Helina stared up at the Council as she finished her statements about Kurt. They hadn't reacted to anything she said even when Kurt's outbursts were many. She didn't know what was next, so she stood there.
Finally, one of them said, “Thank you, Helina. You've said a lot and we appreciate you coming today."
She nodded then left the town hall with Chase holding her hand. She whispered to him, “I'm glad you were here."
“You can't get rid of me."
She laughed and the stress of the hearing was gone. Chase could do that. She squeezed his hand. “Thanks."
He stopped and pulled her closer. “Would it be okay if we explore the woods? Show me where you grew up."
“Let me let Harlan know what we're doing."
“I already asked his permission."
She studied him. He was surprising her all the time. “That
