CHAPTER 1: Baby Maker For Hire
Amanda “BABY MAKER FOR HIRE” I looked at the contract documents before me. I’ve been staring at it for almost an hour, not knowing what to do. I took a deep breath as I gaze at my reflection in the mirror. Can I really do this? Can I risk my life and take this opportunity? I read the contract once more. The compensation price for the whole term is a shining 10,000 dollars, and that's a lot of money! It also included monthly allowances and some basic necessities for the birthing surrogate. There are certain clauses under the contract, and honestly, I don't have any problem with that. The only thing that concerns me is that I'm still a virgin. I might look like a sl*t or wh*re as my neighbors describe me, but I'm actually not like that. It's just, I'm desperately needing this money, and I can't deny that the offer is remarkably tempting. I was brought back to reality when I heard footsteps coming my way. Looking in the mirror, I can see him walking towards me. His long legs match perfectly with his plump bottom and slim waist that will make anyone break their necks. At first glance, one cannot distinguish him as gay if not for his thick and husky voice “Honey! How was it? Did you make a decision?” Roxanne asked me as he went over and wrap his arms around my neck. I leaned in closer to him trying to find comfort. We worked together for three years, and so far, he is my best friend ever. He works here as a comedian, while I work here as one of the solo singer performers. We are so tied up to each other, and I feel like he’s my parent because he knows everything about me. Even in this desperate time, I always have his back. He was also the one who introduced to me this offer, as he was tasked to find a baby maker by his trusted client. “Roxy, I’m not sure. I only know how to sing and entertain people on the stage, but I don’t know if I will be able to manage to be a surrogate mom. And, with all the qualifications listed on the contract, I don’t think I will fit in.” I said, eyeing him in the mirror. Upon checking the requirements for a baby maker, it has to be someone who has graduated from college, has no medical records or any criminal records, and must be exceptionally beautiful. I don't know why would they require something like that. Like, hello? They will just borrow my womb, it's not like I will contribute to the genetic material of the baby! I know I didn't finish high school, but I can proudly say that I know some stuff about Science like this “Hun, what are you so anxious about? I think you’re perf for the role.” “I don’t think so. I didn’t even graduate from college. I’m not exceptionally beautiful. I’m afraid that if I’ll go there, they won’t select me and I'll be rejected. And what if they'll know my background? Will they even think of hiring me?" I asked without pausing. He chuckled, making his Adam’s apple that is hiding beneath his choker necklace move. He flipped his long blonde hair and sat beside me. “Stop that nonsense, sweetie. I've heard from my source that the client is a relative of the owner of this bar! We can assure that the owner won't judge you based on the fact that you are working here, because in the first place, he owns this establishment. Why would he build this if he will only judge the book by its cover? Another thing, the owner rarely checks the staff in this bar. He just monitors the income and the stocks. Other than that, no one sees even a shadow of him visiting this bar. But don't worry, sweetie. I won’t send you there unprepared. Check this out.” He fishes out some papers from the envelope that he’s holding and handed it over to me. “What are these?” I asked. I looked at the documents that he handed me. These are tampered documents like diplomas and some certification of training from some sort of University. “These will be your documents. Although they are fabricated, they looked almost authentic." “They're fabricated? Roxy! What if they will do a background check on me?" “Don’t worry, hun. Those couples are desperately searching for a surrogate mother as soon as possible. And my recruiter is a trusted agent, they won’t talk sh*t about my chosen candidate.” “But Roxy-“ “Princess,” He interrupted as he placed his hand over mine, squeezing it. “I know you badly needed this job. You might say that there are still lots of better candidates out there, those who have the experience, or those with genuine backgrounds, but this job is the easiest way to get the money that you needed. If only I have the money, I would surely lend you some, and I won’t risk sending you there. But dear, our bar is not that grand, we earn just a few pennies from it. I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you.” My heart softened as he mentioned my nickname, the nickname that I long forgotten. I shifted my gaze and looked away, biting my lower lip. Thinking about my mother, who saved me and raised me like her own, I would do anything to help her with her medical fees. After a few minutes of thinking, I answered him. “Okay. I’ll take it.” That brought a smile to his beautiful face. “Perfect! Now, get yourself ready as we will start the show. You need to let them see your beautiful face for the last time.” I nodded as he exited the dressing room. I took my Mac Ruby’s crew lipstick and rolled it up, and with the help of my pinky finger, scoop it and apply it on my lips. This is the last present that I have given myself, and after that, I didn’t buy anything for myself anymore. But tonight, I will enjoy my life as if it’s the last, and let fate decide my life. I picked up my masquerade mask and exited the dressing room. Since tonight’s theme is a masquerade ball, I wore my deep-plunging, thigh-high split long red dress given to me by Roxanne and went upstage. *****
