Amara
“We need to leave here. I have already called for help,” Eddie told me.
“How many more things do I need to know, Eddie?” I'm genuinely clueless. I’ve known Eddie since I was a kid, but it seems that he’s hiding a lot more that I should know.
“A lot of things, Amara. But there’s no time for explaining.” We heard sounds echoing from afar—many more threats are heading our direction.
“What about our research? Is any of this even real?”
“Partly. The research is just a diversion. Our true mission here is to start the prophecy.”
“What!?”
“My Luna! Where are you?” It’s Alpha Gonzalo calling me from inside the tent. He’s finally awake—it’s a dangerous time.
“Oh, Moon Goddess!” Eddie was freaking out. He added, “this is bad. I have to get you both safely out of here.”
Gonzalo comes out of the tent. He ignores the freezing cold—still he's bearing it all out naked. He became threatened by Eddie’s presence, he ran towards us.
“Get away from my Luna, you evil sorcerer!” The light of the moon embraced him again—he transformed into his gray wolf form.
I screamed, “Alpha Gonzalo! No! He’s not an enemy!”
Before he reaches Eddie, Eddie lifted one of his arms and revealed the back of his hand—it has a silver crescent insignia that glowed brightly while being struck by the moonlight.
Gonzalo stopped; his eyes dilated. He realized something.
“This is the symbol of the Moon Goddess. It was given to us the day we swore to protect humanity. This symbol also allowed us to shift our appearance; it allowed to blend with humans. I’m not an enemy, Alpha Gonzalo. I’m Amara’s protector.” He looked at me, “I have been watching her and protecting her from harm for as long as she can remember,” So endearingly he locked eyes with me, he subtly smiled, “she’s the daughter I never had.”
For a brief moment, despite the trouble waiting for us, Eddie’s words gave me relief. Gonzalo took calm steps to reach Eddie. He allowed him to caress his forehead—he recognized him as an ally.
Serious note, Eddie continued, “we’re supposed to be rescued here, but there’s not enough time.”
Eddie held one of my hands and Gonzalo’s forehead, he let out another set of unusual language, “Simádi Taxidíou.” A glowing mark appeared on my palm and Gonzalo’s forehead. “That’s a temporary locator mark, it will disappear once the Resistance finds the two of you.”
“What do you mean? Just us?”
“The Underworld Legion here in the North is coming close. I have to protect both of you, especially you, Amara.”
“Why can’t you come with us? What are you trying to say!?”
He embraced me, “thank you for giving me a purpose, my daughter.”
“Stop! Eddie! Maybe there’s some other way!”
“The chance of both of you surviving is greater without me. I’m the only one capable of at least sparing you enough time.”
We suddenly heard an agitated scream. It was from the hideous creature that attacked us earlier. I began to see the army of the cloaked entities quickly charging towards us.
“There’s no other way! I’m sorry for this, Amara. I love you, and I’m very proud of you.” He placed his thumb on my forehead and mouthed, “Ýpnos.” I felt my nerves going against me, Eddie’s smiling face went blurry with every second that passed.
I lost consciousness.
The last thing I remember of him is his gentle and loving face.
I didn't even get to say my goodbyes.
