---Derek's POV---
After a long, distressful childbirth, that could have been so much worse, but luckily it wasn't.. everything ended up working out.. we had some complications but we made it through and that's what really matters out of all of this. I headed out of the emergency room after cleaning myself off while throwing my gloves in the dispenser.. I need to get out of these scrubs that are covered in everything you don't want to be. I went back to the washroom to get changed into my clothing I was wearing before when I first showed up.
After a moment of just tearing off my gross scrubs, I threw them into the bin to be washed before changing into my clothing.. Getting comfortable once more. I grabbed for my phone, noticing a message I missed being on there. It's from Missy.. I assume because there is no one else that I have helped that has my number.. She thanked me.. She actually thanked me, showing she wasn't mad and appreciated my gesture, which was all I wanted.
That reminds me that she was in here and further down the hall. So I take all my items in hand as I walk down the still busy hallways getting to the elevators. I turned to look in the direction I was before to try to figure out what room she was in without her noticing me. I luckily see Heather leaving the room I think she went into. So I make my way over to there, noticing that Missy is still in the room talking with a guy that's in the hospital bed. He looks sickly but probably younger than her. I can't help the tinge of jealousy that runs through my veins like a drug, overwhelming my senses with that sad thought.
I hear Heather clearing her throat, probably just wondering why I'm here. I quickly turn to her and moving out of view of the window so I'm not noticed by Missy.. But this action doesn't go unnoticed by Heather, who is now looking at me suspiciously. "Why is Missy here?" I ask quickly, just wondering if I would find out right away who this guy is that she is visiting. Heather looks at me to answer, before the door swings open.. almost hitting me in the face, but I dont stop it or move because I don't want her to know that I'm here.. I would hate for her to think I'm following or stalking her.. That would ruin any little bit of trust she might have started building up for myself.
"Thanks Heather, I have to head to work.. please just take care of him, but if he needs anything don't hesitate to call me please." Missy states to her as Heather replies, acting like I'm not even there, even though part of this answer is for me.. Because I think she noticed I'm trying to hide. "No problem sweetheart.. hope you have a good night and we will see you tomorrow.. You know your little brother is always in good hands here.. So try not to stress.. This little cold will pass soon enough." That makes me feel so much better just knowing that it's her brother and not a lover or boyfriend or anything along those lines. "Thanks Heather.. I'll bring you some snacks tomorrow.. I got too busy today." Missy says as Heather scoffs at that comment, stating right back to her. "I appreciate your company almost as much as your brother does and that is all that matters.. I can't wait to see your performance video."
I hear steps receding down the hall from us as Heather moves the door off of me and shuts it before grinning widely at me. "You like Missy huh?" I don't know what to say to her as my mouth opens and shuts with nothing coming out, so I just nervously look back and forth down the now open hallways hoping for some type of distraction to take the attention off of myself.. but nope I can't get that when I need it. "So what? You couldn't get enough of the snacks so you went straight to the source?" She asks as my eyebrows furrow.. obviously not understanding what she means by that comment.
"Missy is the one that makes all the snacks that you love.. She is the woman I told you about that comes here to visit her brother every single day and, most of the time, brings snacks and sometimes brings meals in between her performing and work.. I thought you knew that." she explained to me as I get even more shocked. " That's how she knew about the brownies you had the other day." I stated to no one in particular as she giggled and shook her head at me. "So you have to be cautious around her.. She is an amazing woman, but has been hurt a lot by more than just the men in her life." Heather warms me as I make eye contact with her, wondering what she means. She can see the confusion apparent in my face as she slightly clarifies. "It's not my story to tell at all.. But I have known her for 6 years and, besides the fact that she lost her mother at a young age and was left by her father.. it's just her and her brother that she has taken full responsibility for. She works hard and doesn't have much time but always makes time for him.. But what Chris, her brother, tells me is that all the guys want her to leave him but she won't and it has caused so many of her relationships not to work out."
I nod before asking. "What's going on with Chris?" I ask as she states. "More than you probably want to know about.. the only reason I'm even letting you see this is because I know you're a good man and I think you and Missy could be good for each other if she gives you a chance." She states handing me the brother's medical folder.
