Chapter 12 : Kol

3678 Words
After meeting Becca at the orphanage, she fascinates me even more. Rebecca Rogers is something more than amazing. She is hardworking, smart, talented, beautiful, kind, and many more that I can't even describe in words. Her doctor boyfriend is too lucky to have her, and I also kinda like her—NO! Not as love or something—I like her because she is a really good person. We rich people spend 3% to 5% of our income on charities so that we can feel better for helping those in need. But Becca, she is different. She buys cheap, simple, and dull clothes for herself but still participates in donations. I'm sure she must spend 30% to 40% of her income on donations. To be honest, in the case of humanity, she is way better and wealthier than us. No wonder why Pepper gets jealous of her. I never liked Pepper's over-possessive and jealous nature, but in the case of Becca, I can understand her because sometimes, I also get jealous of Becca's perfect complexion. YESTERDAY AT MY OFFICE, I know I shouldn't hide her. We didn't do anything wrong. We were just having a friendly conversation like good friends, but Pepper would never understand it. She never did, neither in high school nor now. "Kol, Babe. What are you doing? Why is it taking you so long to get your files?" When I heard Pepper's voice and her footsteps approaching the office through the hallway, I panicked. I can't trust Pepper's mood. One moment, she acts like everything is super fine, and another moment, I get to know that she did something very cruel due to her so-called over possessiveness. It felt cute at first. Agree or not, but we all want someone to be protective for us, love us like no one would have ever thought of, gets jealous like a little baby, fight with us like Jerry fights with Tom, make expression like a little kitten when they get angry and make a cute puppy face when they need us to stay. But incase of Pepper, with the flow of time, she got protective like a psycho stalker, started getting jealous like a movie vamp, aruged like a deaf person; no matter what ever you say in your defense, she just hears what she wanna hear and incase of expressions, she has done PhD in fake expressions, you'll never know what she wanna say or what's her f*****g next move. I know my statement gives a hint of "I'm not happy with her," and "I should break up." But, I don't believe in break-ups. I never had. There was a moment when she used to be sweet little Pepper, who was kind and sweet. She had lots of trauma in her life, and she just needs some time to recover. I'm sure my love will bring back the old sweet little Pepper. I just need to have a little bit of patience. I have already waited for three years and will wait a few more. After all, it won't harm to wait. However, Pepper will cause a huge drama if she sees me and Becca alone in my office, and the irony is that she behaves like she understands, she has changed, and she trusts me. But later on, she'll do whatever her evil toxic personality says AKA Paranoid personality disorder (PPD). I guess all the women are supposed to be paranoid. A moment earlier, Becca was that sweet, innocent, understanding, funny, and sarcastic girl. But the moment I requested her to hide, she started getting all fuelled and furious. "I'll leave holding my heads up with dignity." Oh my goddess, I know you're Becca: The Brave, but she is Pepper: The leader of SUBA Bullies, and I don't want you to get bullied by her paranoid personality. Becca was being too stubborn. I had no other options other than lift and lock her in my office. "I'm sorry. But I promise, I'll be back to unlock you." Luckily, I made it in time. I locked her before Pepper could see us. "Babe, did you get the files?" She asked. "UmmmmNO! I didn't. It's not here. I was searching it everywhere so…" I was scared to hell. God, I hope Becca won't shout. I really can't trust women's mood. "Oh, let me check." Her palm was about to touch the doorknob. "NO! No…need." Words escaped in rush. My mind was trying its best to get an idea to get her away from my office's door. "Leave it. It's not that urgent. Tomorrow, I'll ask Joseph to search for it." "Okay, let's go home." She started to walk out, and I followed her. "Yeah, let's leave." Thank god! AT MY CAR.. "Babe! wait wait wait wait wait. See there, ice cream. Let's have it." "No, Pep." I was driving via one way. I can't go back. "You should have said sooner. Now we have to wait for the U-turn and drive back." I kinda felt bad for not being able to fulfill her wish, so I added, "Anyway, roadside food is not good for your health. I'll take you to the nearest five-star ice cream parlor. How do Baskin-Robbins sound?" "Boring!" She made a bored face. "We used to have so much fun in childhood. There was always something different about eating roadside ice creams." "Fine." I can never win with her, and I kinda miss our old days. "We'll have to wait for the U-turn." Happiness beamed on her face. "I love you, babe." "Love you too." I smiled back. That's the Pepper I know. The Pepper who finds happiness in little to littlest things. The Pepper who isn't my possessive girlfriend, but my little childhood best friend. Half an hour later, after we had our roadside ice cream date, I dropped Pepper in her home and went back to the office. I was again scared to death. Oh, god! I don't know what Becca will do to me? I locked her alone in my office. She must be scared. 