Turns out nobody killed Mr. Tilton. As usual, he was drunk last night and went to pee in the girl's restroom. But this time, he got unlucky. Somebody had spilt a handwash in the toilet, which is why he slipped and hit the back of his head on the toilet seat.
After I gave my statement to Tony—YES, Tony was assigned to Mr. Tilton's case—I went back to my apartment, the employee's quarters. Inderjit also followed me to my apartment. Mom was already there. She left all her work and rushed in to see me. She said she'll come to college but I requested her to stay at home and wait for me.
"Are you fine, pumpkin?" She caressed my sweat-soaked wet hair. "Oh, my poor baby. Go clean yourself. I'll make you a hot chicken noodles soup."
"Okay." I gave her a dry reply. I didn't have any energy to talk, and my mom noticed it. She didn't ask for any details and left to buy chickens. "Okay, pumpkin. I'll be back in a few minutes." She looked at Inderjit and added, "Boy, take care of her."
I went to the bathroom and cleared myself. I don't know what's more disgusting; being drenched in a dead man's blood or drenched in a pervert like Mr. Tilton's blood. But whatever it was, I needed to clear this out.
I rubbed and rubbed my skin, I did it so hard that I started seeing the red rashes all over my body. I wanted to clear my head, so I closed my eyes and tried to find another topic to focus on. I could feel every drop of water landing on my bare body, but then I saw this weird flashback: "Good night, Peach." Kol softly caressed my cheek and tucked my hair behind my ear.
What the f**k? When did that happen? The flashback wasn't clear enough, but it felt so real and true. Did it happen last night when I visited his office?
Some knocked at my bathroom door, interrupting my thoughts. "Becca! I'm back, love." It was my mom. "It's been fifteen minutes, dear. Don't spend too much time in the shower, you might get cold."
I grabbed my bathrobe and came out. "I'm out, Mom."
"Oh, thank god. Get out of my way. I really need to pee." Inderjit pushed me aside and rushed into the bathroom.
While he was in the bathroom, I went to my room and changed into something comfy. A huge, XL men-sized "Scarysaurs" T-shirt. The funny cartoon of scared dinosaurs printed on it was exactly my vibe right now.
I was blow-drying my hair when Inderjit entered my room. "Wow! Scarysaurs. I also have a t-shirt like that but mine says, "Sleepysaurs" because I'm kinda sleepy every time."
He was proudly claiming his laziness which twitched a muscle in my jaw. "Yesterday, you did clean the restroom properly, didn't you?"
"Yes, Didi. I did clean the whole building, including all the restrooms. I remember it clearly. I might feel sleepy, but I'm not careless. I'll never cheat on my work." He replied. Disappointment can be seen clearly on his face. He was disappointed because I doubted his loyalty.
"Oh, I'm sorry. So much has happened. I'm so stressed. I'm an i***t to doubt you." I apologized to him.
"It's okay, Didi. I would have done the same if I was in your place. Well.." Curiosity has crept over his face. "From the word "doubt" I have something to ask you."
"What? Speak up?"
"Kol James Morgan."
My face turned hot red when I heard his name. I started remembering our heartbeat-synchronizing hug and the weird but cute flashback that I got in the shower.
"HEY! Where are you lost?" Inderjit snapped me out of my flashbacks.
"Yeah, I'm here." I retorted, trying to cool out the hotness which I felt after hearing his name.
"So… what's going on between you two? Why was he referring to you as his FRIEND? When did you two get so close?" His eyes sparkled. "And what the hell was that statement? You were with him? The whole night? At his office? What's happening? I wanna know all. Tell me from the beginning."
I huffed out and said, "So, in the beginning, I interacted with him for the first time when he saved me from falling from a ladder—"
"Oh—I sort of know that story. Tell me after the coffee shop scene." He demanded.
Well, it was true that he knew the story till the coffee shop scene. I told him myself. But because he demanded me to tell everything from the beginning, I started from the first.
"So after I left Thea at the five-star restaurant…" I started telling him the rest of the story about me and Kol.
YESTERDAY AT SANIDALE ORPHANAGE HOME…
I was on my way to donate all the foods which I got from the five-star restaurant.
My hands were filled with the piled-up boxes of food, making a huge tower. It was so tall that I couldn't even see the way in front of me.
"Do you need some help, Miss?" A kind of familiar male voice asked.
"Yeah, sure. Please, help with these boxes." I requested.
"Okay," The man grabbed some piles of boxes, reducing the length and weight of the huge tower of food in my hand.
"Now I can see my way. Thank you, Miste— Kol?" Curiosity hit my brain. "What are you doing here? Are you following me?"
"Following you? Really, Becca? It's not me who kissed forcefully. Rang some bell?" He arched his eyebrow.
