I was getting used to seeing Jake’s face first thing in the morning. He seemed naturally predisposed to waking up before me, but he just laid there and watched me sleep until I woke up, too. But the next morning I woke up alone. The sun was shining and a playful breeze stirred the curtains on his bedroom window.
