It wasn't by mistake

"Congratulations ma'am, the results came out positive", the doctor said looking at me. I shivered. Fear wrapped me up and i was freezing. "You mean she is pregnant?", ms zoe asked boldly. She was obviously seeking assurance. "She is 3 months pregnant to be exact", the doctor said smiling at me sheepishly. I looked at ms zoe and then at the doctor. I faked a smile, i didn't know what to do or say. "Thank you sir, we should be on our way now", she said and shaked good bye to the doctor. We walked towards the car parking lot. Ms zoe's mood n face changed instantly. "Ma'am, actually......." "DON'T!, I'm trying so hard to be nice to you right now", ms zoe said harshly. "Let's do the talking when we get home" We got into her car and we started off for home. She drove home silently. By the way, ms zoe is never silent, she is always talking about everything; her day, her workmates, her favorite crush, her work worst enemy. We got home, she banged ther car door. I got out calmly. We got into the the house. Michael and Alexis were on the living room watching football. My zoe threw herself on the sofa "Is everything okay, mom?" "Shut up, mike!" Said ms Zoe angrily. "Both of you go to your room, now!" "Mum, we are watching football" Mike said "Mike, Alex....to your room right now!" Ms Zoe said in a very serious tone Mike and Alex looked at me. I faced down ignoring them both. "Mom, we are going nowhere. Tell is what happened or go discuss whatever you wanna discuss somewhere else" alex said increasing the volume. Ms Zoe grabbed the remote and dropped the volume. "Uhm, Kira here is pregnant, the doctor confirmed it" She explained. "We are yet to find out who the father is, so that she can be going to stay with the father of her baby" she added. I had chills. So ms Zoe will drive me out of the house? Where will i go? And what will happen when she finds out the real father of my unborn child? These questions raced in my mind, i started sweating heavily as if i just finished running a marathon. "Mom, what does it matter who the father is? She can continue working here if she wants to. I mean you can't forcefully make her leave if she doesn't want" Alex said "This is the exact reason I said you guys should go to your room" Ms zoe said calmy. "You are only 21 and you can't get it. A pregnant is not just a small thing" she explained "Who is father?, Kira, let's not waste time, tell me who the father is. At least i can talk to him and let him know that you're pregnant and you can't continue working here, he has to come get you" she explained I looked at mike speechlessly and my eyes were wet. I was shaking. Hot tears dropped down my cheeks. "Kira, you're not a child anymore, look you are pregnant and you will be a mother soon, just speak up" ms zoe shouted "Mum, stop it! She is crying already. Don't you know stress is bad for pregnant women? Its gonna affect her baby" Mike said "Stay out of this" ms Zoe shouted "Mom, come on...let her be. Its her choice either she wants to stay here or leave" alex said. Ms. Zoe received a call from her office and she left instantly. Mike dragged me to her room. "I told you a hundred times but you're just selfish and stubborn and now what will i do? Where will i go?" I said sobbing continuously. "Hey calm down, we will sort this out together" mike said. " i will make my mom understand" he assured me. "You don't get it, Mike. We are WORLDS APART" i cried uncontrollably "I know ms. Zoe, i promise i will make her under and she will accept you" Soon Ms. zoe got back. I prepared dinner. I set the dinning table and I served them. After dinner, Ms. zoe invited me to the sitting room. Mike and alex were present. "Hmmmm" Ms. zoe cleared her throat. My heart pounded. "Y'all get this straight, am not pressurizing anyone to do anything. All i want to know is who the father of the child kira is carrying is. I'm a mother and kira has been like a daughter to me since she started working here. So i wanna know the father n talk to him" Ms. zoe explained calmly. "Ma'am.......the father...." "I don't want to hear anymore nonsense and stupid excuses, so lets just be straightforward" ms zoe interupted me "Yes ma'am.......he...... he is......" i stammered "I am the father, mom" Mike said boldly. "Mike, this is no time for your foolish jokes, please behave" ms zoe gave mike an owl look. "Now back to you, who is the father?" She looked at me "I'm not joking mom, i am the father. I have been having an affair with kira for 8 months now and I'm the father" Mike said, now with fear. Ms. zoe looked at me and i faced down sobbing. " will you just stop it kira?, you trapped my son into all this and now these crocodile tears?" Ms zoe shouted. We were all quiet. "Alex, did you know about this?" Ms zoe looked at alex. "Alex, i told you to be reporting happening when am not here, now you see this? This is what i feared" she shouted. "Mom, i love kira and she love me too. We will raise this child together" Mike said "Says a 20 year old dependent man. Funny. Alex, kira!! To your rooms now" ms zoe said Alex and I left. "Mike baby, you can do better than this. What is this? A maid? For real? Pathetic" ms zoe told mike. "Mom, love knows no color, class or status. Me and kira love each other" mike responded respectfully "Love? Wow, great!!! Can you even hear yourself right now?" Ms zoe said harshly. "Mom......." ms zoe interrupted "Don't mom me! Now you listen........she can't keep that pregnancy, and she can't work here. Tomorrow i will give her money to undergo abortion and go wherever she can where you guys can't be in touch" ms zoe explained. "But mom......" mike couldn't finish his sentence. "Also how sure are you that this child is yours?" Ms zoe asked. "I took her virginity. She didn't know a man before me and am probably the only man she's been sleeping with", mike responded "Silly of you to think that. Girls like her always trap rich men like you for their men. Such girls are cheap and they can sleep with everyone for money. What if she also trapped the gate man the same way she trapped you? Ever thought about that?" Ms zoe said. I could hear her voice in my room and these words pricked my heart badly. I broke down. "Mom, that's mean. We all know kira can't do that" mike said "Whatever, she won't keep that baby at any cost" ms zoe said. She left to her room "But mom!!!! Mom!! That child is mine! Mom! You can't be this selfish!" Mike