Chapter Ten Marceline’s smile never faded all through the ride in the cart. The ride itself was bumpy and uncomfortable, She had been tossed into the cart like an animal that was being taken to the zoo, and the only means for fresh air or any air at all was the small window that she used to see. Marceline couldn’t call it a window though, it was technically a little square cut out a bit over the shape of her eyes, It was not a window but having it was so important to her and she appreciated having the little access to the world that she did. The Triante Mansion was long gone when Marceline opened her eyes, Her memory was clear and she could remember asking to see her parents before she lost her composure and fainted for the 5th time that day. What woke her wasn’t a good well rest, but her head hitting the cage hard as the driver passed a bump, “Ouch”, She screeched her eyes prying themselves awake. At first it was dark , not so dark but she couldn’t see her feet and she wondered to herself, ‘Have I been put back in the cell’, but that wouldn’t explain her head hitting something, so she turned around in her uncomfortable position and looked to her left where she felt bright light coming from and she realised immediately. Marceline tried sitting up, Her hands were tied and she had just realized it, She couldn’t get up, She tried using both legs to get up by spreading them and then she realised, Her legs were tied to each other as well with just a feet apart. Marceline sighed and continued laying there for sometime. The cart bumped and bumped and so did her head hit the top causing her pain after pain. Marceline tried to evaluate herself as she sat alone in the dark moving carriage, “I messed up”, She said after a short while, “I really messed up”, She hissed out. It was true Marceline had messed up, She should never had gotten involved with Lowell, She knew the consequences it would bring and she still got involved with him and created this mess for herself. Despite that, Marceline knew she couldn’t put all the blame on Lowell, He wasn’t at fault, She was. She had attacked his mother and the woman had reacted as every slave owner would do, punish and punish till they have no will to live. Marceline chuckled, “I finally experienced it huh?”, She has finally experienced the harsh reality of slavery that her parents warned her about and she was the only one to blame. Marceline couldn’t cry, She didn’t cry often and never will, She was a fighter at least she thought so and no matter how bad her situation would be in Belrig, She was going to put up a good fight. Marceline tried to move her self with her hips, She moved once and then twice before getting close to the side of the carriage that had a small rest before she got closer to it and stopped moving and rested on the body of the cage. She pried upwards to look through the cage, They were passing through the main roads of Olrod, She saw people , Normal people who walked pass them , Some smiled while some didn’t but it warmed her heart regardless, it was the first time in a while that she had seen the outside and humans, Her world had been restricted by the Triante’s and she had no say in it. For the rest of the ride, Marceline tried to think of nothing but the people in front of her, She soaked it in as it might probably be the last time she saw any of it. Marceline saw the people slowly fade away as the approached the greens, From carts and people to plain but beautiful greenery. Marceline began seeing Greenery, Trees Forest and some wildlife like antelopes, It was fun to see and she laughed when she sighted and Antelope mother playing with her child it warmed her heart again. She kept herself entertained and was unaware when the cart pulled into a guarded compound. What brought her back to earth again was when the cart stopped and she heard someone step down. Her breath hitched and she moved away from the hole fast and sat up in the position where she had woken from. The person turned around and came close to the cart. He pulled at something from her left side and kept pulling till the cart opened and bright light blinded her immediately. Marceline blinked a few times, It was hard adjusting to the sudden rays of light but she did so automatically when she heard the stern, “Get Down Fast, I Do Not Have Time!’. The man in front of her had said it, It was one of Triante’s men and Marceline did not want to upset him. She tried her possible best by biting her lip and for forcing herself out of the small. Cage. Once she got out she fell back to the floor and he Kicked her in the ribs to push her away while he occupied her space with his legs stretched to close the door. Marceline winced holding her left side , but her eyes looked up to look around the unfamiliar place. There were carriages like hers all over the field, Guards stood around and watched the people in front of her, There were four ladies her age who stood with two people each and from their resemblance to them she could guess they were their parents, That raised a brow, What was happening here, It took a second but her question was answered when she saw a couple approaching her, Her eyes watered immediately, The woman had her hand crossed in front of her chest and the man walked slowly all the while looking around. His eyes paused when he laid eyes on Marceline’s and he tapped his wife who gasped. Daciana wasted no time and rushed to her child, She opened her hands and ran as fast as she could, As she got close to her she engulfed her daughter in a tight embrace and Marceline sunk into it without hesitation. “Marceline!!”, Daciana cried out as she placed kisses all around her face. Marceline let her and just fell into her mother’s hand even more. “You have just a minute”, The guard said forcing Marceline to pry her eyes open, She looked around to see the girls already departing from their parents. Marceline’s breath hitched and she cringed. Knowing she had little time Marceline rapped her words out, “I love you so much, I am sorry I messed up caused you pain but I promise you I will fight, I won’t die, I will live mummy and daddy, this is not the end, pray for me , I love you”. Marceline pulled away from her sobbing mother and Hugged her dad. Birdwolf sobbed as well but he hugged his daughter tight, She cringed from pain and Birdwolf sighed, They had hurt his princess and there was nothing he could do about it. “Marceline you have to fulfil your promise my child, please fight okay?”. Daciana said and Marceline nodded, “I will”. The guard did not have to drag Marceline, she moved on her own accord and slowly retreated from her parents, The guard didn’t take her to the cart she came in but one ahead where one of the girls was being pushed into. Marceline climbed onto the cart before turning slightly to see her parents one last time, once she did she smiled and entered the cart. She was going to live, She was promising herself this.
