THE OPENING OF GALICIAN RAILWAY Lviv railway is one of the oldest in Ukraine. Its history originates from the times, when western Ukrainian lands were a part of the Austrian Empire. The construction started in April 1856. It was then that the Polish and Galician statesman Leon Sapieha was granted the concession to build the first rail road in Galicia.
