Is the preservation of the Austrian Empire to be our goal? Our goal is our own preservation. First we must take care of ourselves, and then we can think of others. Up until now, Austria has stood firm, and we were in decay. What would the world say of us, were we to be more concerned with Austria’s preservation than our own? The fall of Austria will not bring us down with her. There are great difficulties in this regard. The government of Austria is found on German territory, and therefore is German. We must compel it to transfer itself onto Slavic territory. The Slavic lands are not yet united; they are not even independent to such degree that they might undertake an effective, concerted enterprise.
