she was quite proud of herself for getting this far. Without, you know, breaking down. She tried her best, it was her bestie’s wedding after all. The car ride took almost two hours and the whole time Sarah was going over her duties in her head trying to create the schedule in her mind and get things in order. The man sited next to her, Aldo, was quite busy himself; staring endlessly at his tablet. Seemed to be going over some work. Sarah stopped for a moment. He was so focused, if she stole a glance he wouldn’t notice, would he? She took one look, just one look, and quickly retracted her gaze. He was too beautiful, too much to comprehend with just one glance so she looked again. Unfortunately, the second time wasn’t as stealthy as she had hoped it would be. Their eyes suddenly met, caught up in a super-tense atmosphere. There was no way to look away. She suddenly felt like a child who had been caught doing something bad. Then his lips parted and he said a few words, none that she heard. She was completely mesmerized and chose to indulge in the sensations around her. His brown eyes, the perfect nose bridge, lips that were just the right size shape and plumpness, a chiseled chin, prominent cheek bones and such a defined jawline. His face was enough. Why did his body also have to be so good? And as if those were not enough, his composure, his aura, all the tiny gestures he made –there was no denying the fact that this man was fine. As he spoke, she watched his Adam’s apple bob up and down, his lips slowly opened and closed and his sexy voice carried an inaudible charm. He was audible enough. She could not hear him though. This thirsty woman was focused on other things until she heard him call out her name. “Sarah?” he said with slightly furrowed brows. She had been looking at him the whole time but he felt like she wasn’t listening. “Huh? Yea?” she quickly snapped out of her dazed state, hoping she wasn’t caught. Too late sweetie. “I asked when you would be done today. Do you need a ride to your hotel afterwards? I can one of my drivers to come pick you up, just to make sure you are safe.” “Oh, no need for that. I’ll be just fine. Thank you for bringing me all the way here. I’m truly grateful.” She just realized the car had stopped and she was in front of the Canossa’s family house. “It was my pleasure. Enjoy your day.” He said, smiling with his eyes. “I’ll try. Enjoy yours too. It was nice meeting you Mr. Accardi.” She said with a quick smile as the driver opened her door. She stepped out and waved at the vanishing car. Taking a deep breath, she rang the bell and, shortly after, the gate was open. “Well, here goes nothing” she thought to herself as she walked into the formidable building. On the other end of the city, a black Benz drives into the parking lot of a huge building. About a dozen people wait patiently as the man in the passenger seat gets out of the car. With a bow, they all greet him in unison. Not a word escaped his lips. He starts walking towards the elevator and the people behind him follow him cautiously. A young woman quickly goes over what seems to be his schedule for the day. His face remains expressionless as he listens to her speak. The little secretary struggles to keep up with his long strides. By the time his steps came to a halt in front of the elevator, her breath is heavy and uneven. Without looking at her, he says, “you should work out more, you look like you are about to faint. Unless you expect me to slow down for you.” He said the last part with a dangerous look in his eyes. She could sense it in his voice and quickly responded. “Not at all sir, I’ll take care of it.” she had been working here for 8 months. That is longer than the last secretary and the one before that. It was said that working for him was extremely difficult, but so far she had done her best because she couldn’t afford to lose her job. She quickly regained her composure and as soon as the elevator opened she motioned for him to get in and followed along with a bodyguard. The rest of the guards took the stairs. They walked through a corridor into the chairman’s office. The secretary took her seat at the desk outside and the guard stood beside the door after opening it for the chairman of, A.S.R group of, enterprises, Aldo Accardi to walk in. Lana, the secretary, could sense that the air round her boss was different today almost like he was in a good mood. That was indeed rare, this man’s temperament was like the weather in Antarctica, cold and f*****g pissed all year round. Was the sun about to shine in the North Pole? The thought made her shiver. Today it seemed not only Lana could tell the difference in his comportment. Even the executives and team leaders who had meetings with him today found him particularly bearable. There was a lot of chatter about it during lunch. Some speculated that he had fallen in love. Others said he must have been impressed with the year’s revenue quota. Yet a few said he may have been diagnosed with a fatal illness and was trying to make merits before his death. Whatever the case, their no-nonsense CEO seemed to be in an undeniable good mood today. Somehow, instead of putting everyone at ease, his changed bearing seemed to cause a great deal of uneasiness amongst the workers. Everyone was on their toes. Who knows why he’s so happy or when his mood will change again? No one would want to upset him on such a good day. Through the ruckus he had caused, our CEO sat comfortably in his office thinking about the sweet nothings that were whispered into his ears last night. It was already mid-July and summertime temperatures were soaring. In this air-conditioned luxury of an office, Aldo’s mind continued to linger and dwell on those thoughts so much so that he couldn’t focus on work anymore. What was she doing? Did she have lunch yet? Was she properly shaded from the scorching sun? Should he text her? Would she find that weird? These questions lingered on his mind until he came up with a solution.
