Chapter 8: Who Dares to Force Her

1218 Words
Hannah's voice was so loud that Olivia heard it clearly. She also heard Ethan's piercing words from earlier. Olivia felt as though all her seven years of deep affection had been fed to the dogs. She looked coldly at Ethan and said, "I only asked Li to record that video; I didn’t ask her to delete it." Ethan stared at her expressionlessly. "With both the witness and the evidence against you, do you still want to make excuses?" Olivia smiled with a trace of sadness. Why was she even explaining to him? Was she expecting Ethan to believe her? Whenever something involved Hannah, Ethan would always unconditionally side with her. Olivia pressed her lips together, trying to keep her emotions stable. "If that’s the case, then let’s investigate. I won’t admit to something I didn’t do, even if it means sacrificing the entire Olivia family, I’ll clear my name." She had always been gentle and demure, obedient and polite. This side of her, however, was something Ethan had never seen before. He chuckled lightly. "Your mouth is quite sharp." "Ethan, don’t forget that I studied law. If I hadn't been tempted by your wealth, I might have become a very successful lawyer by now." When Olivia said this, she deliberately emphasized "tempted by wealth" and smiled nonchalantly, as if she had long been used to being seen this way by others. Ethan was greatly angered, his teeth clenched in frustration. "Then I wish you good luck!" With that, he turned on his heel and slammed the door behind him. As soon as he left, Aiden quickly jumped out of the car and said, "Ethan, you forgot to bring the supplements you bought for Olivia. Should I send them up, or…?" Before Aiden could finish, Ethan's cold voice cut him off. "Throw them away!" Aiden looked at the bruise on Ethan's face and quickly realized what had happened. He tried to persuade him, "Ethan, those were high-quality supplements you personally selected. How can you just throw them away? Olivia is just upset with you; it’s normal to have a little tantrum. If I had left my girlfriend to give blood and abandoned her, she’d have skinned me alive. You only got a scratch on your face; it’s really not a big deal. Once she’s calmed down, I’ll take them to her." Ethan, deep in thought, looked at Aiden, his mind occupied with Olivia’s pale face. Forty cubic centimeters of blood had done this to her. All the fine meals he had treated her to had been in vain. He said calmly, "Do as you wish." He then pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it, mumbling, "Go check the surveillance footage." Aiden immediately took the task, "I’ll check right away. You don’t believe Olivia would do that, do you? She’s capable and has earned your favor. There might be others who are envious and trying to force her out to take her place." Ethan took a deep drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaled. His handsome face was shrouded in a white haze, looking somewhat enigmatic. He narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "Let’s see who dares!" The car slowly drove off towards the Ethan family’s company headquarters. As he opened the office door, a kindly voice came from inside. "My dear grandson, surprised to see me?" Grandma Matilda, dressed in a light blue qipao with white curly hair, looked vibrant despite her age. She seemed to have gained ten years of youth. Ethan, who had been frowning, showed a hint of a smile upon seeing her. "Why are you here? Isn’t it better to stay home gardening?" "Those things are useless. It would be better if you gave me a little great-grandchild to play with." She looked around the office, her eyes twinkling with a smile. "I heard you have a particularly beautiful and capable secretary. Why haven’t I seen her?" "She resigned." Ethan replied indifferently, offering no further explanation. Grandma Matilda looked disappointed. "You can’t keep such a smart, pretty, and capable girl? You useless thing! I even wanted her to be my granddaughter-in-law." It seemed that if she didn’t step in, this granddaughter-in-law would slip away. Ethan scoffed lightly, unconcerned. Olivia was smart and capable? That was in the past. The current Olivia was like a thorny rose; whenever he tried to get close, she would sting him. Remembering this, Ethan’s frustration grew once more. On the other hand, Olivia soon discovered that Li had turned against her. Li insisted that Olivia had instructed her to erase the evidence. There was also a record of a one-million-dollar transaction between them. That was a loan Olivia had given Li. Li needed money for her wedding and home renovations and borrowed a million from Olivia. It turned out that this money had now been labeled as criminal proceeds. Olivia couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. In this world, it’s not just about guarding against fire and theft but also against friends. She hadn’t expected someone she trusted so much to turn on her at such a crucial moment. She looked at Shawn Yates, "This matter seems quite tricky. All the evidence is against me. I’m afraid it might ruin you as well." Shawn Yates smiled dismissively. "I’ve said before, as long as I’m here, I won’t let anyone bully you. I’ll find the evidence, and you just focus on resting these days. Take care of your health first, understood?" "I’ll help you find out. Li wouldn’t have turned against me without someone behind the scenes." As they were discussing, Olivia’s phone suddenly rang. Seeing the caller ID, she frowned with irritation. As soon as she answered, a harsh voice came through. "Olivia, come back here right now!" It was her grandmother. Every time she called, it was never for anything good. As Olivia walked into the lobby of the Olivia family home, a teacup was hurled at her. She didn’t have time to dodge, and the teacup lid hit her forehead, causing blood to flow down her face. Instinctively, she covered her forehead with her hand and looked at Grandma Matilda in confusion. "What did I do to deserve this?" "How dare you ask? The Olivia family and the Ethan family’s major project has been halted. Isn’t this the trouble you caused? Why did you resign from being a good secretary? Why did you have to quit? Now, look, Ethan has taken action against the Olivia family. We’re about to be ruined because of you." Grandma Matilda continued, banging on the coffee table in front of her with force, her demeanor severe and unyielding. There was no trace of familial affection. Olivia ignored the pain in her forehead and slowly processed her grandmother’s words. The Ethan family had indeed halted cooperation with the Olivia family. Ethan had truly followed through on his threats. Olivia smiled bitterly. "So what are you suggesting? Should I continue being by Ethan’s side, with no official status, just as his outlet for his desires?" Grandma Matilda sneered, "You dare to dream! Climb into Ethan’s bed and still want a title. If it weren’t for me helping you, you wouldn’t even have had such a good opportunity!" Hearing this, Olivia’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at her grandmother.
