Chapter 2

JIANCI

"Uuhm..." A soft groan escaped my throat when I woke up the next morning. "My head hurts," I complained, still with my eyes closed.

When I opened my eyes, I frowned when I noticed that the room I was in wasn't familiar. I briefly recalled what happened last night. I went out of the private room where I was drinking with my friends. And then I looked for a bathroom to wash my face. Then, after I entered the bathroom, I bumped into a man and...

I covered my mouth with my palm while my eyes widened when I suddenly remembered what had happened last night. I kissed a man I didn't know. I didn't even see his face.

Worried, I peeked under the blanket at my body. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that my clothes were still intact. And aside from the headache due to the hangover, I didn't feel anything else in my body. That means nothing happened between me and that stranger.

I couldn't help but admire whoever that man was. Aside from the kiss, he didn't take advantage of me. And I was the one who initiated that kiss. Now I discovered that there are still gentlemen left in the world. If I were with another man last night, my virginity would surely be gone now.

I hurriedly got out of bed and fixed myself before I left the room. I couldn't help but wince when I discovered that I slept in one of the private rooms at Casa Bar. It wasn't a bathroom that I entered last night but a private room. I didn't see that stranger inside the room so I decided to just leave.

I was very grateful that Auntie Yna and Grandpa were already in their rooms when I entered the house. They would surely lecture me if they found out that I didn't sleep at home.

I flopped down on the bed as soon as I entered my room. I immediately remembered the man I kissed last night. He was my first kiss. It's a pity that I didn't get to see his face. But I think he was handsome and had a sturdy body. Until now, I still seem to feel the softness of his lips on my lips. I shook my head hard. Why am I even thinking about that stranger? We will surely never meet again. And even if we do meet, I won't recognize him if he doesn't introduce himself to me first.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to sleep. I woke up when I heard knocks on my room door. I got out of bed and opened the door. It was one of the maids in the house who was knocking.

"Miss Miller, Madam asked you to come down. Dinner is ready," the maid told me.

"Tell her that I'll be down later. I'll just fix myself for a bit," I replied to the maid before closing the door again.

I hurriedly took a bath and changed into a beautiful dress. I only requested a simple family dinner from Auntie Yna as a celebration for my birthday. I don't want to prepare a lavish party because I won't enjoy it anyway. I'm sure that Uncle Lux won't come.

Grandpa and Auntie didn't want to agree to just a simple family dinner as my birthday celebration. They wanted me to have a grand eighteenth birthday celebration. But I insisted that it was all I wanted, so they just gave in because it was my birthday anyway.

I felt a void in my chest when I entered the dining room and Uncle Lux's presence wasn't there. Even though I knew he wouldn't come, I still hoped that he would. I wanted to cry but I stopped myself because his family was in front of me.

"Happy birthday, Jianci. You're very beautiful in that dress," Auntie Yna greeted me with a smile along with her praise. "Here's my gift for you."

"Thank you, Auntie Yna." I shyly accepted her gift. Grandpa also greeted me and gave me a gift.

"Why do you look unhappy, Jianci? Are you sad because Uncle Lux didn't come?" Alexa, Uncle Lux's real niece, asked me with a teasing smile. Alexa doesn't like me. She said I stole the attention and love of the people who should only love her. She's the only female niece of the White family. She and her mother also live in White's house.

"Is it fun to see Jianci sad, Alexa?" Auntie Yna reprimanded Alexa. "We all know that they are close to each other. It's only natural for her to be sad because Lux is absent on her birthday."

"I'm sorry," Alexa apologized while bowing her head, but she secretly gave me a sharp look. If no one takes my side in my own family's house, in the White's house, Grandpa and Auntie Yna always take my side. That's why Alexa's disgust for me intensified even more.

"Please excuse my daughter, Dad. Yna. She's still young, that's why she thinks like that," Alexa's mother apologized. In front of Grandpa and Auntie, Alexa's mother is kind to me, but when the two turn their backs, her true personality comes out. Like her daughter, she also has great disgust for me.

Grandpa just sneered at what Alexa's mother said while Auntie Yna didn't comment. Maybe they know that Auntie Anna doesn't treat me well when they're not in front of me.

"Happy birthday, Jianci. I'm happy because you're finally an adult," Alfie, Alexa's older brother, said to me with a smile. Unlike his mother and sister, he treats me well. "My gift for you."

"Thank you," I said with a tight smile as I accepted his gift.

"Open it. I want to see if it suits you." I was about to put Alfie's gift on the side of my chair but I didn't continue when I heard what he said. I was forced to open it. It was a white gold necklace with a pink heart pendant. "Let me help you wear it."

Before I could stop Alfie, he had already stood up from his chair and approached me. He took the necklace and put it around my neck. Alfie had just put the necklace around my neck when Uncle Lux suddenly arrived. But he wasn't alone. He was with a beautiful woman holding his arm. I felt jealous but I couldn't show it. I was worried that those in front of me would notice my feelings.

"Are we late?" Uncle Lux asked. He looked at my face before his eyes went down to my neck. "Nice necklace. Do you like it?" he added.

"Do you like my gift, Jianci?" Alfie asked me with a hopeful smile.

"Y-Yes," I answered softly. It would be rude and ungrateful if I answered no to him.

"I'm happy that you like it," Alfie happily said before returning to his seat. When I glanced at Uncle Lux's face, I saw that his expression was dark. But when he saw that I was looking at him, his dark expression immediately disappeared. Or maybe I was just imagining that his face darkened when he heard my answer.

"You came just in time, Lux. We're just about to start eating," Grandpa said to Uncle Lux. "By the way, who is that beautiful woman with you? Is she your girlfriend?"

For a moment, it seemed like my heart stopped beating while waiting for Uncle Lux's answer. I secretly prayed that the woman with him wasn't his girlfriend.

"Yes. She's my girlfriend, Grandpa. She's the heir of the Lacsamana Group, Mira Lacsamana," Uncle Lux answered Grandpa with a smile. He seemed proud of his girlfriend.

I suddenly stood up from my chair when I heard Uncle Lux's answer. Those in front of me at the dining table looked at me in surprise.
