CHAPTER 9

1103 Words
ARYA'S POV My room was a mess as I walked in. Everything I had arranged in my room had been turned upside, including the drawer I had placed Andre's business card in. I was glad to find it still locked, as I went to where I had hidden the key to the locker underneath the rug and brought it out. Staring at the disarray of my room again, I knew the werewolf gangs didn't have to be this petty but they were desperately searching for me last night. The thought of that was a good motivation for me not to fail in my request to live temporarily with Andre. I dialled his number quickly on Henry's phone as I waited for it to ring. It rang after a few seconds and I took in a deep breath in anticipation of hearing his familiar baritone voice. "Hello, my name is Ashley Park. Welcome to SYNAPSE". "Who am I speaking with and how may I be of assistance?" I listened as a female voice spoke over the phone. I hadn't called Andre before and I was taken aback by the sound of her voice, I was expecting to hear that of Andre's. "Hi...I am Arya Miles". "I am sorry but I thought I was calling Andre Williams' personal line, he is the one I actually wanted to speak with". I replied. I had thought Andre had been kind enough to give me his personal phone number. "I understand Arya, you don't need to apologise. I am actually his personal assistant and I can get across to him on your behalf". She noted, her kind words giving me a bit of hope I could get across to him this morning. "Thank you". "Please, it is sort of urgent. Can you tell him I am on the phone to speak with him?" I asked. I knew he was an important man but I hoped he wasn't in a meeting. "Sure I will. Please hold on while I get across to him". She instructed, muting the call. I stood in the mess of my room as I waited for her return. I would have loved to pace around to calm my nerves based on the audacious request I was about to make but there was no room to do that unless I would bump into something. "Hello Arya Miles, thanks for holding on, you may now speak to Andre Williams". She said to my relief. "Thank you". I managed to say quickly before I heard his voice. "Hello Arya, Ashley tells me you need to speak with me urgently". "What is the matter?" He asked in a calm manner. His voice was soothing alone to hear and I felt like he had his ears wide open to listen only to me. "Hi Andre, it is good to hear your voice". "Please, I really have no one else to turn to in this difficult situation". "I wouldn't ask if it wasn't so important but I don't know how to say it. I wish you can say yes to my request". I said as I paused. I haven't yet made my request known but I was waiting for his response. "I know, you are barely the type to make a request. Tell me, what is it?" He inquired receptively. It was reassuring for me to go on. "Can I stay at your place for the time being and please don't ask me the reason why." I requested. There was a long silence over the phone as Andre kept quiet. "Hello Andre, can you still hear me?" I was afraid he had ghosted on me through the phone. "Yes I can hear you". "Hmmm, thinking of what you said...well if you didn't kill anyone and not on the hide from the police I guess you can stay in my place for a while BUT..." He paused. "But what?" I asked anxiously. "...you would have to inform someone you trust about where to find you". He completed his statement. I let out a sigh of relief, glad it wasn't something difficult he was asking of me. "Sure, I will! Thank you Andre, you just made my day!" I was so excited as I hopped on the spot I was standing on several times. "You can stop by at my house before evening and you can watch me tell my parents I would be staying over at your place for now. I'll text you my home address right away!" I said excitedly. "Okay, I'll see you later in the afternoon". He confirmed to my delight. "And you too, see you later Andre!" I replied and then the call ended. It had gone better than I had expected and I couldn't wait to share the good news with my family. "Mom, dad, Henry! Guess what?!" I screamed as I dashed out of my room. As I came down the flight of stairs, they were already waiting for me. "What dear? How did it go?" Mom asked, unwilling to play in my game of guessing. "Just guess!" I urged again excitedly, as I stopped in front of them. "Andre agreed on the phone for you to stay over at his place". Henry answered. He didn't look surprised as that was what I had just gone upstairs to do. "Yes and at the first time of asking!" I was back to hopping on a spot. "Wait, were you planning on asking him more than once?" My kid brother asked, amused. I nodded my head rapidly without saying a word, still enjoying my victory hop, as my kid brother chuckled in the background. I could be shameless sometimes, determined not to take no for an answer, just like with Arthur. "Just like that, he accepted that you stay at his place with no conditions attached?" Dad asked, perplexed. He had a frown on his face and didn't find it funny. I guess he was uncomfortable with me staying in the house of a man he considered a stranger, he wanted to protect me. "No dad, he did set one little condition - that I tell someone I trust about where I would be staying and I agreed". "I told him to come over by the house this afternoon to watch me inform my parents, I will be staying over at his place for a while". I answered. I could see my dad's face relax and also my mom's, as they both liked the idea. It was an opportunity for them to meet the man I was going to be living with in his house starting from tonight.
