Packs and Dreams

1120 Words
Three long years have passed now; I have grown up a lot in that time maturing into my own as the alpha of my wolves. Enduring the first harsh winter losing some of our strongest really kicked me into gear 'cause I wasn't going to lose any more wolves at least not while I was in charge. Slowly I stopped using my voice and communicated only through grunts and growls and relying on body language for the rest. After that first year, I started to have one or two of us stay with those that couldn't hunt while the rest of us went out; it was a constant rotation but it worked. I was happy with what I had accomplished my pack has doubled in size because of my leadership in a word we were thriving. Only thing was that as the years went by I watched as my pack members grow up with me and find their mates. Longing for that special someone more and more often had me lost in thought. No matter how much I thought about it I knew it wouldn't happen I was the lone werewolf among the wolves. ----- ------ ----- ---- -------- ---- ------- ------ ------ Waking as the sun crested on the horizon I quickly got my hunting party ready and shifted into my wolf taking off running through the crisp morning air. Travelling through the dense forest we moved with ease this was our home we were one with the forest. Racing through the trees the winds entwining itself with my fur sending tingles down my spine taking in the musky scent of dried leaves and morning dew. I relished in the run my heart beating in time with the crunch of leaves under my paws. We were making good time, I'd already sent a few of them back to the den with their fresh kills. Shortly after they disappeared into the foliage it hit me. It came out of nowhere the most luxurious scent a musky wood and orange mixture. Halting in mid-stride I lifted my muzzle trying to pinpoint where it was coming from. Suddenly there he was a grey-black wolf that looked almost silver as the sunlight glistened off his fur. Hesitantly I took a step towards the wolf he wasn't one of mine yet I was drawn to him I needed to be with him with every fibre of my being. My wolves stood around me anxious for my command but I was frozen in place I could not believe what was happening before my eyes. He shifted into a human and quickly clothed himself before walking towards me. I felt my heart stop for a second in anticipation of what he would do when he got to me. Seeing his human form walking towards me I shifted into mine as my dreams became a reality; he was my mate. ------- ------- ------- ------ ------ ------ ------- -------- Zander p.o.v Agitated I started pacing around my office I just couldn't seem to contain my frustration any more. I was tired I never seemed to wake rested anymore not since the dream started which just put me on edge most of the time. Guess that is why my pack started avoiding me unless it was necessary other than my brother Ryan and my beta Ian. My dream haunted me every time I closed my eyes; wandering through the woods blindly running away from anything and everything I know and love into a black hole of nothing. The dream was just tip of it; we were growing in numbers so I decided a couple of months ago that we needed to expand. Lucky me there was an abandoned pack territory just east of us. Purchasing the land found out its been like this for about 14 years. Right after I started the paperwork was when the dream started. That stupid dream with each passing night it was getting more and more vivid. I growl as the dream flashed through my head. Walking through the fields around the pack house I let the breeze guide me. Moving along I watch in horror as flame engulf the building and chaos unfolds. Wolves are running screaming howling in pain. Rogue wolves appear out of thin air and start attacking the already injured wolves. I try and run to there aid but I am frozen in place. Suddenly the whole world has twisted and turned around I see a little girl and she is running away from the battle behind her that still rages on tears streaming down her face; I reach out to try and comfort her but my hand goes right through her. Noticing this I am screaming trying to comfort her any way I can but nothing is working so race after her. Glancing up from the girl I realize she is running towards the woods only this is the flames that have slowly engulfed the trees. Panic rising in my chest I lunge for the girl only to fall flat on my face looking up just in time to see her combust as she ran through the trees. Ash slowly blow across the field and covered me. Horrified I lay there as the flames come closer and closer and slowly consume me. Suddenly it feels like someone slammed a truck into the side of my head. Mid-stride I stop and lean back against my desk raising my palm to rest my head in it. Standing there trying to subdue the pain there was a knock at the door. "What?" I yelled staring at the door as my beta Ian stepped inside. Grumbling I walked around and flopped into my desk chair. "Sorry, Ian its that damn dream again and a killer headache." "Sorry to hear that Zander; I came to let you know that the morning patrol is out and our new expansion is built and ready to be run through before we start moving some of our people over." Letting me know; how everything was going with the new expansion. I nodded my thanks and winced at the pain. Gritting my teeth I suppressed a growl as it tried to rip itself from my throat. "Zander Alpha why don't we take your brother and go take that first run on the new land." Ian offered, shifting back and forth a nervous dance of his, "It might help clear your head." Standing up I placed my hands on the desk, "Yes that is a good idea, Now go and find my brother I will meet you at the new territory in 20." I quickly ushered him out and shut the door letting out the growl I was heading in.