'Oh no, stupid. She must have called her sidekick. He must have gotten her out, and they must have left.' My inner voice spoke to me in my head. Well, if she was smart enough, then sure, she had called someone. But what if she didn't? I locked her without her consent. It's my responsibility to check. I clicked the elevator's button to the top floor. As soon as the elevator's door opened, I rushed towards my office. I unlocked the door, hoping she was gone. But NO, she was there. She waited for me. She trusted me. She trusted me to come back. She was sleeping on my couch. Her innocent little face was covered by a few strands of her hair. "She's sleeping like a baby." I said to myself. I extended my arm to shake her awake, but then my inner voice said, 'Come on, Kol. Don't be so ruthless. Look at her. She looks so tired. She must have done lots of work today. If you'll wake her, then she will run to work again. Let her sleep like a little baby.' My inner voice was right. If I woke her, she'll run to work. She works so much, and sometimes she deserves to rest. I won't wake her. She was wearing a tank top. She must feel cold. I took off my coat and covered her upper body. Her hairs strands on her face looked like they're gonna itch her, so I brushed them off and tucked it behind her ear. "Good night, Peach." Words escaped from my mouth. Woah! What's wrong with me? Why am I giving her nicknames? 'May be because she tastes like peach.' My inner voice spoke in my head. 'f**k! Shut up, you stupid.' I said to my inner voice. God! What am I doing? I'm arguing with myself like an insane person. Gosh! Rebecca Rogers, you drive me crazy. I brought my COO chair infront of couch and sat there, watching her. I don't know what should I do next. I can't just leave her alone sleeping her in my office. What if, a thief barge in and hurt her? What if, she'll have nightmares and wake up in the middle of night? What if, she wake up in middle of night and go home alone in dark? I can't risk that. I have to stay here with her…I have to….take…care…of…her…Zzzzzz. MANY MANY HOURS LATER, PRESENT DAY… I yawned as I opened my eyes. My neck was hurting as if someone snapped it like in vampire diaries. I don't know when I fell asleep. But when I woke up, she was gone. "Atleast she could have left a 'Thank-you' note." I said to myself. I took a glance at my wrist watch.. 8:45 AM! Oh my god, my cafe!!! How can I be so careless? I was supposed to open it at 5 AM. Damn! I couldn't wake up early because I didn't set the alarm. Whenever I sleep somewhere else otherthan my house, I used to set an alarm for 4:30AM but yesterday, I forgot! *I GOT A NOTIFICATION* SUBA Online Notice: Dear student, SUBA has decided to dismiss today's classes due to untimely demise of our very own professor, Mr. Bryce Tilton. Hope his soul will rest in peace. Thank you. User5523: RIP User5372: Oh no, RIP legend. User0929: Legend my ass, XD. User6373: Finally, he did one great thing before dying. He gave us a holiday. LOL. User3997: Burn on pervert! TBH, He doesn't even deserve a mourning holiday. User5372: Don't be so rude, he is dead now. User3997: Rude my ass! You must like sucking his c**k but I don't. User5372: Just because name of users are anonymous, that doesn't mean you'll talk anything you like. A good hacker can still track you. User3997: Why? Do suck his c**k too? XD User0929: LOL. XD. f**k off, 5372. What the f**k is wrong with these students? How can they make fun of someone's dead. Morons! If it wasn't for college's notifications, I would never join this group. User9299: Hey, do you guys know that cleaner girl? My eyes darted on chat when I saw "Cleaner girl". They must be talking about Becca. User3997: Yeah, the topper. Her name is Becca, I gusss. Why? User9299: I think she killed Mr. Tilton. What the f**k! Why would Becca kill him? She was with me, for the whole night. User6373: NO WAY! She looks too innocent. I don't think she is the killer. User3997: Well that's why they say, 'Don't judge a book from its cover'. Me: She didn't do it. She is INNOCENT. User3997: How can you be so sure 1101? Me: I just know it. She is innocent. She didn't do it. So, please stop spreading fake rumor about her! User3997: Hey, are you Rebecca? Me: NO, I'm not but I'm her friend. User9299: Must be that Indian guy. User3997: You mean 'Inderjit'? User9299: