The Message That Changed My Life"Some love stories begin with a smile... ours began with a warning."
The rain had been falling over New York City for hours. Cold wind rushed through the empty streets as the clock slowly approached 11:11 PM. Ethan Carter stood by the window of his small apartment, holding a cup of black coffee. At twenty-four, life had already taught him one painful lesson— Never believe in forever. Two years ago, he had buried his mother. One year ago, the girl he loved walked away without saying goodbye. Since then, Ethan had stopped believing in love. For him, every sunrise was just another day to survive. His phone suddenly vibrated. Unknown Number. He frowned. Nobody usually texted him this late. He unlocked the screen. The message read— "If you're reading this... don't fall in love with me." Ethan laughed quietly. "Someone has a strange sense of humor." He tossed the phone onto the couch and walked toward the kitchen. But before he could pour another cup of coffee... Buzz... Another message arrived. "I'm standing outside your window." His smile disappeared. Slowly... Very slowly... He turned his head toward the glass. His heartbeat froze. Across the silent street... Under the yellow streetlight... A girl stood completely still. She wore a white hoodie. Long black hair danced with the wind. In her hands was a small piece of paper. She lifted it. Written in black ink were only five words. "You already know me." Ethan rushed to the window. The moment he blinked— She was gone. No footsteps. No sound. Nothing. Only the rain. His breathing became heavy. "What the hell..." He grabbed his jacket and ran downstairs. The street was empty. He searched every corner. Every alley. Every parked car. No one. It was as if she had never existed. The next morning... Ethan convinced himself it had been a prank. Or maybe exhaustion. After all, he hadn't slept properly in weeks. He reached Westbrook University and walked into his psychology class. The professor hadn't arrived yet. Students chatted loudly. Then... The classroom became silent. A girl walked inside. White hoodie. Black hair. The same girl. She calmly sat beside Ethan. She looked at him. Smiled softly. Then whispered... "So..." "You finally found me." Ethan almost dropped his notebook. "You..." "Who are you?" She tilted her head. "I was wondering how long it would take." "You were outside my apartment." "I know." "How?" She ignored the question. Instead she asked— "Still drinking black coffee every night?" Ethan's eyes widened. Only one person knew that habit. His mother. Nobody else. He forced a laugh. "You've been stalking me?" She smiled again. "No." "I've been waiting for you." Throughout the lecture... She answered every question perfectly. The professor seemed impressed. But Ethan couldn't focus. Every few minutes... She caught him staring. Every time... She smiled. When class ended... She disappeared before he could stop her. He searched the entire campus. Nothing. It was like chasing smoke. Three days passed. No messages. No sign of her. Ethan finally began believing everything was just coincidence. Until... Saturday evening. His phone rang. Unknown Number. He answered immediately. Silence. Only soft breathing. Then... A girl's voice. "Turn around." He did. She stood behind him. Holding two cups of coffee. One black. One cappuccino. "I remembered." She handed him the black coffee. He stared. "You..." "How do you know what I drink?" She smiled. "I know much more than that." They walked together through Central Park. The autumn leaves covered the ground. For the first time in months... Ethan laughed. Emma had a strange way of making ordinary conversations feel magical. She teased him. Made fun of his serious face. Called him "Mr. Broken Heart." He rolled his eyes. "You don't even know me." Emma looked at him quietly. "I know enough." After a long silence... She suddenly asked— "If someone knew your entire future..." "Would you want to hear it?" Ethan shrugged. "I don't believe in destiny." Emma stopped walking. She looked directly into his eyes. Her smile disappeared. "You should." She reached into her pocket. Pulled out a folded photograph. It showed Ethan... Standing beside a hospital bed. Crying. The date printed below the picture... Was exactly one month from today. Ethan felt cold. "Where did you get this?" Emma didn't answer. Instead she whispered— "You have thirty days." "Thirty days for what?" She looked away. "To change everything." Before Ethan could ask another question... Emma's phone rang. She looked at the screen. Fear appeared on her face for the first time. She quickly stepped back. "I have to go." "Wait!" "Emma!" She smiled sadly. "Please..." "Don't fall in love with me." She turned... And disappeared into the crowd. That night... Ethan couldn't sleep. Everything felt impossible. The messages. The photograph. The girl who somehow knew his secrets. At exactly... 11:11 PM His phone vibrated again. Another unknown message. This time... There was only one photo. It was Emma. Standing inside a cemetery. Behind her... Was Ethan's grave. And beneath the picture... Only one sentence. "If you save her... you will die."