screamed Then Mike came to my room. "What do you want?" I asked angrily. "I always told you, i am only a maid in this house" i cried "Kira, look at me" Micheal tried to calm me down "Look, I love you and i want this baby. I will make you sure we keep this baby and you will be safe" mike said patting me "I just wanna go away from here. Ms. Zoe won't lemme breathe peacefully" i said looking straight into Mike's eyes. "No, you will be safe here. Ms. zoe just need time. She will digest this eventually and she will accept you together with the baby" mike said seriously "No way, she thought i trapped you for your money. There's no way she is gonna accept me or this baby, to her i am using this pregnancy to get a share of your property......." Ms. Zoe barged in. "........you're right about that, my son is just too blind to see your intentions" Ms. zoe said harshly "But mom......." "To your room now!" Ms. zoe shouted at Michael. Michael left to his room "And you! I'm not talking to you as your boss, rather as a mother. Please spare my son, he is only a child who doesnt even know what he is doing, he is 20 and you're only 18, too young to be parents. That's why the day after tomorrow, you're leaving this house forever. Not just this house, this country too, i will give you a blank cheque, fill any amount you want and get that thing terminated.....please i am begging you" ms zoe said humbly with her hands folded. I sat there helplessly while sobbing "Please, just leave us alone" ms zoe said at last and left. I locked my door and cried silently. ^^^^8 YEARS LATER^^^^^ As i was walking down the street of mulberry, i bumped into a friend Ben. Ben was the son of Ms zoe's neighbor. "Hey, kira! Long time.....when did you get here?" He asked in a cheerful way "Uhm, since i left that place. I have been here ever since" i said " so what are you doing here?, school? Work? Business or anything?" He asked " its a long story" i said trying to end the conversation. "Well, give me your tens, we gotta link up some other time. There's so much to discuss " he said. "I thought so" We exchanged contacts and i proceeded with my journey. After a week, Ben visited my place. That's when he met Andrea. "She is so adorable" he said. "Thanks" "She your niece?" He asked "Uhm no, my daughter" i said "Oh wow!, are you married?" He asked. "Anyways that's obvious" I looekd at him silently. "Does that mean Ms zoe never told them anything about my pregnancy?" I wondered. Anyway why would they tell them, they considered me a parasite feeding on their wealth. "Why did you left Ms. Zoe's place? You didn't even say goodbye" he said sadly. "I'm sorry but it all happened so fast" i said "Momma, can i go at Angel's place? Please i will be back soon" Andrea pleaded. "Yeah sure" Andrea left. "I got pregnant for Michael and Ms zoe made me leave. That's when i found myself here" i explained briefly. "You wanna tell me Andrea is Michael's child?" He asked "Of course" "And talking about Micheal, he is also here. He bought an apartment in St Calenzo hills. I met him last month with his fiancee" he explained "He got a fiancee? Oh wow" i said trying not to get jealous "Yeah" he nodded. "He said they are planning to get married once his fiance settles" he explained "Great, and what about you? Why are you here?" I asked changing the topic "Uhm, just got transferred like 2 months ago. I will be here for 3 years" he said "Wow! That's great" i said "So what you up to? You got a beautiful big house, a car.....what are you doing?"he asked "My life turned when i just got here. I met this girl in the streets who offered me a job in her restaurant. Then she asked if i was interested to do designing and tailoring courses as part time classes. I got enrolled and after 2 years i graduated and opened my own tailoring shop, later on i opened a company which am managing now" i explained "Wow! Impressive! So....that means you and Mike doesn't contact each other?" He asked "No! I'm sure he doesn't even know am here" I said We talked lots of stuffs till late when he left to his house. *********** This other day, i was having a headache while in office and I went outside to get some fresh air. My secretary called me saying there's a client eho wanna meet me. I told her to direct him to my office and i will be there soon. I went to my office. "Uhm, welcome sir.....sorry for making you wait" i said closing the door. He turned to me, we had an eye contact to my surprise it was Micheal and a friend of his. "You?! What the f**k?!, bro let's leave this place!" Mike said angrily and stood up. "What's up men?" His friend asked "This is the girl i told you about" he said to his friend and he turned to me, "had i known you're the one in charge here, i wouldn't come" "Mr. Michael, this is my workplace. We don't mix personal life and business here" i said politely "Exactly, you're always thinking about business and money. You traded our love for the same. I can't believe you're that much selfish" he said hitting the table. Tears dropped down my cheeks. "These no longer works on me. My mom was always right about you. Now am a grown up, these tears can't manipulate me" he said That stabbed my heart and i broke down but i tried to be strong. "Will you just leave my office right now! You can't come here and insult me like that. You're gonna regret what you you're doing when you get to know the truth" i said seriously "I know the whole truth, and of course am leaving this place. How i wish i could even leave this country, pathetic i can't help it" he said and left. "I'm sorry about his behavior, i will have to go" his friend said and left too. The next day, i was making orders onlime when my door bell rang. "Yes, come in" i said The door opened and it was Michael. "What do you want here? As if what you said yesterday wasn't enough, what else do you wanna say?" My mood changed. "Leave my office alone and i don't wanna see you anywhere near this building" i said harshly. "Kira please, I'm sorry about yesterday. I suggest we just do business without involving our personal lives" he said. "No thank you, i don't wanna do business with you" i said in a very serious tone "Please, just do me this favor, im even ready to pay you double the amount. Our wedding is in 2 weeks and we couldn't find another designer, please" he begged. "Right! Only business, i wanna meet you and your would be wifey next week Thursday @11" i ordered.
