“Okay.”
I paused, shocked that he would agree to my request.
“Okay?”
He nodded. “I told you I'll do anything to fix this. If this is what you want then I'll oblige, even if it hurts me deeply to let you go.”
“You mean I'm…I'm free to go?”
“I'll end the contract myself so you don't have to pay any fees. You can leave whenever you want, but I only have one request.”
I swallowed. “What request?”
“That you let me get you a place and assign a few people to guard you.”
“What's the difference? I'm not really free from you then.”
“The difference is that these people will only work for you and you don't need to answer to me. I'm doing this because I don't trust Pablo to leave you alone. I won't be around you unless you say otherwise.”
I looked at him, trying to find the lie, the