May be. Me: I'm not Inderjit either. Just stop spreading fake rumors about her! If you won't then I'll get the top hacker of Sanidale, get all your names and then will make sure my lawyer will sue you for defamation and still, if you'll be lucky enough to get away with court's penalties then I'll make sure that I'll f**k the hell out of your life. It's useless to aruge with them. I'm just gonna ignore it. I was about to trun off my phone but then I saw User9299's next message. User9299: Chill down, 1101. I didn't mean to defame her. I just saw her in college. Officers where taking her statements. She was all shivering and trembling, cover with blood. So, I just had a wild guess. What the f**k! She was covered with blood? When I read that line, I couldn't control myself. I drove my car and just rushed into the college. I don't know why, I was screaming her name wildly. I was so scared and worried for her. I don't know, why do I feel this kinda bond with her? Whenever she's in problems, I could literally feel my heart stop pumping, tearing apart and brain, ripping. I was searching for her like a madman. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't think, the only thing I could do is scream, "Becca! Becca!" And then I saw her, standing there, it all pushed back together, and the blood pumped. I approached her with the speed of light and the touch of her safety, the sound of her calming heartbeat, the feel of her breath made me feel whole. Oh, Rebecca Rogers, what did you do to me? Why am I bound to you? Why my heartbeat is connected to you, why are they synchronising perfectly, as if it's made for eachother. "Ah-umm, excuse me? Is everything fine?" An officer asked. Breaking our hug, Becca replied, "Ah-umm, yeah—um, yeah. Everything is fine, Tony." Tony? She knows this officer? And the way she said his name, sounds like they're pretty close. "Who are you?" He asked, looking at me. "I'm..her.." I glanced at Becca. "FRIEND, I'm her friend" I looked back at him, our eyes competing with each other. "And..a student of SUBA. Kol James Morgan." "Oh! Well, Mr. Jame—" "You can call me Mr. Morgan." "Can I know where you were last night, Mr. Morgan?" "I was in my office." "Whole night?" "Whole night. You can ask Becca. She can confirm this for me." "What do you mean?" "I mean, I was with Becca. Whole night." Damn! Why did I say that? "So, he is the friend you were referring to?" He was looking at us suspiciously. Becca noticed his suspicion and added, "Ah-umm, yeah, he is the friend—but—it's not like you think. He locked me in his office." "What?" His eyes were demanding explanations from me. "Ah-umm—NO! Not in a criminal way, but as a friend, he locked me in. It's was a friendly lock up…" I bet she must be regretting her words. LOL! "It's all you fault! You shouldn't lock me in or at least should have woke me up." She complained in whisper. "I tried to wake you, but I couldn't. You were sleeping peacefully, and I didn't want to disturb you." I whispered back to her. "Still, you should have woken me up." Her dark brown eyes were locked with mine when Tony interrupted, "Hummm, it looks like you two have some unfinished business. You guys can carry on." Before he left, he walked beside her, leaned down towards her earlobe, and whispered, "Congratulations for your new would-be boyfriend." "No, it's not like you think…" She started following him, but I don't know why I grabbed her arm and pulled her near me. "He doesn't need your explanation." She removed her arm from my grasp and said, "Well, he is one of my nicest friends, and I don't need your permission to talk to him." She was right. I don't have any right to stop her, and she doesn't need my permission. But I don't know why, when she left me to follow him, I felt so bad. I couldn't stand there and watch them smiling and talking to each other. So, I left. 8: 30 PM, AT BREW & BAKE "Kol, it's Macchiato. She ordered Doppio." Lorna corrected me. I looked at the coffee mug and then at the order sheet, "Oh, sorry! Just remove the foam and add some more expresso." Such unprofessional advice. I must have gone mad. "NO! Have you gone mad? We are the Michelin Star Cafe. We can't serve our customers like this. Re-make it." Lorna gave me a crystal clean expresso cup. I don't know why I'm having this mood swing, and why is it so strong? In the past, no matter how bad my mood would be, just a sniff of a strong coffee could change it like magic. But today, it's different. Even the smell of the finest coffee couldn't help my anger. What kinda feeling is this? Why was she smiling at that officer? Why the f**k am I thinking about her? My mind was distracted by my swirling thoughts. Instead of holding the coffee cup by it's handle, I grabbed the hot body of the cup. "f**k! Who the hell drinks double expresso at night?" I snapped in anger as I burned my hand and dropped the cup. "What the hell is