"Wel—what are you doing here, then?"
"I frequently come here to visit little kids—why do I have to explain anything to you? And why are you following me?"
"I'm not following you. I also frequently come here to visit these little kids. And today I bought some—"
He cut me off saying, "If you visit here so frequently then how come we never met each other?"
"Well, I don't know. Maybe—"
"You should just admit the fact that you're following me."
"I am NOT following you," I yelled at him.
"Aunt Becca…" A little boy ran towards me and hugged me tight in my waist.
"Aww, Paul." I somehow managed to free my one of hands and caressed his soft hair.
I proudly looked at Kol, my eyes showing VICTORY! Even though he claims to visit here frequently, the kids here like me more than him. But then another little girl ran towards Kol saying, "Uncle Kol…"
"Jenna.." Kol leaned down, placed the food box beside him, and spread his arms, his eyes were sparkling as the little girl hugged him and he lift her in his arms.
"We'll miss you, Uncle Kol." The little girl kissed him on his cheek. It was one of the cutest scenarios of my life. His pure smile and ocean-blue eyes weren't competitive like mine. It was pure bliss.
A little teensy, weeny part of me kinda felt jealous. Okay! That kiss proves nothing, he is a handsome man. That cunning little girl is just taking advantage of her age and cuteness to kiss a handsome man. There is no way Kol can beat me in case of being the kid's favorite.
One of the orphanage helpers approached us following the kids. "I'm sorry for the trouble." He took the food boxes from my hand and said, "Ma'am, sir, Please, this way."
Kol and I started following him. A small laugh escaped from both of us for our quick and foolish judgments.
"I'm sorry, I accused you of following me." I apologized.
"I'm sorry, too for accusing you and being rude with you." He apologized back with the most popular Kol James Morgan smile. God, he looks so good when he smiles. Pepper is so lucky to have him.
A brain cell twitched as I heard my thoughts. "Pepper is so lucky to have him." Why did I say her name? I hate the word PEPPER and hate her the most. I can never forgive her for what she did.
After taking revenge from Garry and Thea, my mind, my soul, my heart, all three of them were craving for more REVENGE. Maybe the reason I still can't calm my hunger for revenge is because there is one more revenge remaining to take. Revenge is the only medicine that can heal the wound given by scumbags like Garry, Thea, and Pepper. That day, in the coffee shop, I kissed Kol because I wanted to take revenge on Pepper but the embarrassment, the wounds, the fear, and the disrespect Pepper gave to me is nothing compared to the kiss. I want more. I want Kol James Morgan to breakup with Pepper for me and after that when she'll stare at us, I want to say, "Get your f*****g eyes off of my man."
I, Rebecca Rogers, promise myself that I'll snatch her most important thing from Pepper and I'll make sure, it will hurt her as hell. I'll tempt Kol James Morgan to break up with Pepper Woods. I'll rip off her unwanted obsession, salt her jealousy, fuel her pain, and burn her heart.
"Ah-umm, I think we should stop fighting and be a really good friends." I offered to Kol. After all, if I want to tempt Kol then I have to be close to him.
"Absolutely! I was just about the suggest the same idea." Kol smiled.
"So…, FRIENDS?" I extended my arm for a friendly handshake.
"FRIENDS," He grabbed my hand and shook it, a friendly handshake. The deal of trust and loyalty can be seen through his eyes but in my mind, I can only see the way to my new revenge.
We reached the main hall and the helper started serving food to the children. The smile and happiness on those kids' faces were priceless. Sometimes I wish I was rich enough to adopt all of these kids. They are so adorable. They get happy by little to littlest things. They are so honest, pure, and soul-touching.
"Ah-umm, Becca. I think I need to leave. It was nice knowing your new side." Kol said after he checked his phone.
"Same here, FRIEND." I gave him a warm friendly smile.
After playing a little bit with those beautiful souls, now it was time to leave. I have lots of work on my schedule. I've already missed the cleaning shift for the evening session, I can't afford to miss others. Inderjit will get tired of handling it all alone.
THE SAME EVENING AT MG CORP GLOBAL,
We suddenly got a late urgent call from MG Crop Global. Turns out the two workers, who were in charge of cleaning department got food poisoning which is why they had to hire us urgently. Rumour has it, The CEO, AKA Kol's dad is too strict in the case of cleanliness.
It was the first time I ever visited Kol's office. It was big and lavish. It’s a huge ten-story office building, all curved glass, and steel, an architect’s utilitarian fantasy, with MORGAN GROUPS written discreetly in steel over the glass front doors. It was half past six when we arrived, greatly relieved that we were not late as I walk into the enormous—and frankly intimidating—glass, steel, and white sandstone lobby.
I took the elevator and landed on the top floor.
