Chapter 4: Daniel F*****g Reese

1095 Words
The footsteps get closer. I pray for it to pass by so I'll get back to the lounge in time for my meeting with Mr Reese. But they don't pass, someone is behind the door–now trying to open it. I hurriedly try to slip into a bathroom stall, but I miss my step and fall. Luck is really not on my side today. “Are you okay?” A familiar voice asks, full of concern. “Uhm yes –yes, thank you, you can leave now," I mumble with my hands covering my face. “Did you hurt your face? I could get the first aid kit.” “I'm fine!” I snap, cutting him off. “Why is a man in the women's restroom though?” I add, annoyed. He hesitates before answering. “ This is the male's restroom.” Fuck! Now I have to face him, or I could just lie down here and die of embarrassment. But I can't just let my dreams die because of this jerk. I slowly push myself to my feet, adjusting my dress. I walk towards the exit without looking back, praying he doesn't recognize me. I finally get my fingers on the door handle. I breathe a sigh of relief before opening. But it doesn't budge. I try again. It's still locked. “Uhm–can you help me with this?” I ask, worry laced in my voice, my head still turned away from him. “This happens a lot, they told me they were going to get it fixed.” I hear his footsteps as he walks towards the door, before trying to force it open. “I'll call someone to get it fixed now.” He pulls out his phone and makes a call. I retreat to the other side of the room to stay clear of him. “You dropped this.” He called, holding my house key up. Before I could tell him to just hand it to me, my key was up in the air heading fast towards me. My instinct kicks in. My hands shoot up to catch it and miraculously I do, But not before stumbling into the light and giving him a perfect unobstructed view of my face. His eyes hit me next. I look up only to realize my cover has been blown. I was staring into his blue eyes like the night we met. Let Zeus take me now. “I knew something about you screamed familiar.” He says with that same smug smirk forming on his lips. “I have a meeting now, and I need to leave.” I want to hit him with my purse so badly. “We both do, but unless one of us gets superpowers in the next 5 minutes, we're stuck,” he said, still smirking. I roll my eyes, then reach into my purse, bringing my phone out. “Are you mad at me or something?” He asks. I continue scrolling through i********: reels like I didn't hear him speak. A few seconds later the door slams open. The woman from earlier walks in quickly, “ I'm so sorry Mr. Reese, I told them to get this door fixed earlier. I don't know why it's not fixed. I'll fire them all, sir.” Mr Reese? Did I just hear her call the hoodie guy Mr Reese? As in Daniel Reese. I gasp loudly, getting the attention of both Daniel and the woman. “I see you've met Ms. Shelly, sir, she's the songwriter your team scheduled for today.” She says, looking down at me clearly irritated. Of course, of all the men I could have slept with. It had to be Daniel f*****g Reese. ******** DANIEL’S POV I hadn't expected her to look at me like I was the villain in an Avengers movie, but there it was, that fire. It was nostalgic. It was the same way my ex-girlfriend looked at me before walking out on me that day. That same night, I found myself stumbling into the club next door, just to stop thinking about her. I threw on a hoodie and dark shades to avoid being recognized by anyone. I ordered the most expensive wine and drowned myself in it, shutting out the whole world. I tried to forget her, tried to shut out the noise in my head with a louder one, but nothing worked. I had given up trying until– “You look like you hate it here more than I do.” She slurred. I hadn't expected anyone to walk up to me. The first thing I noticed that night was her eyes. They looked like she had cried a lot, but they were still a beautiful set of hazel. She started talking to me and I found myself wanting to talk to her more. I wanted to take her away from the noise just so I could focus on her. She intrigued me. I led her to the rooftop, which was the same rooftop where my ex and I had our first date. It used to feel special. So why was I taking just a random stranger there? I asked myself nonstop till we reached there. But then she looked at the city lights and smiled and damn, she looked really cute. “Holocene by Bon Iver” I answered when she asked what song I would drown the world in if I could. “The noise disappears all around me when it's on. It's like I'm all alone in my own world but in a good way,” I add. I didn't mean to say that last part out loud, but I just kept going. Before I could stop myself, she was already talking and her words shocked me. She didn't just hear music, she understood it, she felt it. It was like an electric wave had brought me back to reality. It was like a wire had been reconnected. It was like she was the answer I had been looking for all along. And she was just standing right in front of me, within hand's reach. I looked at her again, then I noticed her hands were wrapped around herself, making her boobs perk out more in that corset. I wanted to give her my hoodie. But I couldn't risk the paparazzi spinning stories. I hesitated before asking her to come to the hotel with me. And surprisingly, she wanted to stay out of the club as much as I did.
