Not Human Enough

Amanda: (singing) you not human enough, but I like the way you look at me….yeah…yeah…yeah, I like it. It’s Friday morning and Amanda’s taking a shower, singing. Her mom June, just came from work. She goes to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, as she’s prepares she shouts from downstairs. Mother: honey! I think your times up; hurry up before the bus comes Amanda: yes, mom! Mother: I hope you getting dress while replying to me Amanda: yes…..and done! As Amanda finishes up, she walk to her wardrobe to get her bag pack, she remembers that today is the debate assignment, she sighs. While mini preparing for the debate, she receives a text from Emily (one of her best friend). Emily: “hey beastie, don’t forget that tonight we going to the woods for paaaaarty!!” After reading a text she sighs heavily and walks downstairs to the kitchen. As she grabs her launch box made by her mother, her mom jumps in with an aim to scare he. Mother: roar!!! Amanda: (sad tone) yey, mom I am supper scared! Mother: Amanda what’s wrong, why that tone. Are you stressed about the debate assignment? Amanda: (sighs) yeah…….but I know I will figure it out, failing is not on my list Mother: wow, do you want me to say, I am so proud? I know you just said that just to make me less stress, well its working. Amanda: ooh mom, I think that’s the bus…love you, bye Mother: love you honey…kisses mchwa. As Amanda rushes to the bus, there is an empty seat next to Emily. She sits next to her as the bus drives to school. Throughout the road to school, they keep on discussing about the party and who will dress too nice. As they arrive to school, the school bell rings and everyone separate to their classes. After fourth period, it’s launch time; and Amanda she’s on her way to cafeteria she meets eyes with an unfamiliar student. As she looks at him, he looks at her catching Amanda looking. They lock eye and for a moment the guy’s eyes color changes from brown to yellow, Amanda closes her eyes and shacks her head; when she opens her eyes the guy is gone. During launch Amanda stairs around cafeteria looking for the weird guy, while looking she spots him chilling with a group of popular students. Kimberly one of the most wanted and copied girl in school and she’s hanging her arm on the weird guy’s shoulder, and yes Liam Emily’s crush and most respectable guy in school. While watching the guy, he watches everywhere and yeah; he locks eyes with Amanda again. He smiled at Amanda, while locking eyes Amanda notices that the guy’s eyes are not changing like they did earlier in the hall way. While locking eyes and no one seems to notice Amanda stands up and start packing her remainder of her launch, Emily and Mia ask. Emily: hello, where are you going? Lunch isn’t over yet. Amanda: I know that, I just need some fresh air Mia: since when? And please don’t say it’s about the debate assignment because, you scored an A+ Amanda: I just need to think about tonight, that’s all Emily: okay….if you say so Amanda: yeah…bye As she goes out, she thinks about the guy and truth behind him. She thinks about her brown eyes that can change to yellow, as she thinks there’s a voice bringing her back to reality and as she turns it’s the weird guy. Weird guy: are you thinking about, how I changed my eyes from brown to yellow? Amanda: (scared) isn’t that obvious? Like I mean besides being hot, you can change the color of your eyes. Weird guy: (laughing) hehehe…so I’m hot, wow! Weird guy: well where’s my manners, I’m Ethan King and yes I can change my eyes color Amanda: I…am…Amanda Lee…ash, am you going to erase my memory? Please don’t erase my memory; I need my memory on Monday, for my presentation please. Ethan: (laughing) it’s nice to meet you Amanda and hell no; I won’t erase your memory but… Amanda: pooh no, but what? Are you planning to eat me? Ethan: no, but I will let you go easy if you promise to come to tonight party…like the one in the woods? It will be nice seeing you there. Amanda: why? Are you planning to eat me there? And I was planning to go. Ethan: no, I won’t eat you and yes….i want to see you there…so bye Amanda hope to see you later. As Ethan leaves, Amanda stayed there mouth opened but no words coming out. After school Amanda she’s siting in the bus next to Mia as Emily sits next to them. As they talk about the party, Amanda she’s still shocked about Ethan and his mysterious powers. As the bus stops next to her place, both her friends say goodbye and she heads inside. As the sun goes down, Amanda’s mother is about to leave when she goes to her daughters room where