"Clean it properly, MG Crop could be our next biggest client." My mom said it on the phone.
"Okay, Mom. Bye. I'll do my job properly." I hung her call.
After cleaning the whole building for the last three hours, we finally completed our work and we're about to leave. We had a 9:30 cleaning scheduled at SUBA for morning sessions.
"Oops! Looks like I lost my phone." I said as I checked my pocket to find my phone.
"Nah, you might have dropped it somewhere when you were busy cleaning. It happens to me every time."
"Oh, yeah. I guess I left it on the top floor when I was talking to Mom."
"Go and get it ASAP! I'll be waiting for you."
"Kay," I rushed into the elevator.
I was on the top floor searching for my phone, when I heard my ringtone. I rushed in that direction and grabbed my phone. Inderjit was calling me on it.
"Yeah, speak up," I replied as I received the call.
"Nothing, I just called so that you could find it easily via your ringtone." Inderjit retorted.
"Wow! Good job, smarty pants."
"Ha-ha, now come fast. I'm waiting for you."
I hung up his call and was shoving my phone into my pocket. When someone from back lopped his/her strong— I think it's "his"—arm around my neck. "Who are you? What are you doing here? Are you here to steal something?" The man with a strong arm flooded with questions. Bullspit! He was choking me to death.
I was struggling and trying to escape from his tight grip, but I couldn't. He was so strong. "I'm… just… cleaning." I somehow managed to say.
"Lie! We don't have female cleaning staff at our office." Wait a minute! This voice was kinda familiar. Kol? Is this Kol James Morgan?
"Kol?" I asked, still struggling.
"You know me? Who are you?" He asked.
Fucking i***t! If he had just looked at my face before attacking me from back then he would have known who I am.
"It's..me... Re...Becca," f**k! I'm out of breath. If he won't release me in the next couple of seconds then I'll just kick him on his balls.
"Rebecca?" He released his arm immediately. "What are you doing here?" He said as he tugged at his shirt collar
"I'm here for cleaning," I replied, holding my neck. That son of a b***h choked me so hard.
He looked at the red make on my neck and said regretfully, "Does it hurt? I'm really really sorry, Becca."
DOES IT HURT? Huh! Is that even a question to ask? He was literally choking me to death. "It's okay. I'm fine."
"I'm really sorry. The way you were shoving something in your pocket looked like you were stealing something—not that I'm accusing you of theft—but I just got defensive when my brain gave me the wrong idea."
"You mean, "offensive" right?" I replied sarcastically.
"I'm sorry." He facepalmed, trying to hide his face crept with the guilt of his foolishness.
"It's okay. Next time, just be less stupid." Again another sarcastic reply, but this time I was just pulling his leg.
We glanced at each other's eyes and then laughed at our funny interaction. "We always meet like this, didn't we?" I asked.
"Yeah, Becca: The Girl in Trouble."
"Kol: The Knight in Need." I gave another thought to today's incident and added, "But this time you were five seconds closer to being, Kol: The Murderer"
"I'm sorry." He apologized again.
"Oh, it's okay and.." I rested my hands on my hip, "If you'll apologize once more then I might just die due to an overdose of apologies." We both chuckled.
"Well..you have—" He pointed to the corner of his neck, "Some scratches on your neck. Maybe it's because of my cufflinks."
"Oh! It's okay. I didn't even feel anything."
"Ah-umm, wait a minute." He went inside his office and brought a first-aid box.
Oh, NO! Disinfectant! I hate them. "You don't have to do this for me. I'm late. I need to leave." I tried to run off before I could feel the burning sensation of disinfectant on my neck.
"You're not going anywhere until I band-aid you." He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him. His pull was so strong, his one pull was enough for me to bump into him.
We were so close, that I could feel his breath that fluttered my heart. I can feel butterflies in my stomach. His ocean blue eyes, deep and expressive, where you could get lost if you stared long enough. He was elegant in every way, and I wished I could capture his looks forever.
He was blowing my neck so that the disinfectant won't hurt. Maybe, he might have guessed that I hate disinfectant, but the way his light rose pink lips were blowing the exquisite pressure of air on the surface of my neck, I could peel off my whole skin and drench myself in the disinfectant so that I could feel that same exquisite pressure of air in my whole body.
"It's done." He interrupts my wild thoughts as he puts a band-aid on my neck.
"Tha—Thank…you." I stammered. I could feel the burning sensation in my body. As if it was on fire. I was feeling so hot and wild that I wanted to push him against the cubicle, rip open his button-up shirt and start French kissing him passionately.
"Kol, Babe. What are you doing? Why is it taking you so long to get your files?" I heard Pepper's voice. Her footsteps were approaching the office through the hallway.
