Chapter One
"Your honor, my client has admitted to murdering Melissa Green, but it was only in self defense. And the wounds my client has, proves her claim to be true. The victim broke into my client's home at approximately 3:00 am, with a small hand gun, prepared and ready to kill my client. The letter that Melissa wrote my client shows that she threatened her, and it clearly states that she was going to "get her". Which obviously meant kill in this situation. We have lots of evidence that proves my client is innocent, and should be proven not guilty." "Thank you Mrs. Phillips. Now Mr. Johnson would you please give us your final statement." the judge said. "Glad to. Although Mrs. Phillips thinks she might have evidence that proves her client is innocent, I disagree. It is clear in the letter Melissa wrote to her husband, and in the letter the victim wrote to the Defendant is not the same hand writing. And the defendant may have defensive wounds on her body, but she could have easily made the wounds herself. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, Melissa Green was viscously murdered by the defendant. There is proof. Her family has lost someone very special. A daughter, a wife, and a mother. You are this family's only hope for justice. Prove her guilty, and be the hero. Thank you." "Thank you Mr. Johnson. We will take a break, & we will call everyone back in when the jury has reached the verdict." The judge stated shortly before he banged his gavel and walked away. As I sat in the courthouse cafeteria, I began to become anxious for the results, even though I knew I had won the case. I mean all the evidence we had, proved my client was innocent. Johnson knows I won too.  Two hours had passed, and I literally felt like I was gonna piss my pants. Just when I thought I was going to be there all night, the judge sent his secretary to call everyone back in for the reading of the verdict. When I walked in, it felt like everything was in slow motion. The victim's family members gave me a terrible death stare. Like I was the one who murdered their precious baby. By the time I looked away, I was back at my seat. After the judge took his seat, he began to speak. "Alright. The jury has reached their verdict. So at this time would the defendant, plaintiff, and lawyers please stand." When I stood up, I glanced over at Johnson who knodded at me. That was his sign of saying good luck. "At this time, would the selected speaker read the verdict." "Yes your honor. We the jury find the defendant Samantha Christine Parker not guilty of murder in the first degree." As soon as the verdict was read, cries shot out across the room. My client began to sob in my arms leaving tear and make up stains in my crisp, grey suit. And all she kept saying was "Thank you.. Thank you.. You saved my life." Those words really hit me.  "You saved my life"... All I could think about was dreading the next place I had to go.... Home.
