1. The man in the room
It's a beautiful summer day in the English countryside, and the air is warm and still. Lady Arabella arrives at the grand estate of her friend, Lady Victoria. As she approaches the house, she sees a tall, handsome man riding a horse in the distance. She watches him for a moment, struck by his skill and grace, but then she shakes herself out of her reverie and approaches the front door As Lady Arabella reaches the front door, she takes a deep breath and rings the bell. A moment later, a servant opens the door. "My lady, it's so good to see you," the servant says with a smile. "Lady Victoria is expecting you. Please come in." As Lady Arabella enters the house, she feels a sense of unease. Something feels off, but she can't quite put her finger on it Lady Arabella follows the servant into the drawing room, where Lady Victoria is waiting for her. As Lady Arabella greets her friend, she can't help but notice that Lady Victoria seems distracted. There's a tension in the air, and Lady Arabella can't shake the feeling that something is not quite right. "My dear, it's so good to see you," Lady Victoria says, but her smile seems forced. "How was your journey?" Lady Arabella takes a seat and begins to tell Lady Victoria about her journey. But as she speaks, she can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. Suddenly, there's a loud crash from another room. Both women jump, startled by the noise. The servant hurries out of the room to investigate. A few moments later, he returns, looking pale and shaken. "My ladies, I must tell you something," he says, his voice trembling The servant takes a deep breath before continuing. "There's a man in the house, and he's injured," he says. Lady Arabella and Lady Victoria exchange a look of alarm. "What do you mean, there's a man in the house?" Lady Arabella asks. "And how is he injured?" The servant hesitates for a moment before answering. "It's Lord Sebastian," he says. "He's injured his leg, and he's bleeding quite badly." The man's leg is covered in blood, and his face is pale. He's unconscious, but he's still breathing. Lady Arabella rushes to his side. "What happened to him?" she asks the servant. "I don't know, my lady," the servant says. "He was just lying here when I found him. I think he must have broken in." Lady Arabella looks around the room, searching for clues. "We need to call for a doctor," she says. "And then we need to find out who he is." Just then, the man on the bed begins to stir. He opens his eyes and looks around the room, confused. "Where am I?" he asks. His voice is hoarse and weak. Lady Arabella looks at him, her face full of concern. "You're safe now," she says. "What's your name?" The man pauses, his brow furrowed in thought. "I...I can't remember," he says. "I don't know who I am." Lady Arabella and Lady Victoria exchange a worried glance. "That's not good," Lady Arabella says. "We need to get you some help." She turns to the servant. "Send someone for a doctor, and then go to the village and see if anyone knows who this man is." The servant bows and hurries from the room. Lady Arabella turns back to the man on the bed. "Can you tell me anything about yourself?" she asks. Anything at all? The man looks at Lady Arabella, his eyes wide with fear. "I don't know anything," he says. "I don't know who I am or where I came from. All I know is that I woke up here." Lady Arabella's brow furrows. "You don't remember anything about your life before this?" she asks. "Nothing at all?" The man shakes his head, looking lost and afraid. "No, nothing," he says. "It's like I'm a blank slate." Lady Arabella looks at Lady Victoria, who is watching the man with a mixture of pity and curiosity. "What should we do?" Lady Arabella asks. "We can't just leave him here like this. He needs help." Lady Victoria nods in agreement. "We'll have to take him in," she says. "We'll need to give him a place to stay and help him figure out who he is." Lady Arabella looks back at the man, who is staring at them with a mixture of hope and fear. "We'll take care of you," she says. The man nods, grateful for their kindness. Lady Arabella and Lady Victoria help him to sit up and make him comfortable. Then they go to fetch some food and water. As they leave the room, they can't help but wonder what happened to the man to make him lose his memory. Who is he, and how did he end up here? And what will they do if they can't help him remember? Back in the bedroom, the man looks around, taking in his surroundings. It's a luxurious room, but