"Oh, s**t! I think you need to hide." Kol panicked.
"Why would I hide?" I shrugged. "It's not that we are something unholy behind her back."
"You don't understand. She kinda gets mad when she finds me with other women. No matter what the reason is."
"Then it's her who should understand. I'm just doing my job, and I'll leave holding my heads up with dignity."
"It's not about your dignity. It's about your safety. I don't want you to have trouble like last time."
"Well, you know what? You and Pepper should go and f**k yourself. And you better inform her; The old Becca is dead, and if that holy guacamole Pepper will even try to do something funny with me, then I'm gonna break her bones." The moment it released from my mouth, I realized how dumb that reply was.
Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat! Why did I say that? How can I threaten a man about breaking his girlfriend's bones? God! He's gonna choke me to death for real.
"Damn, Becca." He growled. "It's not time for a movie dialogue, dammit." He took a deep breath, "f**k it!" He then grabbed my hand, pulled me closer, and lifted me in his arms, "I'm sorry, but you're gonna thank me later."
"Hey, put me down." I struggled. "I'm gonna scream and your attempt to hide me from Pepper will be fail."
"You're not gonna do that, Peach." His smile came off as both polite and menacing.
Well, he was indeed right. I'm not gonna do that. I was just bluffing. I don't like creating dramas. But, what the hell with the new nickname? "Peach" sounds heart-fluttering and unethical at the same time. I mean, the one he should give nicknames is Pepper, not me.
'Dumb, Becca! Isn't it good that he is giving you the nicknames which he should give to that vicious Pepper? You are already one step ahead of tempting Kol to break up with Pepper.' My inner voice spoke to me in my head.
However, my inner voice was right. If I wanna have my revenge, then I must attract Kol instead of being dumb and pushing him away.
He dropped me down after we reached inside his office. He locked me from outside and left with Pepper. A teeny tiny part of me kinda felt bad when he left with her. But, the devilish vengeful side of me was happy that Kol was hiding things from Pepper. He is in the first step to a breakup: Hiding things from your partner.
After he left with Pepper, I checked my phone. I have got a text message from Inderjit.
Inderjit: Didi, are you fine? What's taking you so long?
Me: Hey, I think I'm gonna be busy. You should go and start cleaning SUBA.
Inderjit: What? Why?
Me: Just… Please manage without me.
Inderjit: KK
I know, I should have called Inderjit and tell him to unlock me. But, I didn't because I wanted Kol to come again for me. I want him to feel guilty for locking me in so that he will try his hard to make it up to me.
I was waiting and WAITING for Kol to come and unlock the door. It has been more than half an hour. What in the hell is taking him so long?
I was feeling tired from cleaning the entire ten-story crystal-white building. So, I lay on the couch in his office. No, I'm not sleeping, I'll just take a little nap until Kol arrives.
MANY MANY HOURS LATER…
I opened my eyes. Kol was sleeping in front of me, on his chair. Shut the front door! There is no way he slept the whole night like that. It looks very uncomfortable, though.
However, he was looking even more handsome while sleeping. The first two buttons of his shirt were off, revealing his super sexy collarbone, which was tempting me to climb in his lap and leave a love bite.
I was blushing on my own thoughts, but then I saw a wall clock in his office. A chill crept all over my body, swirling my thoughts.
It's 7: 49 AM.
Holy crap! I'm late. Mom's gonna kill me if I'll miss one more shift this week.
Taking revenge is important, but defending myself from Mom's vicious ear-bleeding taunts and lectures is more important.
I quietly woke up and rushed towards the elevator, leaving behind the deliciously handsome Kol James Morgan sleeping uncomfortably on his chair.
PRESENT DAY…
"Wow! That's hot! Are you sure you wanna tempt Kol for revenge?" Inderjit asked.
"What do you mean?" I retorted.
"I mean, the way you described him, I don't think it's just "Revenge. " It's more than that. I guess you like him."
"Shut up! I don't like him." I slowly punched him on his shoulder. "Well, he is handsome indeed. I was just stating the facts."
When I heard my own voice "stating the facts," I remembered mine and Kol's first conversation:
"You know, you kinda look cute when you are frustrated."
"Are— are you flirting with me?"
"NO! I already have a girlfriend. I don't flirt with anyone except her." He opened the store room's door and added, "In your case.." He placed the paint box and brush on the stand. "I just stated the fact."
The flashbacks of our old conversations unknowingly brought a red-hot flush to my face.
"Oh my god! Look who's blushing... Ou-hou, Kol. James. Morgan." Inderjit started to tease me.
"Kids, the soup is ready. Come on, dig in." Mom screamed from the kitchen.
"We're coming, Mom." I retorted to change the topic about KOL JAMES MORGAN!
To be continued…