she found her putting some makeup. Mother: honey, are you somehow going somewhere without informing me? Amanda: yes I am leaving, going to chill with my friends at Grad Golden Diner. Mother: okay, and remember to come home by midnight Amanda: I will mom; I will make sure to be home that early and sorry for not telling you earlier Mother: its ok, I think you were in a hurry in the morning so don’t worry just have fun…ok Amanda: thanks mom….and yes I will have fun Mother: I just hope you not putting that makeup to impress someone, I don’t know. Amanda: moooom! Mother: okay…..bye Amanda: bye mom and be safe Mother: I will… love you bye Amanda stays and prepare for the woods party, as preparing there is a knock on the door. She runs to downstairs to open the door to find her two best friends. As the three ladies finishes, they all head straight to the party. After few minutes later they arrive at the party that is messily packed with student from school and students from different schools. The woods are covered with decorations, tables, chairs and student dancing and drinking. One of the tables has different kind of drinks while the other has snacks. Amanda and her friends take seats next to the fire, as Mia and Emily have their drinks; as Amanda start looking around looking at other student having. As she start looking at the opposite side of her, her eyes meets Ethan. He caught her looking and smiles. She blushes and looks away quickly before locking eyes with him. Mia: oooh, someone is blushing…well did you see that hot guy named Ethan his so into you Amanda Emily: ooh yeah, and he can’t keep his eyes off you and his still watching you Mia: well friend, he is still watching Amanda: aah…. I think I should go fill up your drinks Mia: like really, are you trying to run away? Emily: ooh…Amanda his still looking, damn I wish Liam looked at me like that…he wants you Amanda: argh… I’m out Amanda stands and she smart looks where Ethan was sitting, she notices that his still looking at her. She walks towards the table of drinks to fill up her friend’s drink, while doing so. Ethan approaches and pulls her aside. Ethan: so you came…you look nice Amanda: was that a complement? Ethan: don’t get used to it, I hate giving complements it really makes me look weak in front of people. I asked you to come tonight, look….Amanda I want to know you like really know you. Amanda: like really, wow! What do you “really” want to know about me? Ethan: what you like doing on you spare times, food that you like, where you from and who are your parents… stuff like that Amanda: wow, well I love reading novels during on my spare time, I like mac and cheese, I’m from taxes and last but not least my mother’s name is June about my father well he left my mom, she was pregnant. What about you? Ethan: wow! I hate cowards, people who abandon their children. Well, I’m Ethan king from London moved here in 2003and I love Indian food. Amanda: Ethan… is you not going to tell me about your parents? What are they just like you? I mean do they have the same power as yours? About powers, why don’t you tell me who you really are because it is clear that you are not human enough? Ethan: Amanda…. I can’t tell you that Amanda: (disappointed) ooh! You don’t trust me, wow I’m surprised Ethan: it’s not that, can we please find somewhere less crowded? Amanda: I don’t like this but I will trust you, let me give these to my friends As she walks back to her friends, she hands them their drinks and turn back to where Ethan is standing, they both walk towards a dark and quiet area of the woods. As they disappear into the dark, Ethan’s eyes turns yellow just like in the hall way at school. Amanda stares in disbelief as the yellow eyes makes light in the dark. Ethan looks at her, they lock eyes. Amanda: we are alone, you can start talking Ethan: I didn’t bring you here for that Amanda: w-what! Are you really going to erase my memory? Ethan: (laughing) wow, I am not going to hurt you Amanda Ethan: look I brought you here to tell you, to tell you that….i Amanda: whoa! No! You can’t like me…I think it’s early and ridiculous Ethan: (shocked) wow! Amanda: yes….it is ridiculous and besides I am Amanda Lee Ethan: then what? Does that mean you can’t be liked, huh? Amanda: no…no…no…are you trying to say, you like me? Ethan: well…no Amanda: (sighs) phew…at least you said well…wait what? Did you just say no? Ethan: (laughing) that’s what you wanted to hear right…? Amanda: yes! Right Ethan: I called you here because, I wanted to tell you that I am a…… Amanda: a what? Ethan Ethan: (looking around) a…..person