Finding Love Again

Chapter 19

In the morning I only stirred to someone else’s cough and the feeling I was being watched. Waking and realising that Cody and I were entangled in blankets and each other, still on the lounge room floor, still naked after our heavy session the night before. I looked up to the source of the cough, seeing Sarah and Tom standing, looking at us with smirks on their face. 

“Uhh.. what are you doing here?” I asked, which woke Cody too. 

“Well we tried calling, Cody did you forget you have a game? Both your phones went straight to voicemail and you and I are supposed to be helping the club today during the game. Imagine our surprise walking in to... this” she spread her arms. “What happened here? Actually no. Don’t tell me! Just put some have a shower and get ready! Here we got coffees for everyone.” I groaned, but then realised we were still naked and these two were standing in front of us. Cody groaned beside me, snaking his hand around my waist and snuggling in. “Go babe, shower first. You have a game.” I turned to Sarah, “I guess our phones died, we didn’t plug them in because we fell asleep here”

“Hmmm I can see that! Romantic evening I take it.”

“Something like that” I smiled, “it was great after the hearing yesterday”. She nodded, she would never judge us, it was our house after all, plus being my best friend she knew all about our amazing s*x life. Cody got up beside me, taking one of the blankets wrapped around him and went to the shower. I got up to head to the shower too, Tom stopping me “no! We don’t have time for you to shower together!” I laughed, shaking my head. “Shut up Tom!” I need to at least put some clothes on!” 

It didn’t take long for us to get ready. It was cold out as we were still in Winter, nearing spring though, which meant finals for the football. I put on my light blue jeans, bone coloured ankle boots with a low block heel, and a burgundy knit jumper. I put a white scarf into my bag incase I was cold later. A casual look, but enough to keep me warm and stylish. After 20 minutes we were all piled into Tom’s dual cab Ute and headed off to the boys football game. The boys sat in the front while us girls squished into the back seat. Once arriving at the clubhouse the boys went off to join their teams and we headed to see where we were reunited. They wanted us helping with snacks and drinks in the canteen. We were only required for the few hours of the boys game. Later there would be a barbecue dinner and drinks at the club in the bar. We didn’t always stay every week but as this game determined if they would make finals or not, if they won we would certainly be staying. The biggest downside to coming to these games was Kali was always here, her and her little group of bimbo friends were like groupies for the football team. If anything I liked to stay to keep her away from my man. 

The game was down to the final few minutes, scores were even. All of us ladies in the canteen were watching from the stands, not serving anyone and yelling like crazed fans. Cody took the ball from defence, running it down the wing, he kicked it to another teammate Josh, who then sent a perfect kick in to Tom who leapt up onto the shoulders of his opponent taking what would be talked about as the mark of the game. From where he marked the ball it was an easy kick for him to score a goal. We all screamed and cheered, jumping up and down, Sarah and I hugging each other. 30 seconds later the final siren went off and the boys all rushed to each other in the middle of the field, they had made finals with that last goal! Celebrations would be long and full of booze tonight! 

When the boys were down showering, they came and found us already in the clubhouse bar. We had ordered a drink for them already, congratulating each of them on the game and making finals. From there the celebrations began. Everyone was having a great time chatting, eating and even the dance floor was going. I was very aware of the looks I was getting all night from Kali and her friends, I told Sarah who also had noticed and was getting annoyed by them. “Honestly it’s fine girl, I’d be jealous of me too!” That comment sent Sarah into a fit of laughter, clearly helped by the drink. “I’m just going to the bathroom, back in a minute babe.” Cody nodded at me, he was deep in conversation about football with another player Ryan. When I was in the stall I heard other people enter, it didn’t take long to realise it was Kali and her friend Sasha. “I just don’t know what he even see’s in her!” Kali whined. “Oh honey, I know. You were so much better for him! I’m sure he will realise what he is missing soon!” Sasha cooed at her. “She’s so stuck up too! That’s not what he is into! I bet he is only into her for s*x, she has nothing else besides her body going for her. Damaged goods as far as I’m concerned! Her ex probably drove into the pole on purpose to get away from her.” At that moment, I wasn’t going to listen to anymore! How could someone be that jealous they would speak ill of the dead! She can say what she wants about me, at the end of the day I have what she wants, but don’t talk about Matthew. Oh but I wasn’t going to let this girl get to me. I walked out of the stall, smiling sweetly at both girls as I stepped beside them to wash my hands. Sasha looked petrified as she realised I had heard everything, Kali was standing with her mouth slightly open. 

“Kali, Sasha.” I nodded. “Enjoy your night.” With that I walked out of the bathroom leaving them shocked. I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of saying anything about what I heard. I walked up to Cody who was sitting at the bar, he snaked his arm around my waist as I stood beside him, his attention now all on me. “What’s wrong babe, you look pissed”

“I just heard Kali and Sasha talking crap about me, they didn’t realise I was in the stall.” I didn’t want to bring up what they said about Matthew, he didn’t need to know and it would just cause more drama. 

“For f**k sake, what did they say?” He asked. 

“Oh they just can’t believe you’ve chosen me over her” I grinned at him. 

“Why are you grinning?” 

“Because I know that your mine. She’s delusional”

“Sure is!” He said as he looked over my shoulder, presumably seeing the girls walking out of the bathroom. Just then he turned to me, wrapping me up in a kiss, the kiss turning incredibly passionate. It was clear with this kiss to anyone looking that we belonged to each other, that this kiss was claiming each other. From around us we heard teammates starting to cheer and wolf whistle at us, finally pulling apart, he rest his forehead on mine, “maybe that will send a message” I smiled at him, kissing him again quickly. God I loved this boy! I turned in time to see Kali storming out, Sasha close behind. A satisfied grin on my face I ordered another round of drinks. Then joined Sarah for a dance as the boy’s started talking again, but even while they talked I could see Cody constantly checking on me. By the end of the night we were all fairly drunk and no one was driving anywhere. 

“Come on, you guys are coming to stay at ours, I’ll get an Uber” I said to Sarah and Tom where we’re wrapped up in each other’s bodies on the couch. “Think you can seperate long enough for the drive?” I laughed. I stumbled my way over to Cody, singing and dancing my way over as the last few songs of the night played. 

“Come on lover boy, I’m drunk. Take me to your bed.” I joked, knowing that I would in fact pass out when we got home, which is just what happened less than an hour later.
