CHAPTER 13
KHALID’S POV.
I furrowed my brows as I stared at the Physician.
I was obviously confused and surprised by what he said.
“How come there are other things I don’t know?” I couldn’t help but ask myself, as I sighed slowly.
“Why are you hiding the truth from me in the first place, when you know it’s still related to me,” I said, frowning, and he simply shrugged.
“You need not be faster than your shadows, your highness….” He said slyly, as I stared at him intently.
He chuckled and continued, “You managed to figure out the most important things yourself….so whenever the time is right, you’ll figure things out yourself,” The was Physician explained, but I was not having it.
“What does he mean?”
“That I sit quietly and watch things go haywire while I do nothing?” I spat angrily, and he breathed deeply, and began to pack his bags.
That was when I paid attention to him and noticed that he was done treating Megan and she slept peacefully.
A light smile crept on my face as I stared at her, happy that she was finally sleeping in peace without her face depicting pain.
“Just calm down, you’ll understand everything when the time is right,” He said, and the smile on my face suddenly vanished.
I facepalmed myself and shrugged as I stared at him intently.
He walked towards me as he gave me fond pats on my shoulder with a broad smile on his face…. “Everything would be revealed soon,” He said with a sly smile.
“I’m sure you also wouldn’t hide the fact that you know something about she having the scent of that man!” I said with a serious look on, and he simply chuckled.
I glared at the man before me, as I tried hard to keep my anger in deck.
There was no way I could harm or hurt him!
He was the only one who stood out for me in the midst of all my confusion, coupled with the fact that he was also an elderly man.
“You’ll find out everything soon, but you must know that I can’t tell you anything even if I'd like to,” He said and flashed me an innocent smile.
“Lest I forget, you should remember that she’s your mate and that’s what the bond was all about,” He added with a slight chuckle before he walked out of the room.
“I can’t tell you anything, even if I'd like to!” These words kept ringing in my ears and I became confused, coupled with the facts that he mentioned she was my mate.
I had thought about it, but I also had my doubts…so hearing it now was shocking.
Sighing deeply, I glanced over to where Megan laid and heaved deeply.
Something else was also related to this, and I was so sure about it!
She was my mate! But I wasn’t going to act on it.
I so much feared loosing Megan that I decided to keep it as a secret, and hoped I figure out everything quickly.
I hoped silently that whatever the head physician hid from me wasn’t news that would break me whenever I found out about it. Because I had gone through enough already, that I wouldn’t want to add to my problems.
I took another glance at Megan and sighed silently.
“Who would have believed that Megan wasn’t a human!” I asked myself, as my mind drifted back to when I had first met her.
She looked completely like a human, only for me to be shocked with the news that she was never a human but a werewolf.
“I hope she’s okay!” I muttered, and took a few steps closer to her, when a knock on the door made me halt abruptly.
“Who’s there?” I asked, and turned swiftly.
I had thought it was the head physician who had returned, probably to divulge any important information….
“Come in,” I said the moment I didn’t get any response, but I was disappointed when the door opened and revealed a maid.
I sighed deeply, still staring at her intently, as I wondered why she was there.
“Your highness, the elders seek your presence!” She announced, and my eyes widened.
“Are they still in the meeting room?” I asked her with shock written all over my face as she nodded.
It was already late at night, and I was left to wonder what they were still doing in my mansion.
I thought they had dispersed the moment I left searching for Megan, unknown to me that they were still around.
I waved my hands for the maid to go, as I stood slowly. I breathed deeply before walking out of the room, sparing Megan one more glance.
I walked downstairs anxiously, lost in thoughts, until I mistakenly bumped into a guard, and he shivered as he apologized with fear written all over his face.
“I’m sorry your highness,” The guard quickly knelt and began to apologize, but I walked out on him ignoring his pleas as I was bothered with something of more importance.
I got to the meeting room just to see each and every one of them with a frown on their faces, but I couldn’t care less.
“You sent for me?” I stood in their midst, so they could understand that I was rushing.
“Yes…” They trailed off and I sighed deeply.
“It’s getting late, so please hurry,” I said, and I noticed that they glanced at themselves before one of them stood up.
“Your highness, with all due respect…we sent for you just so you can hear our final decision…” He paused, but I continued instead.
“She isn’t going anywhere and that’s final,” I added intentionally because I knew it was surely related to Megan.
“She has to leave because we are not safe for as long as she’s here,” Another elder said and I laughed this time around, as they stared at me in utter confusion wondering what was making me laugh.
“And I said she’s not leaving!” I ordered and they breathed deeply.
“She’s not even a human to begin with,” I started, and they all froze for a minute.
“She’s a werewolf…just like each and every one of us,” I added, after I explained to her what happened in the forest, and they shook their head, disagreeing with what I had said.
“She’s a rogue wolf, and she has to leave!” They said in unison, as I clenched my fists angrily.
“She’s not a rogue wolf!” I spelled out with gritted teeth, and he chose to ignore me.
“That’s what you’ll always say because you’re constantly trying to save her,” One of the elders said, and that was when I gritted my teeth in anger.
“He said the absolute truth because—” Another one was saying, and that was when I lost my cool.
“She’s my mate!” I blurted out, without even realizing what I was saying.
