Hours must have passed. The sky outside was starless; only man-made lights broke up the darkness. The bathroom was dark too because I lacked the energy to get up and turn on the light. I lay on the towel cot with my back to the room and an arm over my head, crying and not caring about the volume. I deserved to be heard and to be ashamed by the knowledge. The door opened, letting light from the hall spill in. I didn’t move. After a minute, the light flicked on. “Kay? You’ve been really quiet. Is everything alright?” Jake asked me. “D-don’t look at me…” I whispered around my sobs. “Why not? Are you hurt?” he countered with concern.
