“Are you blushing?” Jane’s voice was high-pitched and full of curiosity. Her face was almost inches from mine as she scrutinized me.
“What do you mean?” I asked, heading to the sink with my bowl, which had once held cereal.
“Well, you’re either blushing or have a high fever.”
I chose not to respond.
“And since you didn’t answer me and just stared into space, I’d guess it’s blushing.”
I looked back at Jane, who was smirking as she leaned over the counter, her eyes fixed on me with keen interest. I felt caught and the flush on my cheeks deepened.
