He looked at me, amused. Not surprised or annoyed. Amused. One brow lifted slightly as he leaned back in his chair, studying me like I had just done something mildly entertaining. “You’re in no position to negotiate,” he said calmly. “Then don’t agree,” I replied just as evenly. That seemed to interest him more than anything else I had said tonight. His gaze sharpened, the amusement deepening into something more attentive. “Go on.” I inhaled slowly, steadying myself.