Amanda: (confused) a person? Ethan: yes there is a person behind you Amanda: like really are you trying to scare me? Ethan: like really you not scared? I think you should. As Amanda turns to see who is behind him, she turns to come face to face with Liam. Liam: boo!! Amanda: (pretending) aaah…. I’m scared, like really scared haaa! Liam: ooh...no…she’s good Ethan: yeah, Amanda this is my best friend aka Cousin Liam Smith Liam: at your service my lady Amanda: I know who you are; you are the school’s most handsome guy that every girl wants to date except me off course Liam: (laughing) handsome? Amanda stands there, blushing and saying nothing to Liam’s question and on the other side Ethan his smiling looking away from Amanda. While Liam looks at both of them back and forth, Ethan coughs. Ethan: I think it’s time for Liam to go…huh? Amanda: no! I think it’s time for me to go beside my time is up and tomorrow it’s a busy day for me. Ethan :( looking sad) aah, but Amanda… Liam: Amanda Ethan thinks if you could like to… Ethan: (pleading look) stay for a little longer…please As Ethan and Amanda are about to hug and say their goodbyes, Kimberly appears from nowhere. And starts walking towards Ethan, she puts her hands around Ethan’s next and looks at Amanda with the “his mine” look. Kimberly: ooh…hi you must be the famous nerd Amanda Amanda: being intelligent is much better than being famous and stupid Kimberly: (angry tone) excuses me? Did you just call me stupid? Amanda: yes because you called me a nerd, which is not cool Kimberly: I don’t have time for this, earthy can you please tell me what are you doing with the nerdiest student at this hour? Liam: (teasing) earthy! What a name…hahahaha Kimberly: argh…do you ever shut up Liam: no….since I didn’t let you in Amanda: (laughing) hahaha…what? She wanted to date you as well? Liam: yep and know she’s trying her luck on my cousin Kimberly: ooh shut Liam and you Amanda hope you know what I am capable off Amanda: oooh I’m scared! Like really, what are going to do? Sabotage me; make me look bad in front of your boyfriend Ethan? What? Kimberly: what I’m capable of is for you to watch and see, honey Amanda: ooh I’m really scared, no wonder Liam dished you. You are crazy, like bipolar crazy! Kimberly: (pointing figure to Amanda) shut up! Just shut the mouth up Amanda: (angry tone) or what!! Liam: ooh… this is getting fun Ethan: Liam not now please Ethan: Kimberly I think you should leave? Amanda: no she doesn’t have to, I will leave. Liam it was nice meeting in person and Ethan see you around Amanda is about to leave when her arm gets pulled by a hand to stop her from leaving, as she stops and turn to see Ethan’s hand hold her arm. As their eyes meet, they lean in for a kiss and then someone coughs. Kimberly: hello we are here and Ethan we should go back to the party Liam: Kimberly, I think you meant me not Ethan. Amanda: no, I should go…bye everyone Ethan: (pleading sad look) Amanda no don’t go…I Kimberly: argh! Ethan let the nerdy nerd go Ethan: shut up Kim! While Kimberly, Ethan and Liam fight over who leaves and who stays. Amanda walks backwards towards the party, as she reaches her friends all three of them leave the party. Amanda reaches home, its midnight and she’s walks to change and start being busy with her Monday presentation. On the other side of Ethan, after learning that Amanda left without him finishing their talk. He goes home sad and thinking whether Amanda got home safe or not. He enters in his huge home, where he finds his mother Mrs. King and his twin sister Ava sitting in the dining table waiting for their food to be served. Mrs. King: ooh honey you back, how was the party? Ava: ooh…hi brother how was the party Ethan: (sad tone) yeah the party was…fine Mrs. King: fine? Wow surely you were bored…well where Lisa is with the food, I’ll go check on her. Mrs. King leaves the two siblings as her head to the kitchen. Ava gets a text from one of her friends, she frowns. Ava: argh…. I am so tired to this girl Ethan: who and why? Ava: argh that girl named Amanda, she always makes it hard for lazy students like me to catch up…. you know Ethan: (shocked) why isn’t she the top student? Ava: yes! She’s good but she needs to chill a bit , she just needs a boyfriend and I was thinking about Cousin Liam. Ethan: why? If she’s focused on her studies, why try to destroy that… if I were you I would work extra hard reach her level, but hey since you are a witch maybe intelligent is not there. Ava: I am sorceries, the most powerful witch. Ethan: and the most laziest witch, why don’t you work harder Ava: I