Chapter 4

Damien Pov He exhaled as his Beta Johnathon reported in, looking quite grim as he informed Damien of the troubles currently brewing outside of the pack. "There was another rogue attack today" Johnathon told him with a sigh "we took care of all of them but one. He's the leader apparently and for some reason he wants to speak to you." That made him raise his eyebrows. The only time they kept prisoners was when they had vital information or were to be tortured for leading the attacks. Very rarely did a prisoner want to speak to him, the Alpha of the Bloody River Pack. This was interesting he thought to himself. "Did they give a reason?" "No Alpha he refused. What would you have us do?" This made Damien stop and think. Part of him was intrigued as to why the rogue was asking to speak to him and he couldn't help but give a small smile which made even Johnathon shudder. There was no telling that Lucifer had taken over, not with those pitch black eyes at any rate. "Lead me to him" he ordered and Johnathon did so, keeping a wary eye on both Lucifer and the hallways, making sure that Amara was not nearby. The last thing he needed was Lucifer bolting towards the girl he was currently supposed to be staying away from. The dungeon was in the basement of the pack house and Johnathon shivered slightly in the damp and cold air as they approached the cells. Lucifer eyed the rogue currently sitting there with his head c****d. For a rogue, the man looked strong, arrogant even as he sneered at the men, his eyes full of contempt and disgust. "You wanted to speak to me?" Lucifer was deadly calm and Johnathon knew it wouldn't be long before he blew his top. The rogue stood up, his clothes dangling off his thin frame, a beard that was matted and greasy and his hair just the same, a dark brown that could be dirt or the original colour it was hard to tell. He couldn't be any older than Damien but circumstances clearly made him look much older than his years. "You think you'll break me in here" the rogue whispered and Lucifer's eyes flashed "but the truth is we'll never stop coming, not until we get what he wants. He won't stop either." Lucifer glanced at Johnathon who had gone deadly still and mind-linked him, Johnathon flinching at the anger in his Alpha's voice. I thought this was the leader. Is there a possibility this pathetic mutt is telling the truth growled Lucifer. There has been more rogue attacks of late, there is a chance that there is someone controlling these rogues into doing their bidding. But what motive could they possibly have? Their not sending enough to try and take over the pack and they haven't even been strong enough to kill either Johnathon answered hesitantly and Lucifer gave a low growl as he turned back to the rogue. "Who is he" he hissed and the rogue began to laugh, further infuriating him. "What do I get if I tell you?" he said slowly and Lucifer began to laugh this time, a chilling sound that echoed through the otherwise silent basement. It was a frightening sound and Johnathon fought the urge to back away. "How about a merciful death" Lucifer informed him lowly and the rogue shook his head, his eyes dancing at the man whose hands had now clenched into fists. "You think I'll tell you anything if I'm going to die anyway" he scoffed and Johnathon took a hesitant step forward and stared into the rogues eyes. "I suggest you tell him, you have no idea what he's capable of" Johnathon said quietly, Lucifer scowling at him. "I have more strength than to let you scare me into talking, do your worst" the rogue said and Johnathon sighed and cast his eyes to the heavens. The rogue apparently had a death wish and his death would be slow and painful now as Lucifer took his time. The rogue would talk in the end, they always did after Lucifer had had his fun. The rogue had no idea what was in store for him. "Open the cell" Lucifer boomed and the rogue backed away, his eyes darting around nervously as Johnathon dug the key to the cell out of his pocket and began to turn it in the lock. "By the way" the rogue cried out now before the door had opened "he sends his regards and warns you that he won't stop until he gets hold of Amara. His words not mine" he added and before they could stop him, the rogue reached into the pocket of his shorts and withdrew a tiny vial full of green liquid, tipping it into his mouth and swallowing it down quickly as they stared incredulous. It was a quick death but a painful one as white froth came out of the rogues mouth and his body flopped to the floor, convulsing in agony as the poison worked it's way through his system, his eyes flashing between black and normal until finally his body just lay there, completely still, the rogues eyes staring blankly at nothing. Johnathon drew in a shocked breath as he retrieved the vial and sniffed it's contents, Lucifer growling in rage at the threat to his mate, his hands itching to strangle someone, anyone, Johnathon sensing his anger and doing his best to stay out of the way. The vial smelt of a herb they knew well and Johnathon scrunched his nose up at it. "Wolfsbane" he told Lucifer reluctantly "a fatal amount that he ingested. What was he thinking?" "That it was better to die by his own hand then mine" growled Lucifer. He turned to Johnathon "I want someone guarding my mate every hour of the day" he hissed "I don't care how many men it takes. Only ones you trust as well, anything happens to her I'm holding you personally responsible." "Of course Alpha" Johnathon said hastily before seeing Damien's eyes turn back to normal, heaving a relieved sigh to see Lucifer had given back control to him. Damien however looked just as pissed as he stared down at the dead body of the rogue. "No one gets near Amara" Damien whispered looking right into Johnathon's eyes "I want this person, this threat to her eliminated as soon as possible. I want to know why they are after her in particular."