wrong with you, boy?" Lorna retorted, her face went pale as she saw my burned, flush red palm. "Oh, no!" She immediately grabbed some ice cubes from the refrigerator, "Here, rub them." I was rubbing ice on palm when Lorna filled a glass with tap water and added some slushy ice. I was confused. What the hell is she making? She calmly approached me and surprisingly poured it all on me. "Hope it helps to cool you down, boy." I was shocked. "What the f**k, Lorna?" "Rule No.1 of BREW & BAKE: We serve hot coffee not a hot temper." She replied. Lorna was my grandmother's assistant. She was twenty four when she first joined BREW & BAKE. After me and grandmother, if there is someone who genuinely love BREW & BAKE, then that's Lorna. FOURTEEN YEARS AGO… Lorna was 24 years old divorced homeless women. She had nowhere to go until one day she met us. Grandma and I were returning back from the market when we saw two men bullying Lorna. My grandma wasn't the kind of person who ignored people in trouble, and neither was I. We both jumped at those bullies like a wild tiger and beat the s**t out of them. "Thank you so much for saving me." Lorna said with eyes full of tears. "It's okay, lady. Go home. Your family must be worried for you." Grandma replied. "I don't have anyone to refer as FAMILY." The tears couldn't stop from her eyes. "Hey, chill down, lady. Come, I'll give you something to eat." Grandma wiped her tears, and we went to BREW & BAKE. We had recently opened this place. BREW & BAKE. It itself sounds like dreams come true. Grandma made her some baked oats and Irish coffee. Lorna was so hungry that she couldn't even wait as second before taking another bite. "Hunger is such a sacry thing, right?" Grandma asked. "Yes, it's hideous." She muffled, her mouth was stuffed with baked oats. "But, you can get away from it if you want to." She stopped chewing, "How?" "Work for me. Be my assistant." Grandma offered. "But I don't know anything about baking or brewing." "You don't have to. I just want you to be the face of my cafe." "Pardon?" She gave a confused look. "We will soon launch an opening party for this cafe. But, I can't be the host. My identity is supposed to be a secret, so I want you to be the face. In front of the whole world, you'll be the owner, but behind the table, you'll be my assistant and my cover." "I need some time to think." "You'll have three." "Three days?" "Three seconds." "ONE," "TWO," "THREE, Your times up. Offer expired" "Okay, okay. I'll do it." "As I said, Offer expired!" "Please, give me another chance. Please. I promise I'll never let you down." Lorna begged. "Fine," a small, triumphant smile spread across grandma's face. Grandma was a real businessperson. She knew how to solve her problems and increase her value. PRESENT DAY… From that day to now, Lorna has been loyal to my grandma and BREW & BAKE. Yeah, "my grandma and BREW & BAKE", not me. If I do anything funny that can affect BREW & BAKE's reputation, then she'll go all wild, just like today. Trust me! She pisses me so much that I wanna yell at her, and sometimes I even wanna fire her, but then, after my anger calms down, I realise whatever she did was right. Also, in the name of family, I have grandpa, mom, dad, and my workers. But for Lorna, it has always been BREW & BAKE. If it wasn't for grandma's will, Lorna was all ready to buy it. My grandma was a really good boss, with in these fourteen years, she had paid handsomely to Lorna. Not just money but lots of skills too. Lorna is rich and skilled enough to open her own new cafe, but she still works here as an assistant because she loves it here. "I'm sorry, Lo." I apologized out of respect. If it was someone else, other than Lorna, then I could have literally kicked them out. "Doppio. Again. Right now. I don't want any mistakes this time." She ordered. The f**k! I can't even handle one employee at my cafe, how am I going to run the MG Corp? "Here's the Doppio." I informed Lorna. "Good boy." She smiled and took it to serve the customer. *MY CELL PHONE RANG* It was Pepper. "Hey, Pepsi." I received the call. "Why are you so bad with nicknames?" The voice was familiar, but didn't sound like Pepper. "Excuse me, Who's this?" I asked for clarification. "It's me. Becca. I need your help." What the—why is Becca calling me from Pepper's phone? Did Pepper know about last night? Is she bullying Becca again? Wait a minute! If Pepper was bullying Becca then why did she gave her phone to Becca? "Well, you know what? You and Pepper should go and f**k yourself. And you better inform her; The old Becca is dead, and if that holy guacamole Pepper will even try to do something funny with me, then I'm gonna break her bones." I remembered Becca's statement from last night. Damn! Did she really do what she claimed? f**k! Did she hurt Pepper? Why god, why? Why all the violent womens are supposed to be in my life? To be continued…