I flipped it open and took a look.. glancing through the basics of his information.. He really does have so much going on, that it must be overwhelming for everyone around.. especially him and Missy. I decided to glance at her information.. But it doesn't give any job history.. I bet they have it in the insurance and billing area.. but I'm not going to investigate her like that.. So I'll just quickly ask, "Do you know where she works at? It doesn't say on here."
"No, actually in 6 years she has refused the entire time to tell me where she works.. She just always comes in paying in cash.. even her brother doesn't know.. and he knows everything about her besides that.. sorry hun.. just a warning though Derek.. She is an amazing woman, so if I hear about you hurting her I will kick your ass.. Just mark my words.. But hopefully, you can be the anchor of stability she needs to stay around here." Heather states, warning me as I smile and nod at her handing the file back. I glance into the room, noticing the boy is falling asleep. So I leave the hospital and headed back home for the night since I have nothing else to do.
I get to my house, parking my bike in the garage before going through the garage door to the house. I throw my keys onto the counter as I slip my jacket off and hang it on the dedicated hook. I wander around my place turning on some music before looking at the food.. I have to make something to eat. I'm starving after everything that happened. I'm glancing in the fridge, letting my gaze bounce over all the ingredients I have, while my phone starts to ring. I pick it up and glancing at the caller ID name, it's Josh.
"Hey man whats up?" I asked him, still looking at what I have to eat. "Hey, I was talking with Sarah after a fun time we shared once again.. and she said that as far as she understands. Missy got upset with her ex and muscles.. She doesn't know what they did to her but apparently Missy was complaining about how much she hates them and they ruined everything for her.. that she is talking about leaving and not coming back." Josh explains to me.
"Like actually leave?!" I asked him before he replied. "Yea, I guess she has been tired of this place but can't move because of her brother who is apparently in the hospital.. that's what Sarah said at least." He explained to me as I responded. "I saw her at the hospital and guess what?! She is the snack girl.. She is the sweet woman that brings snacks for us, every week when she comes to visit her brother.. Missy is the woman that Heather was talking about to us the other day." I explained to him further as I heard him hum in response.
"Well get this.. I guess after you helped Missy today with Mr.Beefcake Muscles.. he stormed back inside and started throwing things around. Talking a lot of gibberish, but pretty pissed about the fact that you were there to help keep her from him" He explains to me as I nod in understanding of this now completely obsessed man that I'm coming in the middle of his plan, and he is not liking it one bit.. but that too bad.. As I said before, I'm not leaving until she tells me to leave.
"Thanks for the warning man.. Soooo... I have to know.. What's going on with you and Sarah? I thought it was going to be a one-night thing and it's already more than that." I stated the obvious, just wondering what his next plan of attack is. "She is something else.. I like her and want to keep this going as long as I can believe me.. but I don't want to jinx it so that is all I'll say at the moment." He exclaims to me, making me smile.. He has been the single ladies man for so long that it's refreshing to see him trying to tie down to a woman.. I couldn't have been happier to know that. I haven't seen him want to make an attempt with a woman in a long time, so Sarah must be special to him.. That's sweet.
"I have tomorrow off too, so is it ok if I steal another ticket from you to watch Sarah again? I was thinking of taking her to eat, after." Josh says to me, as I can't help but smile at that. "Yea of course man.. you can come by and get it whenever.. but I have to work the morning shift tomorrow so I won't be able to go." I explain as he groans out. "I have to sit through that play alone? Ugh.. But it will be worth it to see Sarah.. fine." I laughed at that comment before I replied. "Yea you will have to survive without me.. but I do have to tell you.. I gave Missy my number and she messaged me saying, thank you for today.. That was it, but good enough for me."
"That's showing that she is thinking about you no matter how much she is trying to keep herself closed off and that's good.. you're like a little tick that has burrowed your way in under her skin.. lets just hope she doesn't remove you so you can get closer to her heart.. Well, have a good night, I'll probably come see you in the morning to get the tickets if you don't mind?"Josh asks me as I chuckle at his response, then state. "Of course, see you in the morning." I hang up the call and put my phone down to try to figure out what I plan to cook for tonight since I now have no distractions.
