Chapter 8

Jianci

"I envy you, Mr. White. Your mood must always be good because you have such a beautiful assistant. Maybe you could give her to me," Jared said to Uncle Lux. He was clearly drunk so his mouth had no brakes when speaking. "Just work for me, Jianci. I'll even double your salary," he then turned to me.

I had also drunk a lot of alcohol because I often drank Uncle Lux's glasses. He said his stomach was a bit upset so he couldn't drink much. I don't want him to lose face in front of those businessmen so I offered to drink the wine on his behalf.

"Okay. Just convince my boss to let me go and I will work for you," I replied to him with a smile.

"Just agree to let Ms. Miller work for Jared's company, Mr. White. Wouldn't you like that? You'd even be their matchmaker. It's obvious Jared likes your assistant. They look perfect together," Kaitlyn's father agreed with Jared and smiled.

"Yes, Lux. It looks like they felt love at first sight for each other," Kaitlyn commented and smiled too. The two women facing us also just laughed at what she said. Everyone at the table was smiling and only Uncle Lux seemed to have a serious expression.

But I wasn't smiling because Kaitlyn was right. I didn't like Jared and I certainly wasn't in love at first sight with him. I was smiling because I couldn't stop myself from smiling even though there was nothing funny. Maybe it was due to my drunkenness.

"Stop drinking. You're already drunk." Uncle Lux stopped my hand, which was holding a glass just as I was about to bring it to my mouth.

"Don't stop her, Lux. I will take her home. And I will be responsible for her," Jared said. He grabbed Uncle Lux's hand, which was holding mine, and tried to pull it away. But Uncle Lux was stronger and not yet drunk so Jared didn't succeed in what he wanted.

"I'm sorry, gentlemen. We need to go. My assistant is very drunk. She needs to sleep." Without warning, Uncle Lux suddenly carried me in his arms and walked out of the reserved room.

"Do you have to carry her, Lux? She's just your assistant." We hadn't even left the room when Kaitlyn spoke to Uncle Lux.

Uncle Lux slightly turned around and answered Kaitlyn. But perhaps due to my drunkenness, I didn't hear what he said. I only saw his mouth moving but I heard no sound from his lips. Then he finally exited the room.

I felt like I was being cradled as I was in Uncle Lux's arms. I closed my eyes and rested my head on his chest. I heard Uncle Lux's heartbeat. It was loud and beating fast. I liked hearing his heartbeat so I pressed my ear closer to his chest. In this way, I was close to his heart, even if in reality, I was so far apart.

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep while Uncle Lux was carrying me. I was still half-asleep and half-awake when I suddenly smelled fried chicken. Or maybe I was still sleeping and just dreaming of it.

"I want fried chicken!" I shouted with my eyes still closed.

I gently flicked Jianci's nose when I heard what she said. She was dreaming. She always liked fried chicken since I knew her. But I limited her from eating it so it wouldn't harm her health.

"Okay. I will buy you fried chicken later," I told her with a smile, even though I wasn't sure if she heard or understood what I said.

Finally, Jianci was back. Although our meeting was accidental, I was still happy to see her again. It's been three years since the last time I saw her and I missed her like crazy.

I almost went mad looking for her but she vanished like a bubble. Even her best friend didn't know where she was. Or perhaps she just hid Jianci's whereabouts from me. Jianci left without a trace. She really didn't want me to find her. She's mad because I rejected her on the night of her eighteenth birthday. But I did it for her sake. She was still young and impulsive at that time. I was afraid that she might regret her decision in the morning.

For over a month, I slept in Jianci's room after she left home. I contented myself with hugging her pillow and blanket. Just so that my longing for her would be lessened, even just a little bit.

I established J&L Technology as her dowry when we got married. Yes. This time, I have no plan of letting her go. I will make her mine. But I need to restrain myself from showing her my feelings. I'm worried that she might not have feelings for me anymore. That she has moved on from me.

"Give me fried chicken," Jianci mumbled again. I was surprised when she suddenly grabbed my hand and bit my thumb.

"That's not fried chicken, Jianci. It's my finger." I tried to pull my finger from between her teeth. I breathed a sigh of relief when she finally let go of my finger after a few seconds. There was a deep mark from her teeth on my finger and it was even cut. I was thankful that her teeth didn't sever my finger.

"Miss Jianci probably thinks your fingers are chicken feet, Sir Lux," Geno commented. He shook his head and laughed as he drove the car. I shot him a sharp look so he suddenly stopped laughing and focused his attention on driving. But I knew he was just hiding his smile from me.

I noticed her head was slightly tilted as she sat. I worried that her neck might break, so I held her head and adjusted it. I swallowed hard as I stared at her red lips. The lips whose taste I had never forgotten since I tasted them when she was drunk the day before her eighteenth birthday.

Jianci was drunk that night and accidentally entered the room where I was. She bumped me and almost hit the floor if only I hadn't managed to catch her. She kissed me that night. And also that night was the time that I indulged myself. My self-restraint failed when she kissed me on the lips. And if she hadn't fallen asleep, something might have happened between us that night.

I doubt Jianci knows that I was the man she kissed that night and slept next to in bed all night. Before she woke up, I immediately left the room so she wouldn't know I was that man.

"Uhmm." Jianci groaned slightly. I thought she was waking up. I was about to let go of her head but she suddenly wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled my head down. My eyes widened when our lips suddenly met. She even sucked on my lips as if sipping juice. "So sweet. It tastes like strawberries."

"J-Jianci, l-let me go." I tried to remove her hands from my neck but she wouldn't let go of me. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to control my feelings again. Not now that she was drunk again. He habit of kissing a man when she was drunk is not good. What if I were not the person next to him, instead another man?

"I want to taste it again." Jianci smiled and pressed her lips to mine again, sucking once more. But it was only for seconds because she immediately released my lips. She even licked her lips as if savoring the sweetness of my lips. I almost lost my self-control when I saw her licking her lips. "I still want it," she mumbled again.

When she pulled my head again and our lips met, that's when my self-control totally broke. I hugged her tightly and passionately kissed her lips. I will take the consequences for my action tomorrow.