he doesn't recognize it. Everything is a blur, and he can't recall anything from his past. He looks down at his hands, which are covered in scrapes and bruises. Did he have an accident? Was he in a fight? He has no idea. Then he looks down at his clothes, which are torn and filthy. He must have been through something, but what? He closes his eyes, trying to remember, but nothing comes to him. He feels lost. At that moment, Lady Arabella and Lady Victoria return with food and water. The man looks up at them, grateful for their presence. "Here you go," Lady Arabella says, handing him a bowl of soup. He accepts it gratefully, sipping it slowly. As he eats, he looks up at Lady Arabella. "Thank you," he says. "I don't know how I can repay you." Lady Arabella smiles. "You don't need to repay us," she says. "We're happy to help." She turns to Lady Victoria. "What should we do next?" Lady Arabella asks Lady Victoria. "We should get him some new clothes," Lady Victoria says. "He can't go around looking like this." Lady Arabella nods. "I'll go to the village and see what I can find," she says. "Meanwhile, you stay here and keep an eye on him." Lady Victoria nods and smiles at the man. "Don't worry," she says. "We'll take care of you." The man smiles back, feeling a sense of relief. For the first time since he woke up, he feels like he might be in good hands. Lady Arabella leaves the room, heading for the village to find some clothes for the man. As she walks, she wonders about his story. How did he end up in this state? Was he in an accident? Or was he a victim of some kind of crime? She feels a sense of dread, wondering what she'll find out. She arrives in the village and goes to the local tailor, explaining the situation. The tailor looks at her with concern. "I might have something that will fit him," he says. "But first I need to know what happened to him." Lady Arabella hesitates, unsure of how much to tell him. "He's lost his memory," she says. "He doesn't know who he is or how he ended up this way." The tailor looks shocked. "That's terrible," he says. "I hope he's able to recover." Lady Arabella nods. "We're doing everything we can to help him," she says. "I just hope it's enough." The tailor gestures to a rack of clothing. "I think I have something that will fit him. here," he says. "But it's not exactly in the best condition." Lady Arabella looks at the clothes, which are faded and a bit tattered. "They'll do," she says. "We just need something to cover him up." The tailor nods and helps her pick out some items that will fit the man. "I'll get them cleaned and repaired," he says. "They should be ready by tomorrow." Lady Arabella thanks him and returns to the manor house. Back in the bedroom, Lady Victoria is sitting with the man. She looks up at Lady Arabella as she enters. "You found some clothes?" she asks. Lady Arabella nods. "They'll be ready tomorrow," she says. Lady Victoria smiles. "That's great," she says. "In the meantime, we should try to get him to talk." Lady Arabella looks at the man, who is staring at the wall. "Do you want to tell us anything?" she asks. The man doesn't respond. He just keeps staring, lost in his own thoughts. Lady Victoria frowns. "It's like he's not even here," she says. "It's like he's a million miles away." Lady Arabella nods. "I know," she says. "But we have to keep trying." She looks at the man, trying to find a way to reach him. Then, she gets an idea. "What's your favorite color?" she asks. The man doesn't respond. Lady Victoria sighs. "This is hopeless," she says. But then, a flicker of recognition crosses the man's face. He looks at Lady Arabella and says, "Blue." Lady Arabella's eyes widen in surprise. "Blue?" she says. The man nods. "Yes, blue," he says. His voice is still quiet, but there's a hint of life in it now. Lady Arabella feels a surge of hope. "That's great!" she says. "Now, what's your favorite food?" The man hesitates, but then he says, "Cookies." Lady Victoria gasps. "Cookies!" she exclaims. The man nods. "Yes, cookies," he says. His voice is a little stronger now Finally, The man walked slowly out of the room, his head down. His steps were measured and hesitant, as if he were unsure of himself. He made his way down the hallway, past the servants and the other guests, until he reached the front door. He opened it and stepped outside. The sun was shining, and a warm breeze blew through his hair. He took a deep breath, savoring the fresh air. He looked around, taking in the sights and sounds of the world outside the manor