tried that, but it’s a lot to handle her. Ooh, brother since you are a half demon aka mini devil could you destroy her? Ethan: no, I’m not like witches. I like humans Ava: (shocking laugh) what! Are you trying to tell me that you like someone who is a human? Ethan: lower your voice and no is the answer to your question Ava: huh? You know for a second I thought you were saying “I like Amanda” gross right? Ethan: (shocked) what? Aah…no, maybe….aah yeah Ava: brother you sound weird, are you okay? Ethan: superb…witch Ava: argh! I’m hungry Ava stands and walks to the kitchen, leaving her cell phone behind. Ethan takes it and searches a list of his sister’s contacts, as he browse he notices a text message notification. He checks the notification that leads him to a group of student that are in the same class as Ava’s, as he searches he comes across a text “ guys, I think we should start to discuss the presentation question” posted by Amanda. Ethan clicks on the side profile picture of Amanda, where it leads him on her profile and there is Amanda’s phone numbers. As he hears her sisters’ voice from the kitchen sounding like she’s near the door, Ethan hurries to take out his phone from his pocket and takes a picture of Amanda’s contacts. He puts his sister’s phone back and start saving Amanda’s numbers. Her twin sister and mother enter the room with food, Ethan stands. Ethan: i….this I’ll eat in my room Mrs. King: okay honey Ava: (whisper to Ethan) “I know about you and Amanda, worry not my lips are sealed” Ethan leaves and goes straight to his room, as he finishes to do change. He check’s the time and it’s after midnight, he start texting Amanda. Ethan: “hi it’s Ethan, got your number from my sister. Just wanted to check if you have arrived safely” Amanda: “hi Ethan, I am sorry for leaving without saying goodbye and yes I arrived safe what about you?” Ethan: “its okay, I understand Kimberly is too much, and yes I did arrive home safely” Amanda: “when I was about to leave, you hold my arm. Why it looked like you wanted to tell me something, what was it all about?” Ethan: “yeah, but forget about that…tell me how are you?” Amanda: “good, but Ethan when I tried to leave. You said no, I shouldn’t go. What was that all about?” Ethan: “aah… what are you doing now?” Amanda: “Ethan! Are you really going to change the topic that quick?” Amanda: “Ethan? Are you there, why do I feel like you hiding something from me? Ethan: “aah, good night Amanda” Amanda: “WOW! Good night Ethan” It’s the next morning and yeah, it’s a sunny Saturday. Ethan his having coffee near the pool, imagining his last conversation with Amanda. As he stares at the pool, thinking but then a voice brings him back from his imagination. He looks to check whose voice is it; he turns to see Liam walking towards him. Liam: let me guess, you were thinking about her right? Amanda Ethan: is that really obvious? Liam: come on brother admit it you like her Ethan: I think it’s weird to feel something so real and so quickly, like I don’t know her but there is something about her. Like something special that I don’t know about. Liam: I get, but have you told her that you are a half demon in simple language a mini devilish? Ethan: no, but I kind of changed my eyes and she saw me. Liam: (shocked) w-what! And she hasn’t told anyone? Ethan: not that I asked her, but I don’t think so because her friends are too much. I think if they knew they would have made a noise by now. Liam: yeah especially Mia, but when are you planning to tell her? Ethan: I don’t know, but I can’t let her enter in my world. I just can’t do it Liam: I never thought I will see this day, Ethan the bad guy liking a human. Whoa…wait she’s a human; you can’t fall or date a human that’s not what your father or my uncle want. Ethan you are a half demon, you can’t risk being with a human. Ethan: I hear you Liam. Every witches and vampires want to be immortal and if I don’t become a complete demon, I am going to die. I know Liam: exactly and since this is our final year in Harry high school. My advice is that; marry Rose the vampire or Vanessa the witch just to become a complete devil. Then divorce the chosen bride then go for Amanda. Ethan: Liam you know very well that once I get into marriage with either the two women, I can’t get a divorce even if I wanted too. Ava: or maybe you could start forgetting everything that has to do with Amanda. Liam: wow, I didn’t know that you too dislike her Ava: I don’t dislike her, she just can’t be my bothers’ girlfriend…no! Ethan: I should be the one taking that decision Ava: but brother… Ethan: Ava! If I