Only O’Brien and Pulaski were at their desks. The rest of the squad room was empty and quiet. “Anybody see Verlangen this morning?” “What’s the matter?” Pulaski asked with mock concern. “Can’t keep track of your loverboy?” “He’s not—” Doyle started then sighed. What was the point of responding? It only made them worse. He went to his desk and sat down. “He was here early then he said he had some leads to run down and left,” O’Brien offered. “Did he say where?” “Nah, he’s kinda close mouthed, y’know?
