Chapter 14

The afternoon sun was getting far too hot to enjoy sitting in it on the beach. We went for one last swim then everyone packed up and headed back to the house for a late lunch. I helped Jill and Mel to prepare some salads while Cody and Grant cooked the barbecue for us outside. Everyone else was playing a doubles game of pool. We enjoyed our lunch along with a couple of drinks, playing more games of pool, starting a tournament, the winners just gaining bragging rights. Ash and Dan dominated all of us. Everyone was having a great time together and I really felt like I started to belong. Around 5pm we decided to head upstairs to shower and change before heading to the fair that night. We were going to just grab dinner at the food trucks. Grant, Jill, Mel and Rob were going out for a nice dinner, while the rest of us headed to the fair for the night. After my shower and getting dressed into my denim skirt and strappy singlet with an open back, wearing a lace bralet because it looked classier than bra straps. Cody jumped in the shower. I was doing my hair when I heard frustration coming from the room next to us. It was Hayley. I knocked on her door to check she was ok. “Hey girl, you ok?” She was stood in front of the mirror holding her hair up, looking frustrated. 

“Oh Sophia! How do you do it? Your so gorgeous all the time and I’m so blah! My hair won’t play nice, my clothes are terrible. How will I ever get guys to notice me?!”

“Wow ok.” I said as I walked in, coming up beside her, grabbing her brush from the bed. “First of all, I’m definitely not gorgeous all the time. I put a lot of work into my body at the gym and you should see me after a couple of early morning shifts! Here, let me help you with your hair.” I sat on her bed, gesturing for her to sit in front of me on the floor. I started brushing her hair, then was going to do a side braid that would shape her face beautifully. “Now second, you shouldn’t be dressing yourself to impress guys. Start with dressing to impress yourself. When you feel happy with yourself and confident then people will notice. Be comfortable with yourself, love yourself and others will notice. Your confidence is your best asset. Plus you are a beautiful girl, you have the same amazing eyes as your brother.” I smiled at her. She seemed to be really thinking about what I was saying and I hoped she would listen and remember it, at only 18, she has so far to go and so many good times, but probably hurt still to come. “There, how do you like that?” I asked her, finishing up her hair. She stood to look in the mirror and turned to me with a giant smile “Perfect!! Thank you!” She hugged me. “Ok, now do you want to wear that or something else? What clothes did you bring?” She looked ok in that outfit, but I knew she could do better. Currently she had on a dress that didn’t really highlight her best features, her curvy hips. “Well I have shorts sort of like yours and a few tops I guess.” I checked through her choices and settled on denim shorts and a white loose boyfriend t-shirt that tied up on the side so it gave a sneak peak at her tanned hips without being revealing or skanky at all because it was loose up top. We slightly touched up her make up, just highlighting her brows and adding a small amount of eyeliner to make her eyes pop. She looked amazing and as she turned to look in the mirror a giant smile crept onto her face. “Feel confident now? Because you look it!” 

“Yes!” She beamed. “Thank you so much! And for your words. I really like you Sophia, I really hope you stick around in my brothers life, well my life too. I always wanted a sister” she hugged me, a proper hug full of feeling and I glanced to the doorway to see Cody standing there watching us. “Come on, let’s go. I’ll meet you downstairs” she exited the room, smiling at Cody and pecking him on the cheek as she walked out. “Don’t stuff this up bro, I like her!” 

“Ha! I will do my best” he replied as I walked up to him. “How long were you watching us?”

“Long enough. Thank you, I haven’t seen her smile that bright for some time. Not sure I like that you’ve made her even more appealing for the boys that might hit on her!” 

“Relax babe, she’s 18. Remember when you were that age hitting on girls? She has to experience love, lust and heartbreak sometime. We just might need to be there to help her through.”

“We?” He raised his eyebrows. “Well I sure hope we! I’m not going anywhere!” He smiled, loving hearing those words. He responded by leaning in and kissing me deeply, full of love. How do his kisses still make me melt every time? The voices from downstairs calling for us to hurry up broke us apart. Cody grabbing my hand, we headed down to join the others. 

The fair was only a 10 minute walk away as it was on the beach front. I wanted to head straight to the rides, so we did. There were Cha Cha’s to send us spinning, the pirate ship and then the ghost train. We all laughed so much then deciding to get some dinner. After dinner we split up, Cody and I went off by ourselves, but making sure that everyone had their phones turned on so we could meet up later. We went to play some carnival games, we didn’t win a thing, but we laughed a lot and that was what mattered most. As the sun was beginning to go down, Cody suggested we go on the Ferris wheel to watch it set over the ocean. 

“Your so cliche” I teased, “but I love it.” He just shrugged his shoulders, still grinning and led me to the line. We got on and he placed his arm around my shoulder, this way I could easily rest my head on his shoulders. As we went up, soaking in the view he turned to me, suddenly looking a bit more serious. 

“Babe, I’ve been thinking about your proposal for me to move in.” 

I sat up straighter to look at him, excited but also nervous that he wouldn’t want to. That he thought it was too soon. 

“I don’t want to be apart from you, I want to come home to you each night, wake up beside you. I know it’s only been 2 months but I want to share my life with you. So let’s do it.”

“Really?” I questioned excitedly.

“Yep! We’ll tell my family tomorrow morning. I don’t know how they will react, but I don’t care.” I cut him off with a kiss and wrapped my arms around his neck. “I love you Sophia, I want to be with you always”

“Sorry, what did you just say?”

“I said I love you.” He pulled me back, looking me in the eyes as he said it. 

“Sorry, not sure I caught that?” I teased, grinning. He knew I had heard him but just wanted him to say it again. 

He then yelled for everyone else on the ride to hear and probably everyone below, “I LOVE YOU SOPHIA MOORE!” grinning like a child on Christmas morning I laughed, kissing him again and pulled back to look at him in the eye. “I love you too Cody. So much”. My heart fluttered, I was the happiest girl on this ride, at this fair, probably in the world right now! I was nervous to tell his family in the morning but for tonight, this was our time together and we were going to enjoy it. After we got off the ride we walked around a bit more just watching other people. Then Cody got a text from Ash, there was a bonfire party on the beach just getting started, they wanted us to come. So we headed to the beach. There sure was a bonfire, someone had a speaker going for music and everyone looked to be having a great time as the sun just peeped over the horizon, nearly plunging us to night. We found the others, Ash and Dan were busy chatting up some girls who looked like sisters, no doubts trying to close in the hook up. We found Hayley chatting with a group of teens around her age. She saw us and smiled waving us over. I could see one boy was clearly giving her the eye. I whispered to her as I hugged her from the side “you have an admirer” she looked at me in disbelief and I nodded my head towards the cute boy. She blushed. I turned to Cody “Hayley and I are going to dance, come join us in a minute, bring him” I whispered the last bit, nodding my head at the boy interested in Hayley, he looked at me, unsure what I was up to but agreed. I took Hayley to where people were already dancing and we joined them. Shaking our hips, enjoying the music. After a few minutes Cody came up behind me, snaking his hands around me from behind moving the beat with me. As requested he brought the boy for Hayley, who she began dancing with. After a couple of songs we left them and went to stand by the fire. It didn’t take long to look around us and see teen hook ups everywhere! We saw Dan taking the sister he was talking to away from everyone else and as we looked to the dancing, Hayley was making out with the boy. “My job here is done.” 

“Did you just score my little sister a random hook up?” 

“It’s what she wanted! She wants to feel like she can attract guys, it’s just how it is at that age babe. I’m sure you remember! She will be ecstatic tomorrow, you’ll see”