want to be with Amanda or a human, I will ok! Ava: then you die right; you know that you can make many witches immortal right? Since you are a half demon, you have the power to make witches, vampires, werewolf, demons live for eternity. You can’t die just for a human, you need to be complete and it can happen once you fall or date your future wife which she should be from the dark world. Liam: well, I’m happy that I am a complete human or else I would’ve been crying by now Ethan: I don’t know what the future holds, but one thing for sure I want Amanda in it. Ava: argh! That girl again, I better go. Bye Liam Ava leaves her bother and cousin, Ethan and Liam sit little long without saying anything to each other. Back to Amanda, it’s nine am and she is in the shower. While her mother just came back from work, she prepares breakfast while waiting for Amanda to finish up. Few minutes later, Amanda steps out of the shower. She takes her towel to cover her body, and then walks downstairs to the kitchen. Amanda: (excided) morning mom! hope you ready for today Mrs. Lee: ooh honey about that, today I can’t. I have to go visit your aunt at the hospital; she received her baby this morning…. Don’t you want to come with me? Amanda: nah thanks, you know I’m the last person my aunt want to see right now. You can go; I will go visit some friends Mrs. Lee: ooh how was it at the dinner? Amanda: great…. Mrs. Lee: just great? Okay, I have made you some pancakes they are in the microwave. Eat okay; I will be in my room changing. Amanda’s mom walks upstairs to her room, leaving Amanda alone eating her breakfast. As she eats she checks her phone, with a hope to get a text message from Ethan. Sadly no message from him, she sighs. As she keeps it, she hears a notification ring. She checks and sees that, it’s an unknown number. Unknown number: “hi, it’s me Liam. Are you free today, Ethan and I we going to the zoo. Would you and Emily like to join us?” Amanda: (laughing emoji) “hi Liam, yes we would like to join you.” Liam: “great, meet us at the MILKY ZOO in an hour” Amanda: “ ooh, we are to a farm zoo. Okay see you there” Liam: “cool, see you and Emily there” After getting a text invitation from Liam, Amanda text Emily to get ready and meet her at the Milky Zoo. After thirty minutes at the Milky Zoo, Liam and Ethan are standing outside the gate waiting for the two girls. Ethan on the other hand frowns. Ethan: ooh, come on Liam why don’t we get inside. Are you waiting for someone? Liam: yes I am waiting for them Ethan: them? how many are they? Liam: fifteen of them Ethan; (shocked tone) aah…what! You promised me that it will be me and you alone at the Zoo. Liam: yes, but I booked the Zoo for both of us. So an idea came along the way Ethan: (irritated) an idea…where you decided to believe in the phrase “the more the merrier, Liam I am leaving. Liam: no! Wait Ethan…. As he turns to leave, he comes face to face with Amanda and Emily. He steps back, admiring Amanda’s clothes. He looks at her from her shoes up to her face, Emily coughs. Emily: (coughs) khokho…hi Liam, hi Ethan Liam: ooh, hi Emily you look damn gorgeous…aah I mean nice…well a beautiful nice…ah what am I saying? Emily: (shocked) aah thanks…. Liam Amanda: (whisper to Ethan) I think someone is nervous; this is going to be hilarious Ethan: (whispers back) hahaha, I can’t wait to see him throughout the rest of the date Amanda: so Liam did you know that, Emily want’s to own a farm one day? Ethan: (suppressed) really! That’s actually what Liam wants too…you know Emily: hey, we are here you know. Ethan, Amanda likes you Ethan: (shocked) w-what? Amanda: (suppressed) Emily! Emily: what! Liam: well that’s obvious, even Ethan likes you too Amanda Amanda: (suppressed) what? Ethan: (shy) I….think we should go inside Liam: awkward! The group walks in, there is a variety of activities and farm animals to check on. They walk to a counter to buy tickets, but there is no one who sells tickets. Emily looks around the park to find no one, but the four of them. Emily: aah…guys I think the park farm is empty Amanda: yeah, it’s only us Liam: don’t worry ladies; I booked the whole park for the four of us Amanda: (shocked) what! Like really? Isn’t that a little too expensive? Liam: yes it is, but my father owns this place. So I asked him and he said sure Emily: (shocked) wow never thought that you were that rich, I don’t like being rich. Liam: (surprised) wow! Really…..everyone wants to be rich, why not you Emily: being rich attracts fake relationships, I can’t handle being played or fooled just because my parents have money…no
